The Iranian Foreign Minister joined NBC News today following the US-Israeli military strikes in Iran.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says a regime change in Iran is “mission impossible.”

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also vowed that Iran will continue to exercise its inherent and lawful right of self-defense until the ongoing aggression by the United States and Israel is ceased “fully and unequivocally.”

Araghchi made the remarks in a letter to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the US and Israel launched airstrikes on different Iranian cities, including the capital, Tehran.

The following is the full text of Araghchi’s letter:

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

Excellency,

I write with profound regret to urgently draw your attention, and that of the members of the United Nations Security Council, to the manifest act of aggression and coordinated large-scale armed attacks perpetrated by the United States of America and the Israeli regime against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Today, 28 February 2026, the United States and the Israeli regime flagrantly violated the national sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran by launching attacks against a number of defensive facilities and civilian sites in various cities across our country. The air strikes carried out by the United States and the Israeli regime constitute a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations and amount to an open armed aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In responding to this act of aggression, the Islamic Republic of Iran is exercising its inherent and lawful right of self-defense under Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations. The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will utilize all necessary defensive capabilities and means to confront this criminal aggression and deter the hostile acts. Accordingly, all bases, facilities, and assets of the hostile forces in the region shall be regarded as legitimate military objectives within the framework of Iran’s lawful exercise of self-defense. Iran will continue to exercise its right of self-defense decisively and without hesitation until the aggression ceases fully and unequivocally.

The United States and the Israeli regime shall bear full and direct responsibility for all ensuing consequences, including any escalation arising from their unlawful actions. In light of the grave and far-reaching consequences of this armed aggression for regional as well as international peace and security, the Islamic Republic of Iran recalls the core responsibility of the United Nations and in particular, the Security Council, to take immediate action in response to this breach of international peace and security resulting by the flagrant military aggression of the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran.

Iran calls upon the Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, and the Security Council’s members to discharge their duties without delay. In this context, the Islamic Republic of Iran urgently calls upon the members of the Security Council to convene, without delay, an emergency meeting of the Council to address the US and Israeli regime’s acts of aggression, breach of peace which is a real and serious threat to international peace and security, and to take the necessary and immediate measures to halt this unlawful use of force and to ensure accountability.

The Islamic Republic of Iran calls on all Member States of the United Nations that bear responsibility for international peace and security to unequivocally condemn this act of aggression and to undertake urgent and collective measures to confront it, as it undoubtedly poses an unprecedented threat to regional as well as global peace and security.

On Thursday, two minor suspects, ages 12 and 13, have been charged in connection with the brutal rape of a 12-year-old girl in Miami.

The two suspects, Jusiah Jones and Nelson Nunez, will be charged as adults.

A third suspect, 15-year-old Xavier Tyson, was also arrested and charged in connection with the rape.

According to authorities, the 12-year-old victim was walking home from a friend’s house last June when Nunez grabbed her and forced her onto a couch as Jones put rocks in her mouth to stop her from screaming as Nunez raped her.

The rape suspects only stopped the brutal attack, which had lasted for over 30 minutes, after they heard the girl’s father calling her name.

Nunez is facing charges of kidnapping and sexual battery on a minor. Tyson was charged with sexual battery, false imprisonment, and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child.

Jones is also facing aggravated battery and false imprisonment charges.

Miami police say a group of boys took a 12-year-old girl to a community garden in the city’s Overtown neighborhood as one of them raped her for 30 minutes.

Authorities said Jusiah Jones, 12, shoved rocks in the girl’s mouth so she couldn’t scream while Nelson Nunez, 13, sexually assaulted her.

A third boy, Xavier Tyson, is accused of participating as well; he was 14 at the time.

While police arrested them on juvenile charges the next day, all three are now charged as adults following a grand jury indictment issued on Wednesday. Court records show they were booked into the Metrowest Detention Center on Thursday and Jones and Nunez appeared in adult bond court on Friday, where a judge ordered them held without bond.

Tyson, now 15, was initially believed Friday to be charged solely as a juvenile, but Miami-Dade prosecutors confirmed that afternoon that he was indicted on adult charges as well.

As the military confrontation between the US and Israel against Iran kicks off, the inevitable seems about to happen: Tehran will try to blockade the Strait of Hormuz and upend the world’s oil shipments.

An EU naval mission official said today that vessels in the area have been receiving VHF transmissions from Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC).

The messages are warning that ‘no ship is allowed to pass the Strait of Hormuz’.

“The strait is the world’s most vital oil export route, which connects the biggest Gulf oil producers, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

The official, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said Iran had not formally confirmed any such order. Tehran has for years threatened to block the narrow waterway in retaliation for any attack on the Islamic Republic.”

At the Munich “Reality Check,” held February 13–14, 2026, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte delivered a blunt message to European leaders and the global press. In a doorstep address at the Munich Security Conference, he said the era of “worrying about the U.S.” must end. Rather than distancing himself from President Donald Trump’s criticism, Rutte credited Trump’s “wake-up call” for making NATO “stronger than ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

Rutte argued that Trump’s pressure eliminated the long-standing defense spending gap that strained the alliance and anchored the United States more firmly in NATO. Allies are now working toward a 5 percent of GDP defense target, agreed upon at the June 2025 Hague Summit, a dramatic leap from the old 2 percent benchmark.

He has repeated this praise throughout the year. At the June 25, 2025 Hague summit, Rutte addressed Trump as “dear Donald” and said, “You made this change possible. Your leadership has already produced $1 trillion in extra spending from European allies since 2016.”

In Davos on January 21, 2026, he said there was “no way” major European economies would have met even the earlier 2 percent commitments without Trump’s sustained pressure. Days later in the European Parliament, he told leaders that those who believed Europe could defend itself without the United States should “keep on dreaming.”

Addressing his viral June 2025 “Daddy” remark, which resurfaced again in February, Rutte clarified that he sees the United States as the “father” of the NATO family and that “sometimes Daddy has to use strong language” to push Europe to take responsibility for its own defense.

While Rutte has found success with Trump, the 5% “Hague Commitment” has created a deep rift within the EU. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has been the most vocal critic, calling the 5% target “unreasonable” and “incompatible with the welfare state.”

Trump’s response was characteristically blunt. He threatened to make Madrid “pay twice as much” in bilateral trade deals if it did not fall in line, underscoring his view that the days of America extending welfare to the world are over.

The Davos event became the turning point in what is now known as the Davos Greenland Framework. In mid-January 2026, President Trump had threatened 10 percent tariffs, rising to 25 percent, on eight European nations, arguing they were blocking U.S. efforts to secure Greenland. Because major missile threats to the U.S. mainland follow a Great Circle route over the North Pole, Greenland provides ideal geography for a second line of defense. Sovereign-like access allows the United States to establish the high-latitude ground stations necessary for space-based interceptors, strengthening Arctic missile defense coverage.

Securing Greenland aligns with the 2026 National Defense Strategy, which shifts U.S. priorities toward defending the homeland and the Western Hemisphere, including key Arctic terrain. The strategy emphasizes guaranteeing military and commercial access across the hemisphere, a modern extension of the Monroe Doctrine often referred to as the “Trump Corollary,” aimed at preventing rival powers from dominating critical geography such as Greenland.

In practical terms, Trump achieved nearly everything he sought. NATO is spending more on defense, reducing pressure on U.S. taxpayers. The United States secured strategic Arctic positioning without purchasing Greenland or assuming responsibility for its civilian governance. By using tariff leverage to achieve military and territorial objectives, Trump demonstrated a model that is now shaping his second-term foreign policy.
