Law Enforcement Whistleblower: Far-Left Michigan Atty General Lied, Never Referred GBI Strategies Investigation to FBI, Federal Authorities, Despite Admitting Voter Fraud was Real in 2020 Election
March 31, 2025
Americans were told that the 2020 elections were the ‘safest and most secure’ in history. But evidence of ongoing, systemic, voter registration fraud underway in Michigan suggested otherwise. Far-left Attorney General Dana Nessel prosecuted the 2020 Michigan Trump electors with a variety of felonies as part of a push to prosecute Trump electors nationwide, based on the idea that there was no reasonable basis to believe that there was systemic voter fraud in the 2020 election.
Now we know that not only was it reasonable to believe there was voter fraud in the 2020 election, but authorities were investigating a far-left organizing group that was taking millions of dollars from left-wing groups and producing ridiculous voter registrations in key locations around the state.
In response to the reporting by TGP’s reporters Benjamin Wetmore and Patty McMurray, this story came out in August 2023. Wetmore further documented that the local police in Muskegon, Michigan said they had referred everything to the Michigan State Police under the control of the Governor. In response to TGP’s reporting, the Michigan Attorney General said that she had referred the entire case to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and that it was an ongoing law enforcement investigation.
Since the case was supposedly referred, Muskegon Police confidentially told The Gateway Pundit that nothing had happened.
And now we know why: another whistleblower has come forward and said that the case was NEVER REFERRED TO THE FBI IN THE FIRST PLACE.
The many lies by left-wing authorities about secure elections continue to be unpacked and dissected by the Gateway Pundit and other election integrity patriots across America.
This lie is important because it has empowered Nessel and Biden’s administration to cover-up the GBI Strategies/Muskegon voter fraud which threatens to upend the entire left-wing narrative about the 2020 elections being ‘safe and secure.’
Rep. Rachelle Smit tells the Gateway Pundit that this information reached her and, “We are still investigating this, as part of the Election Integrity Committee of the Michigan State House. If true, if this is indeed what Nessel has done, it will be very troubling and I intend to get to the bottom of it.”
Nessel’s spokesman Danny Wimmer lied to Bridge Magazine when he said it was the FBI’s authority whether or not to investigate, knowing all along that it was never referred in the first place.
Nessel said that this was proof that “the system worked” because fraud was detected and referred to authorities. But in this case, the authorities were the corrupt Biden FBI that never took over the case. Nessel could tell the lie knowing that the FBI would engage in the same word games, claiming that they could not speak about ongoing investigations.
A high-level senior source in Michigan law enforcement has told the Gateway Pundit: the GBI case was not referred to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Nessel conducted her own investigation and ultimately determined there was fraud, that GBI Strategies had submitted fraudulent ballots, but said that their motives were only financial and not election fraud.
Since, this senior law enforcement source says, the fraud was just for personal enrichment, their goal was only to make more money, they made the conscious decision not to charge them and the case was not referred to the FBI.
“We seized a mountain of evidence. They asked us to keep it, but the only thing they asked us for were small details of things that we referenced in search warrant applications. Our investigation was officially concluded as ‘inactive’ because we’re holding onto the property, but the Attorney General’s office shut everything down.”
Nessel told the public the investigation was out of her hands and taken over by the FBI, but this is not the case.
Nessel, the source says, concluded her investigation and made her own decision not to prosecute.
The whistleblower says that far-left Michigan Attorney General lied to the public when she said that the case was referred to federal authorities.
The source claims that Nessel closed the investigation years ago and never referred it to the FBI. The issue was that the FBI had ongoing investigations into unrelated subjects and asked for some of the evidence obtained by Michigan law enforcement. They cherry-picked some evidence for unrelated prosecutions.
Nessel took that bit of partial-truth, and used it to tell a larger lie: that the case was under active FBI investigation.
The source also said that in the course of the investigation, it was discovered that GBI Strategies were scanning and uploading all the voter registrations into a dropbox cloud for use by their company and other left-wing allies. The law enforcement source said that this showed, in his mind, that the fraudulent registrations were not being collected for personal enrichment alone, but were part of an overall fraudulent scheme to corrupt the voter registration process in the 2020 election.
“We tried to get search warrants for identity theft, but we were never able to ferret out where all this information was going,” the frustrated law enforcement source told The Gateway Pundit.
The law enforcement source said that left-wing clerks would also not fully cooperate with the law enforcement investigation, and were “less than helpful” in his words. The source said that law enforcement has never done a full and thorough investigation of what happened with the GBI Strategies scandal.
Reporting from The Gateway Pundit showed that Michigan clerks were aware all along that thousands of suspicious voter registration applications were coming in for months prior to the 2020 elections, a regular occurrence that clerks called their “care packages” from Empower Michigan/GBI Strategies, always from hotel addresses.
This also means that Nessel may have been breaking the law by denying Freedom of Information Requests under state law and withholding documents on the basis of an ongoing law enforcement investigation. It also means that her statements could be seen as a form of obstruction of justice, not to mention her massive professional misconduct in bringing felony criminal charges against Trump electors despite knowing they were not legally valid.
TGP’s reporter Patty McMurray did an interview with Rep. Rachelle Smit, chairing the Election Integrity committee seeking these records, and documenting this evidence, with the overall point that “we’re serious.” McMurray gave a rundown of where the GBI Strategies investigation has gone: from the original police report, to a secret Facebook group where Clerks remarked on suspicious ‘care packages’ they were receiving from hotel addresses being run by GBI Strategies.
The 16 Trump electors who have been prosecuted, one of whom, James Renner, flipped on the other electors and has been a cooperating witness for far-left Attorney General Nessel, have not fought these charges on the basis that they are true, primarily because their criminal defense attorneys are a combination of NeverTrumpers and otherwise weak-willed lawyers to do so. Most of the electors lack the personal funds to afford the ongoing defense and to pay for the complex defense. Even though their cases have not gone to trial, one defendant claims to have spent more than $200,000 of her personal funds defending herself. Nessel’s goal is to make the process the punishment, say sympathetic state legislators.
The prosecutions are still in the ‘preliminary examination’ phase where the presiding judge has to determine whether the criminal charges should be brought to trial. The judge has already determined that Nessel’s admission to her far-left funders that the defendants actually believed in voter fraud was irrelevant because it was just her personal beliefs.
This is important because Nessel charged the Trump electors with forgery, and for a criminal to be convicted of forgery under Michigan law, they have to have had the ‘specific intent’ to defraud at the time the crime was committed. Meaning that, when the electors signed the ‘certification of votes’ on December 15, 2020, they had to have known that Trump did not actually win the votes and did not believe there was any voter fraud.
Every single elector has said they believed all along that there was fraud in the 2020 election. On this basis alone, the case should have been dismissed.
Nessel also bragged to her donors that the judicial system in that County was ‘very, very favorable’ to Democrats and implied the Republican electors would be likely convicted regardless of their defenses or evidence presented.
Trump’s corrupt Attorney General Bill Barr appointed another corrupt crony, an Obama holdover named Robert Heberle, who resigned in disgrace from the DOJ in mid-May.
DC U.S. Attorney Ed Martin has been informed of the situation, but he has not indicated if he will be able to take any action.
Rep. Rachelle Smit sent a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi last week, signed by 21 of her colleagues, asking her to investigate the GBI Strategies case, but as of today Bondi has not responded.
The Department of Justice has not responded to a request for comment.
The Michigan Attorney General’s Office Spokesman, Danny Zimmer, has not responded to a request for comment.
Nessel’s record in prosecuting her opponents might be the reason why many in the state legislature are afraid to go after her. Nessel has prosecuted former House Speaker Lee Chatfield, the 2020 Trump electors, and even her prior Republican opponent in 2022.
Nessel’s actions have been scrutinized by state legislators, but she has prosecuted and harassed her opponents and Republicans in other situations. Her 2022 opponent claims that he is also undergoing a current harassment criminal prosecution because of his investigations into voter fraud.
“Dana Nessel is the most corrupt attorney general in the country. She weaponized her office to attack and silence me about the 2020 election. She spread lies and false information to help her win in 2022 and she used her pocket puppets in the Michigan media to continue her attacks. She realized she had a conflict of interest in my case, so she went to county prosecutors and asked them to charge me,” said 2022 Republican candidate for Attorney General, lawyer Matt DePerno, to the Gateway Pundit.
DePerno continued, “When they refused to participate in her vindictive persecution, she selectively appointed her good friend DJ Hilson from Muskegon County to prosecute the case in Oakland County, where he has no statutory authority. They just make this up as they go along. DJ Hilson is the prosecutor who refused to prosecute any election fraud cases in his own county even though there was overwhelming evidence of thousands of illegal ballot registrations. Maybe he refused to prosecute those cases because he was on the ballot. He desperately wants to be the next attorney general in Michigan. He said it’s his life long dream, and Nessel has promised her endorsement if he can get a conviction. That’s why he lied to the courts, he lied to the grand jury, and he intentionally misapplied the law. He has violated his ethical obligations as a prosecutor. He has presented perjured testimony and withheld exculpatory evidence. He may be more corrupt than Dana Nessel. We should expect more from our elected officials. Indeed, our Michigan House should investigate Nessel and Hilson regarding his unconstitutional appointment and improper use of state funds to engage in this lawfare. They should send subpoenas today.”
