At the Brink of Being Ousted From Power, and as Talks Intensify of Turning Canada Into America’s 51st State, PM Trudeau Sends Ministers to Mar-A-Lago To Negotiate With Trump Team

It’s been reported that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is spending the Holidays weighing his options and deciding what to do with his political future.

If it was up to Trudeau’s Labour MP colleagues, he would come back in the New Year and resign from the party leadership, allowing some other politician to lead the party into the new election they are poised to be crushed on.

Most likely, the PM will come back and fight it to the end, even if he has become a political joke and there’s even talk of turning Canada into America’s 51st state.

But for now, he seems to want to keep the government functioning, as it’s revealed that high-ranking Canadian officials met with top aides to Donald Trump on Friday (27) to discuss border security between the nations, and also the potential impact of the promised 25% Trump tariffs in the Canadian (and American) economy.

So, it was up to Canadian Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc and Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly to make the pilgrimage to Mar-a-Lago for a meeting with Howard Lutnick and Doug Burgum, upcoming heads of the departments of commerce and interior.

NBC News reported:

“A spokesperson for the Canadian Finance Ministry said the meeting was ‘positive’ and ‘productive’, and served as a follow-up to Trump and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s dinner last month after Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on Canadian goods.

‘Both Ministers outlined the measures in Canada’s Border Plan and reiterated the shared commitment to strengthen border security as well as combat the harm caused by fentanyl to save Canadian and American lives’, said spokesperson Jean-Sébastien Comeau in a statement.”

“Going into the meeting, a separate spokesperson for Finance Ministry said: ‘The Ministers intend to focus on Canada’s efforts to combat fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration and the measures outlined in Canada’s Border Plan, as well as the negative impacts that the imposition of 25% tariffs on Canadian goods would have on both Canada and the United States’.”

Trump has repeatedly vowed to enact tariffs on Canada and Mexico as a political response to the lack of border security, arguing that both neighbors contribute to the flow of fentanyl into the U.S.

Fentanyl seized at the northern border is only a small fraction of the amounts seized inside the US.

“Canada and Mexico are two of the United States’ top trading partners, meaning tariffs would have wide-ranging effects.

Trump has recently mocked Trudeau by referring to him as “governor” of Canada. In social media posts on Christmas, Trump repeated the moniker while suggesting the U.S. could annex the country as its 51st state.”
