A disturbing video recorded by a bystander has gone viral, showing a fatal confrontation involving a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer on the 105 Freeway in Watts on a Sunday afternoon.
Around 3:15 p.m., the CHP responded to multiple calls reporting a man walking through traffic near the Wilmington Avenue exit of the 105 Freeway. According to CHP officials, a struggle ensued when a trooper made contact with the pedestrian, ultimately resulting in an officer-involved shooting, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, depicts a CHP officer and another individual engaged in a physical struggle in the middle of the freeway. Within seconds, a gunshot can be heard. The officer then stands up and fires at least four additional shots at the prone man.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed on Monday that the person involved in the incident had died, withholding identification pending notification of family, and not disclosing the cause of death.
The CHP has not released further details about the shooting, directing all inquiries to the California Department of Justice (DOJ), which investigates police shootings involving unarmed individuals. The state DOJ has confirmed that it is actively investigating the incident.

Travis Norton, a law enforcement officer who runs the California Assn. of Tactical Officers After Action Review, said video is a limited way to understand a police shooting.
“It is hard to diagnose without knowing what the officer saw, experienced and interpreted was happening,” Norton said. “All I see is a very short scuffle. I see the suspect point something that appears to look like some sort of weapon. … From the video, without knowing anything else about it, the use of deadly force appears appropriate.”
But other experts said the use of force raises many questions.
Ed Obayashi, a police shootings expert who investigates the incidents for numerous law enforcement agencies in California, said investigators will immediately ask the officer why he was engaging with the person without a partner or backup in the immediate vicinity.
Obayashi also said that investigators will look into why the officer felt the need to shoot the man after standing up and disengaging from him.

In a bold move to address corporate malpractice in drug manufacturing, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced the filing of a lawsuit against pharmaceutical giants Pfizer, Inc., Tris Pharma, Inc., and Tris Pharma CEO Ketan Mehta.
The companies are accused of engaging in deceitful practices that resulted in defrauding the Texas Medicaid program by providing adulterated pharmaceutical drugs specifically designed for children.
The lawsuit, brought forth by the Attorney General’s Civil Medicaid Fraud Division, leverages the provisions of the Texas Health Care Program Fraud Prevention Act (THFPA).
Paxton’s office stated that Pfizer and Tris Pharma collaborated to produce and distribute Quillivant XR, a medication developed for pediatric attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), despite recurring failure in quality control assessments.
“Though Quillivant is approved by the FDA as acceptably safe and effective for ADHD when taken as directed, it still has risks associated with normal use. According to the FDA, the most common adverse reactions include insomnia, nausea, vomiting, anxiety, and tachycardia.
The filing states, “There is also a chance for patients to experience severe side effects, including serious cardiovascular reactions (which can cause sudden death), psychiatric adverse reactions (including mania), and long-term suppression of growth. Additionally, when Quillivant is not taken at the correct dose, patients could experience an overdose requiring emergency medical intervention.”
According to investigations, for several years, Tris Pharma actively manipulated the drug’s testing procedures to sidestep federal and state regulations, ensuring Quillivant XR remained in the market. During this period, Pfizer was fully aware of the malpractices but continued to supply the medication for Medicaid-covered children, falsely assuring that it conformed to legal standards.
The deceit not only compromised the integrity of the Texas Medicaid program but also risked the well-being of the children who received Quillivant XR. Family reports indicate that the drug was often ineffective, aligning with the periods when Tris Pharma reportedly tampered with the quality tests.
“Under the FDCA, it is illegal to adulterate a drug, or to introduce into interstate commerce any drug that is adulterated. A drug becomes adulterated if “the methods used in, or the facilities or controls used for, its manufacture … do not conform to or are not operated or administered in conformity with current good manufacturing practice,” the filing stated.
“I am horrified by the dishonesty we uncovered in this investigation. Pfizer and Tris intentionally concealed and failed to disclose the issues with Quillivant to receive taxpayer funded benefits through Texas Medicaid, defrauding the state and endangering children,” said Attorney General Paxton in a statement.
In an X post, Paxton wrote: “Today, I have filed suit against Pfizer and Tris Pharma for defrauding Texas Medicaid and providing adulterating pharmaceuticals to children. I am horrified by the dishonesty we uncovered in this investigation. Pfizer and Tris intentionally concealed and failed to disclose the issues with Quillivant to receive taxpayer funded benefits through Texas Medicaid, defrauding the state and endangering children. Our Civil Medicaid Fraud Division has done an outstanding job holding these pharmaceutical companies accountable.”

A large military aircraft, a Boeing P-8A Poseidon, crash-landed in Kaneohe Bay in Hawaii after overshooting the runway. The plane is often used for reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, and hunting for submarines. All nine people on board survived after swimming to shore.
At approximately 10:45 AM, an alert was issued for a downed military aircraft, which prompted a swift response from the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department, the AP News reported.
Early reports suggested potential casualties, but upon arrival, crew members were met with much more reassuring news.
Shayne Enright, a spokesperson for the department, told AP that there were no injuries reported among the crew. They were informed by military officials that all crew members had already made it to shore safely.
Military sources revealed that the P-8A aircraft, a reconnaissance model frequently deployed for submarine detection and intelligence missions, overshot the runway during an operation at the adjacent Marine base.
Gunnery Sgt. Orlando Perez, speaking on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps, indicated that the reason for the overshoot remained unclear, with further details to be uncovered by an ongoing investigation.
According to the Navy website, “the P-8A Poseidon is the U.S. Navy’s multi-mission maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft conducting long-range anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). P-8A Poseidon is the replacement aircraft for the P-3C Orion.”
