Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s latest tattoo is triggering Muslim activists.

In photos circulating across social media, Hegseth appears to have a new tattoo that says “kafir”, an Arabic term used by Muslims to describe unbelievers.

The choice of tattoo has triggered Muslim activists, who have accused Hegseth of being Islamaphobic.

“This is the normalization of Islamophobia at the highest levels of power,” wrote the pro-Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani on X.

“What else is this supposed to mean besides U.S. foreign policy being a crusade against Muslims?”

A similar reaction could be found over at the left-wing social media platform Bluesky.

Secretary Hegseth has several tattoos that reflect his patriotism, military service, and faith. Among them is a large American flag, a symbol of his love for his country.

He also has various military insignia and unit symbols, honoring his time in the Army National Guard and his deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as a large cross tattoo, representing his Christian faith.

Following his nomination as Secretary of Defense by President Trump, left-wing commentators latched onto Hegseth’s tattoos as evidence that is a white supremacist.

Unsurprisingly, their smear campaign failed, and he was confirmed to the role shortly after Trump took office.
