Tonight at the State of the Union Address, President Trump awarded the Legion of Merit for Extraordinary Heroism medal to Coast Guard Officer Scott Ruskan.
Last summer, during the deadly flood in Texas, Ruskan single-handedly rescued 165 people. This is a man who deserves this award.
It’s great when Trump uses this occasion to honor such people.
Coast Guard member who saved 165 flood victims: ‘I was just doing my job’
Petty Officer Scott Ruskan is being hailed as a hero after rescuing 165 flood victims during his very first rescue mission amid the catastrophic flooding that struck central Texas late last week.
In an appearance on “Fox & Friends” Monday morning, the 26-year-old Coast Guard rescue swimmer said he and his helicopter crew were “battling some pretty bad weather” for around five or six hours before he was able to get on scene in the Hunt area.
“Once we got on scene, we were boots on the ground,” he said. “We made the decision to leave me there, we figured we would be able to hoist more people out on our helicopter with me not on it and then I would be able to help out the scene at Camp Mystic a little bit better.”
Ruskan added, “A lot of people looking very scared, very tired, cold. Missing loved ones. Probably terrified, honestly. And I was just trying to be a voice of calm and triage these people and get them to safety as soon as we could.”
Ruskan mentioned that other crews were getting into the water on Friday, “risking way more” than he was.
“I was just doing my job,” he added.
If ever a person deserved that special medal, it’s this guy.

Muslima Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) shouted at President Trump during his State of the Union Address on Tuesday evening.
The camera panned over to Ilhan Omar as President Trump called out Somali pirates and fraud rings in Minnesota.
Omar was on the verge of tears as President Trump called out Somalia for its corruption.
“If you agree with this statement, stand up to show your support: The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” Trump said.
Republicans stood up and cheered while many Democrats remained seated.
President Trump lambasted the Democrats for refusing to stand for protecting American citizens.
“[Democrats] are blocking the removal of [illegal alien drug lords and rapists] out of our country and you should be ashamed of yourselves!” Trump said.
“You have killed Americans!” Omar shouted.
“You should be ashamed!” Omar added.
Fellow squad member Rashida Tlaib also joined Ilhan Omar and shouted at President Trump.

In a stunning moment during his 2026 State of the Union address, President Donald Trump turned his attention directly to the Supreme Court justices seated in the chamber, blasting their recent 6-3 ruling that struck down key tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
Trump called the decision “unfortunate” and informed the justices, to their faces, that it had utterly backfired, as his administration’s tariffs on steel, aluminum, and other goods would remain in place without congressional intervention.
“But the good news is that almost all countries and corporations want to keep the deal that they already made,” Trump said, “knowing that the legal power that I, as president, have to make a new deal could be far worse for them, and therefore they will continue to work along the same successful path that we had negotiated before the Supreme Court’s unfortunate involvement.”
Trump said the new tariffs “will be even stronger than before” and “congressional action will not be necessary.”
The tariffs, he explained, should “substantially replace the modern-day system of income tax.”

Cameras captured the awkward reactions from the justices, particularly Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett, who appeared stone-faced and uncomfortable as Trump laid into the decision.
Trump continued, “And I promise you this, within days, not weeks, not months — days — we will have new tariff actions in place using authorities that even the Supreme Court can’t touch.”

The gold medal-winning US Men’s Hockey Team made a grand entrance at President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night, walking in to resounding chants of “USA! USA!” from the crowd — but about half of the Democrats in attendance disrespectfully remained seated.
As the team entered the House chamber, the crowd erupted in applause and chants of “USA.”
President Trump, from the podium, highlighted the team’s accomplishment, joking that “even the Democrats stood up” for these American heroes, though he pointedly called out that not all Democrats rose to their feet.
The team has faced backlash from the left for happily accepting Trump’s invitation to the White House and SOTU.

This is the second consecutive year that Al Green has been kicked out of the State of the Union.
Al Green held up the banner as President Trump walked by.
Majority Whip Steve Scalise ripped the banner down before Al Green was thrown out.
Speaker Mike Johnson ejected Green from the House chamber.
The chamber applauded and members chanted “USA!” as Al Green was escorted out.
