Russian Forces Conquer Large Donetsk Stronghold of Velikaya Novosyolka – Crumbling Ukrainian Defenses Put Up Limited Resistance (VIDEOS)
January 27, 2025

Russian forces wave flags at the top of a building in Velikaya Novosyolka.

The Russian Federation forces have unstoppable momentum in the Donetsk region, with a string of victories and the noticeable weakening of the Ukrainian defenses.

Since they took the important rail and logistics hub of Kurakhovo, the Red Army has been on a roll. Just in January, they took Nadiya, Dachenskoye, Shevchenko (with lithium mine), Kalinovo, Peschanoye, Terny and Neskuchnoye, Ukrainka, Slavyanka, Petropavlovka and Vremevka, Vozdvizhenka, Novoyegorovka, Volkovo, Zapadnoye, Solyonoe, Timofeyevka and Zelenoye – most of these towns and villages in Donetsk, some in northern Kharkov.

The list below may seem just a bunch of strange Slavic names, but the Fact is: it’s a lot of settlements.

And less than a month after Kurakhovo, Moscow conquers the even larger stronghold of Velikaya Novosyolka, a fortress city almost on the border with Dnipropetrovsk, a region that, despite getting clobbered by Geran Drones and all kinds of missiles, so far haven’t been breached by Russian troops.

A distinct feature of the battle for Velikaya Novosyolka was how fast the Ukrainian defenses folded and retreated, with very little fighting, leaving the town comparatively less destroyed by the siege.

Long gone are the days of Bakhmut, where relentless Azov Nazis put up a fight to the end in the Azovstal factory grounds. Most of today’s troops conscripted by Kiev do not compare with the defenders from the beginning of the war.

Swiss paper Neue Zürcher Zeitung (via Slavyangrad)

“The military situation in eastern Ukraine has deteriorated sharply. Defense lines have collapsed in various parts of the front.

[…] The current scenario is reminiscent of the costly retreat battles near Avdeevka a year ago and near Ugledar in October. In both cases, the high command waited too long in a hopeless situation and gave the order to withdraw too late. Accordingly, there is great indignation among some Ukrainians that Kiev seems to have learned nothing.

After Velyka Novosyolka, the Russian Armed Forces will go north, where there are few topographic obstacles, to the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region.”

Watch: fireworks celebrate the conquest of Velikaya Novosyolka.
