REPORT: Trump and Border Czar Tom Homan Unhappy with Current Deportation Numbers — ICE Under Pressure to Ramp Up Operations

“Deportation flights have begun” – White House on X

Donald Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, are reportedly unhappy with the current number of deportations.

Mass deportation of illegal immigrants was a central plank of Trump’s presidential campaign, and his voters are eagerly anticipating the removal of millions of aliens who have broken U.S. immigration law.

However, NBC reports that Trump and Homan are disappointed with the numbers so far and are demanding that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ramp up their operations.

The report states:

A source familiar with Trump’s thinking said the president is getting “angry” that more people are not being deported and that the message is being passed along to “border czar” Tom Homan, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and acting ICE Director Caleb Vitello.

“It’s driving him nuts they’re not deporting more people,” said the person familiar with Trump’s thinking.

A source familiar with internal conversations at ICE said Homan has a daily conference call with ICE agents in which he has been known to express his frustration with ICE numbers.

Another source said Homan is “unhappy” and has “made his unhappiness known” about the relatively low numbers of arrests and deportations.

Approximately 8,000 people have been detained since Trump took office last month, although some of them have been released, and many are still awaiting deportation.

While this is still an improvement on the Biden administration’s efforts, it is still well below the numbers required to fulfill Trump’s promise of deporting millions of people.

In order to deport just one million migrants a year, which would still only represent a fraction of the total number of illegal aliens residing in the United States, ICE will need to increase their numbers to 2,700 arrests a day.

A Trump spokesperson White House spokesperson defended the administration’s record so far in deporting criminal illegal aliens.

“After four years of the Biden administration’s outright incompetence and negligence, the Trump administration has re-established a no-nonsense enforcement of and respect for the immigration laws of the United States,” they said in a statement.

“Hundreds of violent, predatory, and gang-affiliated criminal illegal aliens have already been rounded up and deported by ICE since President Trump took office — and the Trump administration is aligned on securing our borders and ensuring that mass deportations are conducted quickly and effectively to put Americans and America First.”
