The eight longest days in space will only end next year.

NASA has finally decided that a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule will bring home the two stranded astronauts aboard the International Space Station for about 80 days,

The issues plaguing the Boeing Starliner spacecraft make ‘a stunning turn of events’ for the beleaguered aerospace giant.

CNN reported:

“The news comes after the space agency held a formal review on Saturday to determine whether it would deem Boeing’s Starliner vehicle safe enough to return home with its crew — or if SpaceX’s workhorse Crew Dragon spacecraft would have to step in to save the day.”

STRANDED: Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore.

Helium leaks and thrusters that abruptly stopped working have plagued the test flight that took Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore to the space station in early June.

“On Saturday, Nelson said NASA considered its extensive experience with spaceflight — both successful and unsuccessful — when making the decision. A poll of NASA representatives from across the agency’s departments and research, oversight and development centers was unanimous, according to agency officials.

‘We have had mistakes done in the past: We lost two space shuttles as a result of there not being a culture in which information could come forward’, Nelson said. ‘Spaceflight is risky, even at its safest and even at its most routine. And a test flight, by nature, is neither safe, nor routine’.”

The next SpaceX mission will leave two empty seats for Williams and Wilmore to occupy on the Crew-9 flight home.

They will remain on-site for an additional six months.

“The reassignment to Crew-9 will push the duo’s return to February 2025 at the earliest.”

“’The bottom line relative to bringing Starliner back is — there was just too much uncertainty in the prediction of the thrusters’, [Stitch] said. It was just too much risk with the crew, and so we decided to pursue the uncrewed path forward’.”

The space agency says it intentionally designed its Commercial Crew Program to allow each spacecraft to serve as backup for the others.

“’We’re in a kind of a new situation here and that we’ve got multiple options’, said Ken Bowersox, associate administrator for NASA’s Space Operations Mission Directorate, on August 7. ‘That’s something that we’re going to have to deal with in the future — we could find ourselves in a situation where we need to bring a (SpaceX) Dragon crew or a (Russian) Soyuz crew back on a Starliner’.”

Breaking: Israel Launches Preemptive Strikes in Lebanon to Thwart Massive Hezbollah Attack
August 24, 2024

Israel announced late Saturday night (US EDT) that it had launched preemptive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon to thwart a massive rocket, missile and drone attack.

The Israeli government posted announcements in English, “In a self-defense act to remove these threats, the IDF is striking terror targets in Lebanon, from which Hezbollah was planning to launch their attacks on Israeli civilians.”

And Hebrew (via translation):

IDF spokesman Hagari is informing the public tonight that the Air Force began a wave of attacks in Lebanon – a pre-emptive attack, after recognizing Hezbollah was preparing to launch rockets and missiles at Israel

Hagari: “A short time ago, we detected Hezbollah’s preparations to launch missiles and rockets at the State of Israel. Following this, we attack proactively to remove the threat to the citizens of the State of Israel. Air Force planes are now attacking terrorist targets in Lebanon from which we detect that Hezbollah is preparing to launch threats to our territory.
In the near future, Hezbollah will launch rockets, and possibly missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, towards the territory of the State of Israel. Accordingly, “life-saving” instructions of the Home Front Command will be distributed in the various regions.

We warn the Lebanese citizens who are in South Lebanon – we recognize that Hezbollah is now preparing to shoot widely into Israeli territory near your home. You are in danger. We attack and remove Hezbollah threats. Anyone who is near the areas where Hezbollah operates, is required to stay away from them immediately, in order to protect himself and his family.

The IDF is doing and will do everything necessary to protect the citizens of the State of Israel. In the next hour I will appear here again and update you on all developments”

CPAC México: What to Expect and Why It’s Important

CPAC México: What to Expect and Why It’s Important

CPAC México: What to Expect and Why It’s Important
August 24, 2024

On August 24th, the world’s largest conservative convention is being held in a Hispanic nation: CPAC Mexico. The event brings together prominent figures united in the fight for life, country, and family, and against the progressive agenda that threatens them. Gateway Hispano spoke with René Bolio, the director of CPAC Mexico, to learn more details.

What is the Purpose of CPAC Mexico?

The purpose of CPAC Mexico is multifaceted. First, to bring together conservative leaders, academics, and activists. Second, to learn from the successes seen globally in political, cultural, and electoral arenas with conservative values. Third, to give shape to the Hispanic-American, particularly Mexican, conservative movement. Additionally, it aims to project support for conservative politicians to Latinos in the United States as the U.S. elections approach.

Who Will Participate (Both Panelists and Audience)?

Around 1,000 people from across Mexico and several other countries will attend this event. Speakers include politicians primarily from Latin America, such as José Antonio Kast, Eduardo Bolsonaro, María Fernanda Cabal, Alejandro Muñante, and Henry Kronfle, as well as American politicians like Tulsi Gabbard, Kari Lake, Richard Grenell, Jaime Florez, and Matt Schlapp. European politicians from France, Spain, and Hungary will also be present. The host and president of CPAC Mexico is Eduardo Verástegui, a film producer and human rights activist.

What Impact Will It Have in a Society Where Conservatives Had No Candidate in the Presidential Elections?

This event, like other political activities, seeks to fill the gap in the political spectrum. A significant number of people worldwide, especially in Mexico, lack representation. Despite being a group close to the majority, at least in Mexico, no party represents conservative values, as reflected in the last Mexican elections in June, where all the presidential candidates were from the progressive left. One of the objectives of this conference is to offer Mexicans new, effective, and profitable ideas, which are conservative or right-wing. We hope that CPAC Mexico will be the beginning of a movement that can politically and culturally represent this large portion of the Mexican population.

What Message Would You Give to Society About the Importance of These Events?

The central message of this conference is to move from resistance, tolerance, and passivity to action. We can no longer wait for someone to represent us or do something. We must step forward, organize, get to know each other, and promote leaders who believe in the same values as we do, who prioritize God, country, and family above all else. Part of this message is that we are not alone in the world, and with truth on our side, we can resist, fight, and eventually achieve victories.
