The Hill reports, âD.C. Fire and EMS said that units responded just before 1 p.m. and discovered a man with burn injuries in front of the embassy. He was transported to an area hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries.
According to reporter Alan Henney, the man was alive â but unconscious.

Self-immolation is commonly used as an act of extreme protest and has happened multiple times in DC.
On Earth Day in 2022, April 22, climate activist Wynn Alan Bruce set himself on fire outside the Supreme Court Building. He died from his injuries.
In 2017, an anti-Trump protester lit himself on fire outside what was then Trump Hotel. He was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life threatening burns.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra
Jim Jordan (R-OH), Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, issued a subpoena for Health and Human Services  (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra on Tuesday requesting case files on unaccompanied child migrants charged with crimes in the U.S. after being released by HHS.
The letter accuses Becerra of concealing the gang affiliations of illegal aliens who are minors and are then caught committing serious crimes like theft, brutal assault, and murder.
According to a press release, since June 2023, the Committee has requested several HHS case files for criminal aliens âbut has been stonewalled by HHS, which has baselessly withheld the case files for months.â
âAs an extraordinary accommodation to HHS, the Committee agreed to review the case file materials in camera; however, once Committee staff began to review the documents, it became clear that HHS had applied pervasive redactions to the documentsâwithout notice to the Committee. Across multiple case files, HHS redacted information about whether specific UACs had âidentifying scars, marks, or tattoosââinformation that can be indicative of gang affiliation. Worse, HHS went so far as to redact information explicitly requested by the Committee, including information shared with HHS by other agencies and immigration case history information.â
âBy unilaterally redacting the case files, HHS rendered the requested materials provided for in camera review all but useless, frustrating and impeding the Committeeâs investigation into HHSâ release of criminal aliens into the U.S.â
In the letter to Secretary Becerra, Rep. Jordan concludes,
HHSâs failure to provide the requested case file materials hinders the Committeeâs ability to fulfill its constitutional oversight obligations and is unacceptable. The Supreme Court has recognized that Congress has a âbroad and indispensableâ power to conduct oversight, which âencompasses inquiries into the administration of existing laws, studies of proposed laws, and surveys in our social, economic or political system for the purpose of enabling Congress to remedy them.â26 Pursuant to the Rules of the House of Representatives, the Committee has jurisdiction to conduct oversight of matters concerning federal immigration law to inform potential legislative reforms. These potential legislative reforms could include reforming HHS ORRâs placement process, including to ensure criminal aliens are held in secure placements, rather than being released to a sponsor, or to enhance the level of scrutiny ORR applies in vetting UACs and potential sponsors before UACs are released in the care of a sponsor.
Accordingly, and considering your disregard of our earlier voluntary requests and rejection of the extraordinary accommodation as offered by the Committee, please find attached a subpoena for the requested documents and information.

As the once beautiful city of San Francisco continues to devolve into chaos, one store has raised eyebrows for the extremes it is going to in order to stem the tide of retail theft it is suffering.
Retail theft has become an absolute plague in stores in most big, Democrat-run cities, and San Francisco has not been not spared the scourge that is closing stores all across the nation.
The problem has forced many businesses to simply give up and close down. Others have tried putting much of their wares under lock and key to prevent people from just grabbing armfuls of items and walking out.
But one business is taking a whole new approach, according to KRON-TV.
Fredericksenâs Hardware and Paint in the Cow Hollow neighborhood has lighted on a novel idea.
âItâs pretty bad,â store manager Sam Black told the station. âI mean, the dollar amounts are pretty significant, and with the tools and now weâre getting snatch-and-grabs when they take whole displays, so itâs getting kind of dangerous for the employees and the customers.â
The hardware store has not only launched a new way to stop the ârampant shopliftingâ owners are suffering, but is also offering a new shopping experience.
During designated hours, the store is offering a one-on-one shopping experience. For two hours each morning and two more each evening, customers will be escorted through the store guided by an employee.
âWe just want to make it uncomfortable for the thieves so they go somewhere else,â Black said.
As customers are being escorted, others will be left standing near a table being used to block the exits so that thieves canât freely roam the store.
Black said that in all the years he has been in business, the retail theft he is now experiencing is the worst he has ever seen, he told the station.
The store has also taken to locking up many products to prevent theft.
âYeah, people arenât happy,â Black said of customer reaction to the product lockdowns. âThe regulars canât believe it like we canât believe it, but theyâve been really understanding.â
Black also has criticism for the city over this whole situation, and added that they arenât getting any help at all from the police or city officials.
The new one-on-one shopping plan has been going on for three weeks. Black says he will evaluate its success at the end of the month.
Black added that he is not sure how long he will maintain this program, but he has to do something.
San Francisco supervisor Catherine Stefani blasted the situation.
âThis situation is tragic and embarrassing for our city, and itâs all the more reason to get serious about solving our police staffing crisis,â Stefani said in a statement.
âWe need more police on our streets, and we need them now. Thatâs why Iâll hold a series of hearings in March to push our city agencies to fill the hundreds of vacancies at the Police Department as soon as possible â to stop the bleeding, reverse the damage, and finally protect our residents and small businesses,â she said.
Stefani, though she is right to want to empower the police after years of the defund the police attacks on law enforcement, is missing the bigger problem. The root of the problem is the George Soros-bought prosecutors who wonât put criminals in jail.
Crooks know that they are being given carte blanche to rob stores blind and that nothing at all will be done to them. So, why not just rob with impunity? Until this dereliction of duty perpetrated by the prosecutors is reversed, these constant waves of theft will not recede.

Newsom has long been rumored to be running a shadow campaign, intending to step in and replace Biden at the last moment.
âThe special counsel report that came out last week against it for President Biden. It had, quote, he is a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory. What do you think of this?â the reporter began.
The reporter continued, âAnd then also for the 2024 election⊠Does 81-year-old President Biden have a better chance of beating Donald Trump than you? And do you disagree with 86% of Americans who think heâs too old to run?â
The question prompted a round of giggles from Newsom and members of his administration.
âWell, I appreciate, the question in the framing, but, I also appreciate my president and, and his performance,â Newsom began.
âIâm a little old fashioned. I care about results,â the governor said. âI care about governing. I care about people that deliver. And I care about peopleâs record and, and what President Biden has accomplished in just three years is the most significant list of accomplishments in my lifetime.â
Newsom continued, âAnd I donât say that lightly. I say that knowingly, because weâre quite literally here as a beneficiary of those accomplishments. The Homekey motto was inspired by the partnerships that we formed with this administration. The remarkable investments in the infrastructure bill, the remarkable Investments, CHIPS and Science Act, the remarkable and unprecedented investments across a spectrum including Safer Communities Act and new investments in mental health and gun safety.â
The heaps of praise did not stop there.
âThe work heâs done to eliminate that, for so many, that are burdened with student loans, I can go on and on. The work heâs done in terms of his alliance management. NATO is stronger and itâs larger than itâs been. Russiaâs weaker than theyâve ever been,â Newsom said. âThe work he did as it relates to strengthening our alliances, including perhaps, some of the most and most consequential as it relates to, the partnerships now and the new strategic alliances with Japan and South Korea in relationship to whatâs going on around the globe.â
Finally, the governor concluded, âSo Iâm very proud of this president, and Iâm very enthusiastic to be out there on the campaign trail for him. When asked, the answerâs yes. And I say that enthusiastically, regardless of time of life. And, I am very, very proud to be a Democrat and proud to support his reelection.â
