Just hours after an armed gunman opened fire inside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, President Donald Trump held a no-holds-barred press conference from the White House late Saturday night, during which he explained that he is “honored,” in a way, by the multiple assassination attempts.

In one of the most powerful moments of the briefing, Trump responded directly to a reporter’s question about why assassination attempts keep happening to him.

“The ones that do the most, they go after. They go after impactful people,” Trump stated. “I hate to say I’m honored by that.”

The press conference took place after chaos ensued at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, where 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, a former “teacher of the month,” allegedly assembled a long weapon in a back room before opening fire near the security screening area.

One Secret Service agent was struck by a bullet but survived thanks to his bulletproof vest.

Trump confirmed the agent’s condition during the briefing, saying, “I just spoke to the officer. He’s in great shape!”

Trump praised the vest for doing its job and preventing what could have been a tragedy.

No other injuries were reported, and Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and all members of the cabinet were confirmed safe and evacuated without harm.

The dinner was cut short, despite Trump saying that he had wanted to return.

For weeks leading up to the event, mainstream media figures had been in full meltdown mode over Trump’s decision to attend the event for the first time in his second term.

Over 250 journalists and press freedom advocates signed an open letter to the White House Correspondents’ Association demanding a “forceful” public condemnation of Trump from the podium. The letter accused the president of “systematic, sustained, and unprecedented attacks on the free press” and called for a standing toast to the First Amendment.

Signers included retired media heavyweights like Dan Rather and Sam Donaldson.

Meanwhile, outlets like HuffPost announced a full boycott, with Editor-in-Chief Whitney Snyder declaring they could not “stomach” sharing laughs with Trump.

Jim Acosta went even further, demanding on his show that reporters “walk the f-ck out” if Trump criticized the press.

Instead of the planned media virtue-signaling and silent protests with First Amendment pins, the night ended with gunshots, locked doors, and a full evacuation.

No motive has been publicly released by authorities yet, but the location and timing has raised serious questions about the toxic environment created by years of anti-Trump rhetoric from the media and leftist politicians.

Mississippi Governor Says He Will Call Special Session to Redraw District Maps After SCOTUS Ruling on Race-Based Districts

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves

The deeply red state of Mississippi is planning to redraw its district map based on the SCOTUS case about race-based districts and this move will benefit Republicans, possibly even aiding the GOP in the midterms.

Governor Tate Reeves made the announcement on Twitter/X this weekend.

This is something that every state should be looking at, especially red states.

FOX News reports:

Mississippi governor says he will call special session to redraw district maps after SCOTUS ruling

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves on Friday said he will call a special legislative session to redraw district lines after the U.S. Supreme Court issues a ruling in a key redistricting case.

Reeves said the session would take place 21 days after the court rules in Louisiana v. Callais, a case that could reshape how states apply the Voting Rights Act.

The case centers on Louisiana’s 2024 congressional map, which added a second majority-Black district and is being challenged as an unconstitutional racial gerrymander.

The outcome could influence redistricting battles nationwide, particularly in Republican-led states, ahead of this year’s midterms.

Reeves said the ruling could also affect a separate Mississippi case requiring the state to redraw its Supreme Court district lines.

That lawsuit, filed by groups including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the American Civil Liberties Union, argues the current map dilutes the voting strength of Black voters in violation of federal law, according to WLBT.

See the tweet from Reeves below.

This is big.

Race-based districts should not exist in the first place. It sounds like something that was dreamed up by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Press conference featuring law enforcement officials addressing the media, with American flags in the background, discussing public safety issues and community relations.

The DC Metropolitan Police announced during a press conference on Saturday night that the armed gunman who opened fire inside the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was a registered guest at the Washington Hilton hotel, the venue hosting the high-profile black-tie event attended by President Donald Trump.

Speaking after the event, interim DC Police Chief Jeffery Carroll confirmed the suspect, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, had checked into the hotel as a guest before the chaos erupted.

Allen was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives when he allegedly assembled a long weapon in an unsecured back area and opened fire near the magnetometers at the security checkpoint.

“He was armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives,” Carroll said.

Carroll explained that the suspect and law enforcement officers “exchanged gunfire,” and he ran through the security checkpoint.

The suspect was shot and taken to the hospital to be treated.

It appears that there is “no reason to believe at this time that anyone else was involved” and that it “does not appear to be any sort of danger to the public,” Carroll said.

President Donald Trump also addressed the shooting during an urgent White House press conference just before the update from police.

Trump confirmed speaking directly to the wounded Secret Service agent, saying, “I just spoke to the officer. He’s in great shape!”

The president repeatedly praised the Secret Service for their quick action to prevent any loss of life.

Allen, a Caltech graduate who earned a master’s in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills, had been working as a teacher and was even named “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024 at C2 Education in Torrance.

No manifesto has been released, and authorities have not yet disclosed a motive.

Quite an evening in D.C. Secret Service and Law Enforcement did a fantastic job. They acted quickly and bravely. The shooter has been apprehended, and I have recommended that we “LET THE SHOW GO ON” but, will entirely be guided by Law Enforcement. They will make a decision shortly.

ERIKA KIRK SOBS As She’s Whisked Out of White House Correspondents’ Dinner [VIDEO]

ERIKA KIRK SOBS As She’s Whisked Out of White House Correspondents’ Dinner [VIDEO]
April 26, 2026

Only 7 months ago, Erika Kirk’s beloved husband, Charlie Kirk, was shot in the neck and killed by an assassin who reportedly shot him from a rooftop overlooking the stage where Charlie was speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Tonight, Erika Kirk, who assumed the role of CEO of Turning Point USA following the murder of her husband, was attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. When several shots rang out from outside the main dining room, guests were seen rushing to take cover under the tables. Erika Kirk, who was seated at the Fox News table, was reportedly especially shaken as she took cover under the table.

Videos are now circulating that show a visibly shaken Erika Kirk sobbing. Erika could be heard crying and telling the young men walking with her, “I just want to go home!” Erika has suffered so much tragedy this year; it’s no wonder she just wanted to get out of that room as soon as the guests were cleared to leave.

Another video shows Erika leaving the venue in tears.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose father was assassinated in 1968 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, shortly after he delivered a speech celebrating his victory in the California Democratic presidential primary, was also in attendance when the shots rang out inside the Correspondents’ dinner.

Here is RFK Jr.with his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, speaking with the media before the event. “He has set EVERY record for transparency in our history. You should appreciate him!” RFK Jr. said to the media as he admonished them for their coverage of President Trump.

RFK Jr. and his visibly shaken wife Cheryl, are seen surrounded by Secret Service as they exit the scene of the shooting:
