Can peace finally be on the horizon?

While everyone is focused on the Middle East crisis, the War between Russia and Ukraine is ongoing, as brutal as ever.

But today, news arose that a well-placed source in Kiev’s regime has come forward to say that the two countries are moving towards a potential deal to end the conflict.

The top aide to Ukrainian ​President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and now Head of the Presidential Office, broke the surprising news.

Ukraine’s top negotiator with Russia said he sees progress toward a potential peace deal with the Kremlin.

Reuters reported:

“Kyrylo Budanov, a former head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, ‌said that he saw progress towards a deal, but declined to say what a potential compromise on territory, a key stumbling block, would look like.

‘No final decision has been made ​yet’, he said, according to the report. ‘But, in principle, everyone now clearly ​understands the limits of what is acceptable. That’s enormous progress’.

‘They all ⁠understand the war needs to end. That’s why they are negotiating’, Budanov ​said in an interview with Bloomberg on April 4. ‘I don’t think it will be ​long’.”

Budanov earned a reputation as head of Ukraine’s military intelligence until Kiev regime leader Volodymyr Zelensky appointed him as chief of his presidential office.

He’s become a key figure in Ukraine’s negotiating team, with a leading role in overseeing prisoner exchanges with Russia.

Bloomberg reported:

“Budanov acknowledged that both sides have maintained ‘maximalist’ positions in the US-mediated negotiations so far, but said he believes they’ll move closer together in the search for a compromise.

Russia has a clear incentive to reach a deal, he said. ‘Unlike us, they are spending their own money’, Budanov said. ‘These are enormous sums — already in the trillions’.”

“Budanov argued that a key achievement of the peace negotiations was keeping US President Donald Trump’s administration engaged as a mediator. He said Ukraine expects the top White House envoys at the talks, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to lead a US delegation to Kiev, possibly next week, in what would be their first visit to Ukraine of the war.”

The agency that couldn’t stop a lone gunman from nearly taking out President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, is back in the news for all the wrong reasons.

A Secret Service trainee who once worked as an analyst on the presidential protection team has been arrested for allegedly installing a hidden spy camera in his roommate’s phone charger and stalking him for weeks with creepy text messages.

According to ABC News, citing police reports from Glynn County, Georgia, Joel Lara Canvasser, a student at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, secretly filmed his suitemate, another Secret Service trainee, using a camera hidden inside a phone charger he “generously” offered after the victim’s own charger mysteriously disappeared.

Canvasser allegedly told his roommate the “cleaning ladies may have taken it.” The victim plugged it in below the TV, giving the hidden camera a full view of the entire room, and, as it turned out, the bathroom too.

The harassment didn’t stop at voyeurism. Police say Canvasser launched a weeks-long psychological terror campaign, sending harassing text messages from various numbers that made it sound like a deranged stalker was watching the victim’s every move, even when he was in the bathroom with his phone in his pocket.

The victim initially thought his phone had been hacked. He covered the camera with a Band-Aid. He even went to Canvasser, who has a cyber background and was supposedly “good with technology,” for help resetting the device.

After the reset, the phone mysteriously connected to Canvasser’s personal WiFi. The texts stopped briefly… then came roaring back.

It was only when the victim noticed an “unusual glint” on the borrowed charger and saw the hidden lens that the nightmare became clear.

“There was a specific instance where [the roommate] was using the bathroom and his phone was in his pocket. When he finished, he checked his phone and saw a message referencing him using the bathroom. It was at this point that [the roommate] realized the individual was not watching him through his phone camera but instead from another device,” according to the report.

Upon examining the borrowed charger, the roommate noticed it had an unusual glint, and “realized it was a camera,” the report said. “When he had pulled it out of the wall, the light hit the device in such a way that made the lens visible.”

Canvasser’s alleged harassing voyeurism did not stop at the surreptitious filming, according to the report: the roommate told police that “during the past month, Mr. Joel has gone into [his] room on multiple occasions while he’s been sleeping at night. For this reason, [the roommate] has been locking his things up in attempts to prevent these events.”

Canvasser was arrested on Wednesday and charged with unlawful eavesdropping or surveillance. He posted a bond of $8,458.

His security clearance has since been suspended, and his access to all Secret Service systems has been revoked.

Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn called the charges “deeply troubling” in a statement to ABC News:

“An initial investigation by the Secret Service and FLETC led to the individual’s arrest by local authorities. The charges are deeply troubling and raise significant concerns about the individual’s character and fitness to serve. As this matter is now before the courts, we will allow the facts to be presented through the judicial process. We commend the swift actions of Secret Service trainers and FLETC personnel, whose prompt response ensured the matter was quickly brought forward and addressed through appropriate legal channels.”

The New York Times is under fire for its coverage of the savage hammer murder of a mother in Florida by a Haitian illegal alien, downplaying the heinous crime, shielding his immigration status, and complaining about President Donald Trump’s reaction instead.

The article, while blasting Trump for “disparaging comments about Haitian immigrants,” used softened language to describe the crime and did not mention the killer’s illegal status even once.

On April 3, 40-year-old Rolbert Joachin, a Haitian national who entered the United States illegally, brutally murdered 51-year-old Nilufar Yasmin outside a Chevron gas station in Fort Myers, Florida, where she worked as a clerk.

Surveillance video captured Joachin smashing the windshield of Yasmin’s car with a hammer before she confronted him. He then repeatedly struck her in the head with the weapon, bludgeoning her to death in broad daylight.

Authorities said the attack was calculated, and Joachin later told detectives he went to the gas station specifically to kill her.

Yasmin was a mother of two teenage daughters and a recent immigrant from Bangladesh.

Members of the local Bangladeshi community described her as a devoted, kind woman who had been working at the store for only a few months.

Joachin, who is homeless, was arrested the same day with assistance from Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held without bond.

In court, Joachin reportedly confessed to details of the premeditated attack.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Joachin entered the U.S. illegally by boat in August 2022 during the Biden administration.

Joachin was released into the country despite a removal order and later shielded from deportation under the Biden-era expansion of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians.

“This illegal alien barbarically hit this woman in the head multiple times with a hammer. This heinous murderer was RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration. Not only did the Biden administration release him into the country, but they then gave him Temporary Protected Status. Their reckless immigration policies cost this woman her life,” said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. “The arrest of this criminal is an example of how ICE and local authorities can work together to swiftly bring criminals to justice and make our communities safer.”

President Trump shared the graphic surveillance video on Truth Social, highlighting the case as evidence of failed immigration enforcement under the previous administration.

On Friday, The New York Times published an article under the headline: “Trump Posts Graphic Video of Deadly Attack and Rails Against Haitian Immigrants.”

The sub headline read, “The man seen beating a woman is from Haiti and faces a murder charge in Florida, officials said.”

The piece described the incident as a “graphic footage” of a “man… from Haiti” who is “seen fatally beating a woman in front of a store.”

It referred to the crime as “the attack” and focused primarily on Trump’s decision to post the video, his criticism of Democrat immigration policies, and his long-standing push to end TPS protections for Haitians.

The article noted Trump’s “disparaging comments about Haitian immigrants for years” and included claims about lower overall immigrant crime rates nationwide, while quoting immigrant advocates who accused the president of spreading “false narratives.”

Conservatives, including Libs of TikTok, pointed out that the Times avoided terms like “illegal alien,” omitted Joachin’s illegal entry and Biden-era release with TPS protection, and downplayed the premeditated, hammer-wielding brutality by framing the story around Trump’s political motives rather than the victim or the immigration failure that allowed the killer to remain in the country.

DHS has said that ICE lodged a detainer against Joachin, and “he will be deported regardless of the outcome of this case.”

The latest episode of Patriot Perspective examined a rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East, where fragile diplomacy between the United States and Iran is unfolding alongside continued military preparation. 

At the center of the discussion is Vice President J.D. Vance, whose arrival in Pakistan marks a significant escalation in the seriousness of ongoing negotiations.

Unlike previous rounds led primarily by envoys such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the direct involvement of the vice president signals that the Trump administration views these talks as a potential critical turning point. 

Pakistan’s role as mediator remains central. Its geographic proximity to Iran, combined with its relationships with both Washington and Tehran, positions it as one of the few countries capable of facilitating meaningful dialogue between the sides.

However, the episode emphasized that the current ceasefire should not be mistaken for stability. Iran’s agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a chokepoint responsible for a significant share of global oil transit—has been only partial in practice. 

Shipping traffic remains far below pre-conflict levels, and Iranian forces continue to exert tight control over which vessels can pass. This limited compliance suggests that Tehran is preserving leverage rather than committing to a lasting resolution.

That assessment is reinforced by recent comments from J.D. Vance, who revealed that Iran has submitted multiple conflicting proposals during negotiations. 

According to Vance, the first version of a 10-point framework was so unserious that U.S. officials believed it had been generated by artificial intelligence.

“The first 10-point proposal was something that was submitted, and we think, frankly, was probably written by ChatGPT,” Vance said, noting that it was quickly rejected.

A second version, developed through back-and-forth discussions involving American, Pakistani, and Iranian negotiators, was described as significantly more reasonable and aligned with positions referenced by Donald Trump. 

Yet even this progress was undercut by the emergence of a third proposal, which Vance characterized as more “maximalist” than the original. The existence of these competing frameworks highlights a core problem: Iran does not appear to be negotiating from a unified or consistent position.

This lack of coherence complicates the prospects for any agreement. As discussed in the episode, Iran’s incentives remain tied to regime preservation rather than reconciliation. 

The temporary easing of pressure provides an opportunity to stabilize internal political structures and reinforce leadership, rather than fundamentally alter strategic objectives.

Meanwhile, the United States is pursuing a dual-track strategy. Diplomatically, it is pushing for concrete outcomes, including full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and limitations on uranium enrichment. Militarily, it is preparing for the possibility that negotiations collapse. 

One of the most significant unresolved issues is Iran’s ballistic missile program. As highlighted in the episode, these capabilities have become central to Tehran’s deterrence strategy, allowing it to threaten regional infrastructure and global energy flows without resorting to nuclear escalation. 

The absence of this issue from the core negotiation framework reflects a strategic calculation by the United States: pushing for missile concessions would likely end talks immediately.

Ultimately, the episode presents a clear conclusion. The current ceasefire is not a resolution, but a pause shaped by competing strategic interests. 

Iran continues to test the limits of diplomatic engagement while attempting to maintain leverage on the ground. The United States, in turn, is balancing negotiation with preparation for renewed conflict.

Whether these talks succeed will depend less on the existence of proposals and more on whether either side is willing to make concessions that fundamentally alter the current balance. 

The distinction between messaging and substance remains central to effective governance. This weekend demonstrated what happens when that distinction is ignored.

Rep. Eric Swalwell, the frontrunner in the Democrat primary for California governor, is facing explosive new accusations of sexual misconduct from a total of four women, including a former staffer who claims he raped her twice.

The allegations of the former staffer, who was the first to come forward, were initially reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

After the initial article was published, three additional women spoke to CNN and provided evidence about alleged additional misconduct.

The explosive allegations come just weeks before California’s June primary and prompted immediate calls from Democrat leaders, including Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff, for Swalwell to drop out of the race.

The most serious claims come from an unnamed former congressional staffer who began working for Swalwell as a 20-year-old intern on his 2019 presidential campaign and later served in his district and Washington, D.C., offices.

She told the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN that Swalwell had nonconsensual sexual contact with her on two occasions while she was black out drunk.

In 2019, she says she woke up naked in his hotel room with no memory of what happened.

In 2024, years after she left his employment, she alleges that Swalwell raped her.

The woman said she was “pushing him off of me, saying no… He didn’t stop,” and that he left her bruised and bleeding.

Her account is corroborated by text messages, interviews with relatives and a friend, and medical records showing she sought STD and pregnancy testing afterward.

A second woman, who connected with Swalwell online over Democratic politics, told CNN that he kissed her and touched her leg without consent during a night out.

That woman claims she later ended up “extremely drunk” in his hotel room and has little memory of what happened next.

Social media creator Ally Sammarco accused Swalwell of sending her unsolicited nude photos after they connected on X to discuss politics.

“I truly never thought he would respond – I had like 1,000 followers at the time,” Sammarco told CNN. “And he actually responded.”

A fourth woman, who works in marketing, claimed Swalwell sent her “several videos of his penis,” which she said she did not ask for.

CNN reported that it reviewed screenshots of dozens of messages exchanged between Swalwell and the women.

Many of the explicit exchanges allegedly occurred via Snapchat, where messages automatically delete within a day.

CNN reports:

An attorney for Swalwell sent two of the women CNN spoke with cease-and-desist letters on Thursday, a day after CNN first reached out to his campaign to request comment, according to copies of the letters they provided CNN. The letters called the women’s accounts “false,” ordered them to retract their statements and warned of potential legal action if they continue speaking out.

The letters said the women’s claims were “undermined” by their “voluntary and cooperative relationship with Mr. Swalwell over the course of many years” following the alleged incidents, including the former staffer asking him for job references.

Swalwell has denied all the allegations.

In a statement to CNN, Swalwell said, “These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor for nearly 20 years. I have served the public as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and where necessary bring legal action.”

Swalwell’s attorney added that the gubernatorial candidate has “never had nonconsensual sex with any woman or ever had sexual relations with any member of his staff.”

The CNN report added:

But several of the women who made allegations about Swalwell said that the congressman’s actions had long-term implications on their lives, leaving them confused, distraught and scared. They said they decided to come forward after hearing rumors that they were not alone in their experiences with the congressman.

“I always felt like if I came forward, I was going to suffer the consequences because he was so powerful,” the former staffer who accused Swalwell of assaulting her said, adding, “I’ve lived in fear every single day.”

The scandal has already caused visible damage to Swalwell’s campaign.

At least one of his staffers has resigned.

Former Rep. Katie Porter, another contender, called the allegations “troubling” and said she believes the accusers.

The women’s accounts have not led to criminal charges at this time, and no lawsuits have been publicly filed.

Swalwell is married and has three children. His wife has not publicly commented on the scandal at this time.
