Over 75,000 federal employees have now accepted Donald Trump’s buyout offer, according to the Office of Personnel Management.

Last month, federal employees were told that if they wished to resign from the government rather than work for the Trump administration, they would be paid through the end of September.

Although not officially a buyout, it is otherwise known as “deferred resignation.”

The figure of 75,000 is a significant improvement on the 20,000 resignations reported last week. It equates to around 3.75 percent of the total federal workforce.

“This goes to show that lawfare will not ultimately prevail over the will of 77 million Americans who supported President Trump and his priorities,” said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.

However, the Trump administration is said to have higher expectations wand was hoping for a turnover of between five and 10 percent.

While partly about rooting Biden holdovers out from the federal government, the offer is also about making people adhere to the administration’s expectations that they will come into the office rather than work remotely.

“We’re five years past COVID and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in office,” the email stated. “That is unacceptable.”

“If you choose not to continue in your current role in the federal workforce, we thank you for your service to your country and you will be provided with a dignified, fair departure from the federal government utilizing a deferred resignation program,” it continued.

The offer's deadline ended on Wednesday after a federal judge ended a temporary pause on the program.

The Office of Personnel Management responded to the court’s decision on Wednesday, saying it was "pleased the court has rejected a desperate effort to strike down the Deferred Resignation Program."

"As of 7:00 PM tonight, the program is now closed," OPM spokesperson McLaurine Pinover said in a statement.

"There is no longer any doubt: the Deferred Resignation Program was both legal and a valuable option for federal employees.”

“This program was carefully designed, thoroughly vetted, and provides generous benefits so federal workers can plan for their futures.”
