Barack Obama Posts Lukewarm Tribute to Joe Biden — Thanks Him For a ‘Lifetime of Service’
January 16, 2025
Barack Obama posted a lukewarm tribute to Joe Biden as he prepares to leave office.
Obama, whom Biden served as vice-president across his two terms in office, said that Biden had driven the “world’s strongest recovery” and had shown “character” in putting politics aside by deciding to run for the presidency.
He wrote in a post on the X platform:
Four years ago, in the middle of a pandemic, we needed a leader with the character to put politics aside and do what was right.
That’s what [Joe Biden] did. At a time when our economy was reeling, he drove what would become the world’s strongest recovery – with 17 million new jobs, historic wage gains, and lower health care costs.
He passed landmark legislation to rebuild our nation’s infrastructure and address the threat of climate change.
I’m grateful to Joe for his leadership, his friendship, and his lifetime of service to this country we love.

While the statement may have been gracious, the reality is that relations between Biden and Obama have recently become more fractured.
It has long been reported that Biden has a deep-seated grudge against Obama after urging him not to run in 2016 and instead allow Hillary Clinton to pursue the Democratic nomination.
Back in August, Politico revealed that Biden was unhappy with how Obama handled the fallout of his disastrous debate performance that ultimately led to his quitting the race.
After initially coming out in support of Biden, the former president then went publicly quiet. However, he also refused to demand that Biden leave the race.
“Biden has long thought that Obama’s staff looked down upon him and the president’s aides still bristle when Obama allies like David Axelrod or the Pod Save America cast criticize the incumbent,” they reported at the time.
“Many people around Biden were rankled when, in 2016, Obama made clear he favored Hillary Clinton to succeed him and not his own vice president.”
It is unclear how Obama feels about Biden and whether he, like many Democrats, blamesr Trump’s victory on Biden’s refusal to drop out and not run for a second term.
This, in their minds, scuppered the chances of Kamala Harris or another Democrat in winning the presidency.
Whatever the truth behind their relationship, one thing is abundantly clear; the era of these two men calling the shots is well and truly over.
