In a decisive move to cleanse the swamp of bureaucratic resistance, President Donald Trump has officially fired Democrat Ellen Weintraub, the long-standing Commissioner and Chair of the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Yet, in a display of blatant disrespect for the President’s authority, Weintraub has dug in her heels, refusing to vacate her position, claiming her dismissal is somehow illegal.

Weintraub was elected as chair last December 2024.

FEC commissioners are appointed to six-year terms by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

Weintraub argues that a commissioner can only be replaced after the president nominates a successor and the Senate confirms them, according to far-left New York Times.

“Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner & Chair,” posted by Trump-hater Weintraub on X Thursday evening.

She added, “There’s a legal way to replace FEC commissioners — this isn’t it. I’ve been lucky to serve the American people & stir up some good trouble along the way. That’s not changing anytime soon.”

Alongside her post, Weintraub shared a copy of the letter from the White House, dated January 31, 2025.

“Dear Commissioner Weintraub,” the letter states. “You are hereby removed as a Member of the Federal Election Commission, effective immediately. Thank you for your service on the Commission.”

Fox News reported:

Weintraub took aim at President Trump in 2019, when she said his “baseless” claims about voter fraud were “damaging to our democracy.”

She criticized the president during an appearance on CNN and claimed he was spreading information for which he had no proof.

“I think it is damaging to our democracy,” Weintraub told host John Berman, “to spread information like that if there is no proof.”

Weintraub insisted there was no evidence of rampant voter fraud in 2016, responding to Trump’s repeated claims to the contrary.

Weintraub also voted to launch investigations into the president for allegations that his campaign coordinated with super political action committees and for issues related to claims that Russia attempted to sway the 2016 election results.

She also supported probes into Trump for allegedly using his 2016 campaign events to promote his various businesses, such as hotels, golf courses, bottled water, and a winery.
