U.S. egg prices nosedived by 12.7% in April, marking the steepest monthly decline since March 1984, according to the latest Consumer Price Index data released Tuesday.

The average price for a dozen Grade A eggs fell to $5.12, down from a record $6.23 in March.

According to the latest U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Five of the six major grocery store food group indexes decreased in April. Driven primarily by a 12.7-percent decrease in the index for eggs, the index for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs fell 1.6 percent in April after rising in recent months. The fruits and vegetables index decreased 0.4 percent over the month and the cereals and bakery products index declined 0.5 percent.

The index for food at home rose 2.0 percent over the last 12 months. The meats, poultry, fish, and eggs index rose 7.0 percent over the last 12 months as the eggs index increased 49.3 percent.

In January 2017, as Trump assumed office, the average price for a dozen eggs was approximately $1.32. Throughout his tenure, prices remained relatively steady.

When Joe Biden took office in January 2021, the average price for a dozen Grade A eggs was a modest $1.47. Fast forward to December 2024, and that same dozen now costs a staggering $4.15—a nearly 200% increase, according to the Federal Reserve of St. Louis.

The Biden administration has attempted to deflect blame, citing factors such as avian influenza outbreaks and supply chain disruptions. However, these excuses fall flat when considering the broader context of rampant inflation and economic policies that have devalued the purchasing power of the average American.

Prices had shot up due to mass culling of chicken flocks during the waning months of the Biden administration to fight an outbreak of avian flu that Democrats have been trying to blame on President Trump.

President Donald Trump’s administration has taken decisive action to address the crisis.

In February, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a $1 billion investment to bolster biosecurity measures on farms.

The Trump Department of Justice also investigated major egg producers regarding the steep rise in prices.

A sickening act of violence took the life of a four-time breast cancer survivor, sending her entire Colorado town into a state of mourning.

As 9 News Denver reported on Saturday, 49-year-old Jennifer James was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer in her Berthoud home late last month when 20-year-old Ebenezer Worku opened fire into her house. A single bullet struck a window and hit James in the arm and chest, killing her.

Police arrested Worku at the scene of the crime, which occurred on April 28. As FOX 31 Denver reported, Worku claimed to police that he fired his Glock 22 handgun at her home, but had no clue whether he had shot anyone.

Worku also said he fired his weapon again while trying to clear the chamber. Police said two of James’s four children were home when the incident occurred.

According to the New York Post, police were able to track down Worku after using surveillance footage and license plate reader data.

Jonah Beeken, the owner of B-Rad’s Arcade and Family Fun Center, provided a valuable account to 9 News Denver regarding the night of the incident. His place of business is located close to James’s home.

Beeken told the outlet that he received a text message on the night of the shooting from other business owners, warning of random gunfire and advising businesses to lock down. Afterward, police deputies searched the area and requested surveillance footage.

“They were walking up and down the street, kind of checking the buildings out,” Beeken explained. “It was our community, and it was somebody that was important to us, because we’re small.”

Beeken also noted that James left behind four children and confirmed that she was fighting cancer.

“She was a mother of four, and she was battling cancer at the time,” Beeken said. “That was the first thing her friend told me when she called me.”

James’s daughter, Ashley, sent a text statement to 9 News Denver, mourning her mother’s death.

“My mom was a single mom of 4 of us kids. She was a four-time breast cancer survivor,” Ashley James wrote. “It feels like a cruel joke that she was taken from us in such a senseless and violent way, when she did nothing but fight for her life since she was 29-years-old.”

“She never once complained about her treatments in those 20 years. She was the most selfless mom and did everything for us kids,” James added. “Her resiliency is something that I have always admired and is something that I hope to carry on in her memory.”

The New York Post reports that Worku has been charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at Larimer County Jail on a $1.25 million cash-only bond.

President Donald Trump took aim at the globalist-led European Union this week, declaring it “nastier than China” and exposing what he says are decades of unfair trade practices that have left American workers and industries in the dust.

Speaking from the White House on Monday, May 12, Trump didn’t pull any punches. “The European Union is, in many ways, nastier than China,” he said flatly, according to a report from The Telegraph.

“We’ve just started with them. They sell us 13 million cars—we sell them none. They flood our markets with agricultural goods—we can’t get ours in. They don’t take our products. We have all the cards.”

Trump’s fiery remarks came during the announcement of a sweeping executive order to slash prescription drug prices for American consumers. The plan aims to stop U.S. citizens from subsidizing Europe’s state-controlled healthcare systems.

“The European Union has been brutal,” Trump said. “The drug companies told me horror stories. We’re done paying for Europe’s cheap medicine. Europe’s gonna have to pay more, and America is going to pay a lot less.”

The policy will either compel Big Pharma to lower prices voluntarily or face pressure from the federal government. “This is the power of the American market,” Trump emphasized. “We’re not going to be taken advantage of anymore.”

The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, last week threatened retaliatory tariffs on up to €95 billion ($106 billion) worth of U.S. goods if trade talks falter—a bluff, say Trump allies. White House trade advisor Peter Navarro blasted Brussels’ threat as “a grave mistake,” warning that it would backfire spectacularly.

“Europe has been playing both sides for too long,” said Navarro. “They lecture us on democracy while shaking down our industries with one-sided regulations, suing our companies, and then whining when we push back.”

President Trump, who recently called EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen “fantastic,” hasn’t met her in person this term, and now any future meeting appears contingent on Europe bringing a serious deal to the table.

Von der Leyen, for her part, said she’d only engage if a “concrete” trade proposal was in place—something Trump seems more than ready to deliver, on American terms.

With tariffs already imposed on EU metals and automobiles—and more possibly on the horizon—Trump is signaling that the US will no longer play the role of global ATM. The 10% baseline tariffs and 25% auto duties are part of a broader strategy to reverse decades of offshoring and reinvigorate domestic manufacturing.

“The globalists shipped our jobs overseas, and Brussels cheered them on,” Trump told reporters. “But we hold the cards now. This ends here.”

Interestingly, Trump’s EU criticism comes as he attempts to mend fences with Beijing. After tense trade negotiations in Switzerland, the US and China agreed to scale back mutual tariffs, cutting American levies on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China slashes its countermeasures from 125% to 10%. The 90-day rollback gives both sides a bit of breathing room.

A magistrate judge warned US Attorney Alina Habba and ICE against ‘out-of-court’ statements about the case against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka during a hearing on Friday.

Public statements made by Alina Habba and ICE spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin following Ras Baraka’s arrest are at issue.

The Mayor of Newark was arrested for criminal trespass on Friday after storming the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility.

According to News12NJ, Baraka was shouting at agents after he gained entry through the gate.

On Friday, Alina Habba said Mayor Baraka was taken into custody after he ignored multiple warnings from DHS agents.

“The Mayor of Newark, Ras Baraka, committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center in Newark, New Jersey this afternoon. He has willingly chosen to disregard the law. That will not stand in this state. He has been taken into custody. NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW,” Alina Habba said.

During a virtual hearing on Friday, US Magistrate André M. Espinosa warned Alina Habba against making public statements about an ongoing investigation after Ras Baraka’s attorney argued his client who is also running for New Jersey governor.

Before Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was released from custody on Friday, a federal magistrate quickly determined he was not a flight risk and cautioned federal officials against making out-of-court statements about the mayor, who is also running for New Jersey governor, according to a newly-released transcript of the extraordinary virtual hearing … During the 18-minute videoconference, Baraka’s attorney Raymond Brown asked [U.S. Magistrate André M.] Espinosa to warn Trump administration officials against making derogatory public statements about his client … Earlier in the day, interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba had posted on social media that Baraka had “willingly chosen to disregard the law” before he was arrested at the immigration detention center he was protesting and seeking to inspect along with three members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation. Espinosa said to the extent anyone had made such comments, he would “caution them to heed carefully to the rules of professional conduct” and “boundaries of propriety for public comment related to an ongoing investigation and/or prosecution.”

On Monday, Alina Habba announced her office has launched a federal investigation into the violent altercation between Congressional Democrats and ICE agents at the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark on Friday.

“My office is undertaking a thorough investigation in coordination with our Federal Agency partners of what transpired on Friday at Delaney Hall. As is true of every investigation this office handles, all available evidence will be thoroughly reviewed prior to making a determination on how to proceed. I do not take these matters lightly,” Alina Habba said on Monday.
