EUROPE MOVES RIGHT – Even Belgium Now Has a Right-Wing, Nationalist Government Led by Long-Time Antwerp Mayor Bart De Wever

Bart De Wever, new Belgian Prime Minister.

The anti-establishment political forces continue to increase their power in Europe, and now even famously liberal Belgium, the home of the now-infamous European Union, has fallen into the grips of the right-wing revolution sweeping the continent.

After almost eight months of coalition talks, Belgium is finally forming a new government to be led – for the first time ever – by a rightwing, nationalist party.

Financial Times reported:

“Bart De Wever, a founding member of the N-VA party, will be prime minister. N-VA has advocated for greater independence for Flanders, Belgium’s Dutch-speaking half, and pushed for it and Wallonia, the French-speaking part, to exist as confederal states.”

While Globalist-Liberal Ursula von der Leyen was reelected as European Commissioner, she sees the continent continuing to march to the right.

De Wever met with Belgian King Philippe yesterday (31), and the palace announced that a government agreement has been reached.

“Maxime Prévot, leader of Les Engagés, one of the coalition partners, said: ‘Here we are! Belgium finally has a courageous and responsible government agreement that thinks about future generations’.

De Wever initially reacted on X, quoting Julius Caesar on crossing the Rubicon: Alea iacta est! (the die is cast).”

De Wever is the first N-VA politician to become prime minister, but has served as mayor of Antwerp, the country’s second-largest city, since 2013.

He advocated for a crackdown on cocaine smuggling at Antwerp’s port, including calling in the army.

“De Wever joins the ranks of other right-wing nationalist EU leaders, strengthening the voice of the European Conservatives and Reformists party around the EU Council table, which also includes leaders such as Italy’s Giorgia Meloni.”

The new coalition include the Flemish Christian Democrats and leftist Vooruit, and the francophones liberal Mouvement Réformateur (MR) and centrists Les Engagés.

De Wever’s party gained 24 of the 82 seats held by the coalition parties.

“Belgium has a history of long government formation, in part because of its regional division, which means parties with different linguistic and political affinities have to negotiate to form a joint federal government.”
