On Saturday, the East Carolina University Pirates took on the Wolf Pack of North Carolina State at the Military Bowl in Annapolis, Maryland in Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

It wasn’t ECU’s 26-21 win over NC State that had everyone talking post-game, but rather the ugly brawl that took place on the field in the final minute of the game which left a referee bloodied and eight players ejected from the game.

With under a minute left in the game, Wolfpack quarterback CJ Bailey was picked off, and the Pirates, up by five, were in a comfortable position to bleed the remaining time off the clock.

As Pirate receiver Yannick Smith was running off the field,  he appeared to shout something, assumed to be less than charitable, toward NC State defensive back Tamarcus Cooley.

Cooley chased down Smith and yanked him to the ground, igniting a melee of pushing and shoving from other players in the area.

Umpire Rod Tucker held a towel to his face after being left with a bloody gash below his eye while the refs gathered to assess the situation and penalties. Ultimately, eight players were ejected.

Umpire Rod Tucker was left bloodied after an ugly Bowl Game brawl.

Tucker appeared to be injured after an ECU player ran up behind an NC State player and shoved him in the back, forcing his helmet into his face.
