A beloved New York City firefighter and veteran passed away due to a heart attack after city officials fired him to help provide funding to care for illegal aliens. Now, his family is broke.
The New York Post reported Sunday that 36-year-old Derek Floyd suffered cardiac arrest and died on April 15. This was four months after the city canned him as part of a larger effort to trim staff and fund services for the tens of thousands of illegals invading the Big Apple.
The outlet reports NYC is aiming to cut the FDNY budget by $74 million by the end of 2025 to make way for even more spending on illegal aliens.
The Post reveals Floyd was dismissed weeks before Christmas. He had been a firefighter for four years and was one of roughly ten Fire Department employees on “long-term duty.”
Long-term duty means a firefighter was either injured on the job and given office work or is out sick for an extended period. Floyd was working in the chaplain’s office after suffering an earlier heart attack in 2019 while in the Fire Academy.
To make matters even worse, Floyd was just shy of vesting additional medical benefits for his family and more than $600,000 worth of death benefits when he was canned, leaving his family with nothing.
“If Derek would have stayed on, he would have had a life insurance policy with the FDNY,” Christine said. “That would have helped out financially because right now, it’s really bad. I’m honestly swimming in a lot of debt.” Floyd’s 34-year-old widow, Cristine, told The Post.
“I think it definitely took a toll once they let him go,” she added. “He always tried to, like, stay positive about it, and he wasn’t really angry.
After Floyd was terminated, he found a job with a nonprofit that helps veterans. The pay, however, was far less than what he made while working for the FDNY.
Moreover, he had limited benefits and the hours prevented him from spending time with his children.
Uniformed Firefighter Association president Andrew Ansbro blasted Derek’s firing in an interview with the Post, noting how unnecessary it was considering the FDNY is already understaffed.
“What disturbs me the most is that the FDNY is understaffed by hundreds of firefighters. Terminating Floyd was absolutely unnecessary,” Ansbro said.
“He had an important job, and the FDNY actually needed him in that unit,” Ansbro continued. “He was terminated so the department could prove that they were making cuts. He deserved better.”
In addition to his loyal service as an FDNY employee, Floyd served three tours of duty in the Middle East with the Marines.
He is survived by Christine and their two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl.
The Post notes that donations to help the Floyds in their time of need can be made to the “New York Firefighters Foundation” and sent by mail addressed to FF Derek Floyd C/O UFA – NYFFinc 204 E. 23rd St., New York, NY 10010.

The US Supreme Court on Monday denied Dr. Peter Navarro’s bid to be freed from prison pending his appeal.

The Supreme Court’s denial of Navarro’s request follows his second ask to the nation’s highest court to set him free while he challenges his conviction.
By default, Navarro’s first emergency request to stay out of prison while appealing the conviction went to Chief Justice John Roberts.
Roberts, who acted on the request alone, said in March that he would not pause Navarro’s four-month prison sentence as his appeal moves forward, forcing the onetime Trump adviser to report to a federal prison in Miami on March 19.
Navarro then renewed his motion to Justice Neil Gorsuch. As the court typically does to avoid repeated efforts, Gorsuch referred the matter to the full court for a vote. Navarro’s request was again denied.
The decision means that Navarro will likely serve his four-month prison term before arguing the appeal of his conviction before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.
Last month Peter Navarro reported to prison for his 4-month sentence. He is the first high-ranking Trump aide to be imprisoned by the Biden Regime.
A federal appeals court previously denied Navarro’s request to remain out of jail.
The three-judge panel – all Obama appointees – included Judges Patricia Millett, Cornelia Pillard and Robert Wilkins.
“[T]he argument presupposes that privilege has actually been invoked in this case in some manner by the President,” the judges wrote in a two-page order, according to Politico. “That did not happen here.”
In September former Trump advisor Dr. Peter Navarro, 74, was convicted of criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena in Liz Cheney’s January 6 investigation.
Navarro did not comply with the subpoena because he said Trump told him to assert executive privilege.
Biden’s DOJ has abused Dr. Navarro throughout the entire process.
According to Navarro, the feds put him in leg irons and threw him in a cell last year.

Professor Dershowitz accused George Soros and the Rockefeller brothers for funding the unprecedented, radical anti-Semitic protests on college campuses across the country.

But that’s not all. American students and their families are also paying for the anti-Israel protests on college campuses across the country.

But there are many other Democrat-led dark money groups that funnel money outside the IRS reporting structure that pay for talking points, posters, recruiting, activists who go campus to campus to organize these protests, but even universities bankroll anti-Israel groups through the student activity fee…
…These protest groups go by different names. The largest, Students for Justice in Palestine, receives funds, among others, from a liberal New York foundation called Westpack, as well as activity fees charged to each student by their university, according to the Watchdog Group NGO Monitor. Yet none of these universities would tell us how much student money is given to pro-Palestinian groups.
The fact that universities now are hiding or giving excuses for not providing that information when they absolutely have to know what that status is. It’s something that is very much, I say, counter to democratic processes.
Another group, the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, claims to have led 43 protests or demonstrations last year. It provides banners and signs, salaries and stipends to hire fellows and activists who go campus to campus running campaigns demanding the US cut ties with Israel. Among their fellows, Malakafana, who disrupted a private dinner at UC Berkeley, and Craig Burkhead-Morton, who, according to the Yale Daily News, was arrested for truspensing. Another is Nida Laffy, who spoke Wednesday at a University of Texas protest US, and previously had been detained for blocking a Biden motorcade in Dallas, according to the Palestinian youth movement. The Campaign for Palestinian Rights reported 1.3 million in revenue in 2022, much of it coming from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and George Soros, Open Society Foundation.
