The first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday evening from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, produced its share of winners and losers.

Judging by reactions from fans and others, the ESPN broadcast of the event fell squarely into the latter category.

Throughout the night, viewers took to the social media platform X to complain about what one NFL analyst called an “absolutely embarrassing display” from the NFL and one of its major broadcast partners.

X users cited as troublesome the NFL’s decision to shorten the time between picks from 10 minutes to eight minutes. On the face of it, of course, the decision made sense, for it prioritized viewers’ experience. Selections happened more quickly and with less dead time in between them.

ESPN, however, littered viewers’ screens with the usual amount of fluff interviews and especially commercials. As a result, the broadcast fell behind in reporting player selections, in some cases ridiculously so.

“ESPN is so far behind on picks,” former NFL offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz wrote on X. “They’re going to have to figure this 8 min thing out because they can’t be 10+ min behind real time. The whole tipping picks thing is irrelevant when you feel like you can’t be on social media because the TV is that delayed.”

In other words, fans who followed the event on social media knew the selections long before the ESPN audience did.

Likewise, NFL analyst Warren Sharp suggested that perhaps ESPN’s producers “slept thru the meeting where the NFL changed the time between picks to 8 minutes,” calling it an “absolutely embarrassing display.”

Alain Poupart, who covers the Miami Dolphins, blamed the commercials.

“It’s a joke, really … they’re like two picks behind because they have to fill the airtime and get in commercials,” Poupart wrote.

Meanwhile, on Friday morning, Zach Dean of Outkick joked that “ESPN is still trying to catch up on the picks.”

In addition to the broadcast’s molasses-like pace, someone forgot to keep ESPN host Mike Greenberg abreast of transactions.

As often happens, the San Francisco 49ers traded the 27th overall pick to the Dolphins. Miami then used the pick to select San Diego State cornerback Chris Johnson.

Despite the updated ESPN chyron and the Dolphins’ logo prominently displayed above NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s podium on stage, Greenberg still announced the pick as if the 49ers had selected Johnson.

Then, after Goodell announced that Miami had selected Johnson, Greenberg still behaved as if the trade had never happened.

“With the 27th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins select Chris Johnson, defensive back, San Diego State,” Goodell said in a clip posted to X.

“All right, so the California kid stays in California,” the oblivious Greenberg remarked moments later.

Greenberg’s confusion notwithstanding, the Dolphins had a productive night by landing Johnson and Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor 15 picks earlier.

Likewise, the New York Giants snagged a pair of top-10 picks in Ohio State linebacker Arvell Reese at #5 and University of Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa at #10. And the New York Jets maneuvered their way into three first-round selections: Texas Tech defensive end David Bailey at #2, Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq at #16, and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at #30.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Rams raised eyebrows by selecting Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson at #13. Los Angeles already has an established quarterback in reigning NFL MVP Matthew Stafford. And the team came within one touchdown drive of reaching the Super Bowl. Most fans, therefore, expected the #13 pick to be a player more likely than Simpson to help the 2026 Rams.

Of course, fans on social media knew all of this long before ESPN viewers did.

The hits just keep coming for disgraced former Congressman Eric Swalwell.

In addition to facing multiple accusations of sexual misconduct and even rape, he is now facing allegations that he used campaign cash to pay a lawyer representing him in these matters. He also reportedly used campaign cash to pay babysitters.

And we’re not talking about small amounts here. We’re talking about tens of thousands of dollars.

Eric Swalwell Campaign Paid $40K to Lawyer Representing Him Against Sexual Misconduct Allegations, $22K for Babysitters

Disgraced former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D., Calif.) dipped into his gubernatorial campaign’s war chest to pay an attorney representing him against sexual assault charges and for babysitters for his three children, records show.

According to campaign filings released Thursday, Swalwell’s campaign paid $40,000 to Sara Azari, a veteran criminal defense attorney who specializes in “cases where liberty, livelihood, and reputation are at stake.” It is Swalwell’s first payment to Azari; he has typically relied on other lawyers. Azari is representing the former congressman against allegations that he sexually assaulted a former congressional aide and harassed staffers.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office opened an investigation on April 11 after a former aide alleged that Swalwell sexually assaulted her while she was inebriated after a political event in 2024. The same woman accused Swalwell of raping her while she was drunk in 2019. Swalwell suspended his gubernatorial campaign the same day and resigned from Congress on April 14.

In a statement before the ex-congressman’s resignation, Azari said Swalwell “categorically” denied the assault and harassment allegations, calling them a “calculated and transparent political hit job.” Azari said Swalwell would “pursue every available legal remedy” against his accusers.

Swalwell, who was the frontrunner in the governor’s race before the scandal, also relied heavily on campaign funds to take care of his three children. According to campaign disclosures, Team Swalwell paid around $22,549 in 12 transactions to Swalwell’s longtime nanny, Amanda Barbosa, between January 1 and April 18.

At this point, he will be lucky to stay out of prison.

Following a series of social media posts in the days prior, CBS immigration reporter Camilo Montoya-Galvez’s trip to the U.S.-Mexico border finally yielded a formal news segment as, during Thursday’s CBS Mornings, he relayed that “it was extremely quiet” and he has “not see[n] a single migrant” while traversing it by land or water (the Rio Grande) after having seen in the past “hundreds of people” at a time.

Of course, this was all due to the change in posture and surge in resources by the Trump administration. Montoya-Galvez eventually admitted this was because the President made the decision “to effectively close down the American asylum system” and thus discouraged crossers.

Fill-in co-host Matt Gutman tossed to Montoya-Galvez in the second half-hour and minutes after the latter first filed a report fretting about the case of a U.S. Army soldier’s wife being arrested by Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) on April 14.

“[W]e all know that immigration is a hot button issue in America. More recently, it’s been in the spotlight due to the crackdown by masked ICE agents in unmarked cars in cities across the country. But in previous years, the focus on immigration was at the U.S.-Mexico border, where illegal crossings skyrocketed during the Biden administration. Now they have fallen to a 55-year low,” Gutman said.

Another epic battle between Greg Gutfeld and Jessica Tarlov unfolded on The Five yesterday.

Despite all of the evidence that the Southern Poverty Law Center manufactured racism with payoffs, Jessica is clinging to the stupid notion that there are white supremacists around every corner in the United States.

Gutfeld challenged her stupid position and the sparks flew.

Advisers for Bernie Sanders are launching a new organization to reach out to and recruit college students. Apparently, they don’t think that American college students get enough exposure to far left ideas.

Is this the dumbest thing you have ever heard?

In fact, the reason they are doing this is because they are genuinely worried about the effective efforts of Turning Point USA, the conservative campus organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk.

The left sees what TPUSA is doing and it’s scaring the hell out of them.

Liberals launch college project to counter Turning Point USA

A liberal media outlet founded by advisers to Sen. Bernie Sanders launched a project Monday to counter Turning Point USA’s growing conservative influence and presence on college campuses.

More Perfect University, created by the advocacy journalism nonprofit More Perfect Union, will focus on recruiting and training liberal content creators on campuses across the country, organizers said.

“We’ve seen the success of the right, and we aim to rival it by being a thought leader on campuses,” Faiz Shakir, founder and executive director of More Perfect Union, said in a statement.

The group runs one of the fastest-growing, left-wing channels on YouTube and has attracted attention across the political spectrum.

The new effort will have three main components: on-campus events, including live interviews, debates and podcast tapings; a national digital community on email and Discord; and students trained to produce a pipeline of stories for the organization’s online platforms. The organization said it plans to prioritize public and working-class campuses.

Instead of creating local chapters with members and dues, More Perfect Union said the college students will film short videos, make podcasts and report stories in their local communities.

This is utterly pointless.
