California Governor Gavin Newsom—one of the most vocal leftist champions of the radical LGBTQ+ agenda—just committed the ultimate sin in the eyes of his progressive allies: he admitted the truth.

In the first episode of his new podcast, This is Gavin Newsom, the California Democrat shockingly broke ranks with the far left, conceding that biological men competing in women’s sports is, in his own words, “deeply unfair.”

“I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness. It’s deeply unfair,” Newsom told Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk:
You right now should come out and be like, “You know what? The young man who’s about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports—that shouldn’t happen. You, as the governor, should step out and say no.”

Gavin Newsom:
No, and I appreciate that.

Charlie Kirk:
But would you do something like that? Would you say, “No men in female sports?”

Gavin Newsom:
Well, I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that; that’s easy to call out, the unfairness of that. There’s also a humility and grace that these people lack, which makes them more likely to commit suicide, and suffer from anxiety and depression. The way that people talk about vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well.

Newsom’s momentary lapse into reality has already ignited backlash from the far left. The radical wing of the Democratic Party isn’t pleased, and the cracks in their so-called “unity” are starting to show.

Assembly Member Alex Lee, a Democrat from San Jose, expressed his outrage on social media, stating, “WTF. Trans people and LGBTQ+ people are under attack. We don’t need our gov caving to conservative talking points that further hurt and scapegoat 1% of the population.”

Tony Hoang, executive director of Equality California, blasted Newsom in a lengthy statement:

“Right now, transgender youth, their families, their doctors, and their teachers are facing unprecedented attacks from extremist politicians who want to eviscerate their civil rights and erase them from public life. In this moment of crisis, they need leaders who will unequivocally fight for them. Instead of standing strong, the Governor has added to the heartbreak and fear caused by the relentless barrage of hate from the Trump Administration.”

Meanwhile, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) was clearly perplexed by Newsom’s flip-flop, reminding Fox News that Newsom previously backed California’s 2013 law permitting trans-identifying athletes to play in women’s sports:

“For a decade, he’s supported this law. It’s still the law on the books. Is he saying we need to repeal that law?”

WATCH:

During a Meet the Press interview, Democrat Senator Elissa Slotkin dodged direct agreement with Newsom, downplaying the issue by saying, “Let the local community figure this out.”

WATCH:

Let’s be clear: Newsom is not suddenly developing a moral conscience—he’s positioning himself for a future presidential run.

The problem? His woke record is catching up to him. Now, he’s awkwardly trying to pivot to the center, pretending to care about fairness in women’s sports while refusing to actually reverse the policies he championed.

Megyn Kelly wrote on X, “Exactly right. Don’t fall for it. The trans stuff? Other than Minnesota, there isn’t a more radical state in the union on so-called “trans” kids than Newsom’s CA. Don’t help pretend his fake turn to the middle is real. He’s a radical leftist & would govern [accordingly.]”
