Sunny Hostin Lied About Being Holdout Juror Who Kept Cannibal Out of Prison
September 24, 2026

Sunny Hostin bragged on Tuesday’s episode of The View that she was the lone holdout who kept Daniel Rakowitz, the Butcher of Tompkins Square Park, out of prison, but it appears that she lied.

People who sat in that room and the papers that quoted them in 1991 describe an unemployed man who liked the $15 a day and the free meals as the lone holdout in the case.

The Post reports:

But 35 years ago, jurors told The Post, Newsday, the Daily News and the Associated Press that the actual holdout was an unemployed man who wanted to keep the trial going so he could continue getting paid by the court for his civic duty.

A law enforcement source from the time also told The Post this week that the holdout was a man.

“He was unemployed and liked the $15 a day and the three free meals,” juror Valerie Holmes told Newsday in the aftermath of the verdict.

“He liked that we were arguing on and on.”

Holmes reiterated the claim to The Post and The Daily News, describing the holdout as being “very determined” and “manipulative” man determined to get his way.

“From day one, this particular person was determined that the jury was going to find Rakowitz not guilty by reason of mental disease,” jury forewoman Lois Markle told the AP at the time.

Meanwhile, Hostin was quoted as a juror on the case in multiple news clips at the time — but she did not identify herself as the holdout, nor did any of the fellow jurors who talked to the press after the trial.

In a statement to Newsday at the time, under her legal name Asunción Cummings, Hostin also contradicted her current claim.

“We had to compromise. But it is obvious to me he butchered the body and he literally got away with murder. He attempted to commit the perfect crime,” Hostin told the paper.

Hostin claimed she was the holdout during a discussion on The View about the Lindsay Clancy mistrial in Massachusetts, where one juror refused an insanity verdict in the case of the mother who brutally strangled her three children to death.

Hostin said she wanted Clancy to be found not guilty by reason of insanity.

“The reason I felt so strongly about this holdout juror is because I was a holdout juror in the Daniel Rakowitz case. I don’t know if people remember it, the Butcher of Tompkins Square Park,” Hostin said.

Joy Behar asked, “The guy who ate the victims?”

Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “You got this guy off?!”

“That’s how much I believe in the insanity defense. He fed her body parts to the unhoused,” Hostin explained.

“All that being said, it was so clear to me in the jury room. We were sequestered for nine days. One juror threw a chair at me, they were so angry with me. But, one by one, I picked them off. I said, ‘What about this? What about that?’ We ended up, all 12, unanimously voting that he was not criminally responsible on reason of insanity. He is still in a mental institution being treated. That’s a different type of prison, and he’s being treated because he’s sick.”

Hostin said producers checked and found her in The New York Times under her birth name, Asuncion Cummings.

Several jurors told the paper one holdout had blocked a guilty verdict.

“That was me,” she said. “And it was because I saw clearly that he was psychotic; he was in psychosis. He did not mean to kill her, and once he killed her, he panicked. He chopped up her body parts, yes, boiled her body parts, tried to commit the perfect crime, and then he fed her body parts to the unhoused.”

She said the jury was sequestered for nine days, and one got so mad they threw a chair at her.

“One juror threw a chair at me; they were so angry with me. But one by one, I picked them off. I said, ‘What about this? What about that?’ We ended up, all 12, unanimously voting that he was not criminally responsible by reason of insanity. He is still in a mental institution being treated. That’s a different type of prison, and he’s being treated because he’s sick.”

On August 19, 1989, Rakowitz, then a 28-year-old dishwasher and pot dealer in the East Village, killed Monika Beerle, 26, a Swiss dance student at the Martha Graham school who also worked as a dancer and shared an apartment with him.

Police said she had tried to make him move out. Rakowitz told detectives they fought and he killed her, then bought a saw and bags and dismembered her in the bathtub. He boiled bones, he said, “to disinfect them.”

He left her skull in a bucket of kitty litter in a Port Authority Bus Terminal baggage room and led detectives there after his arrest.

A homeless man, Milton Irrizary, testified that Rakowitz brought soup into Tompkins Square Park that contained a human finger.

Rakowitz bragged about the killing in the park and later referred to himself as a cannibal.

Thanks to the holdout juror, the judge declared a mistrial. Rakowitz ended up being sent to Kirby Forensic Psychiatric Center, the maximum-security hospital on Wards Island.

In 2004, a retention jury found him still mentally ill, lacking insight, and in need of inpatient care, but not currently dangerous.

Beerle never received justice.

When the Post asked about the records indicating she wasn’t actually the holdout juror, she laughed and doubled down.

“I was. I was the holdout juror,” she said.

President Trump Didn’t ‘Defy’ Judge’s Order to Restore White House Access to CNN, Politico and MSNOW – Here’s What REALLY Happened
September 24, 2026

President Trump did not violate a federal judge’s order when CNN, Politico, and MSNOW were denied access to the White House on Thursday morning.

Trump last Friday announced that he has banned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico from the White House for constantly reporting “FAKE NEWS.”

The outlets filed suit on Monday and sought an emergency order to overturn the ban.

The lawsuit was assigned to US District Judge Tim Kelly, a Trump appointee.

On Wednesday, Judge Kelly appeared skeptical during a hearing on Trump’s media ban.

A lawyer for the outlets accused the Trump Administration of banning the news organizations “completely out of the blue” and urged the judge to immediately restore their access.

“I think it is fair to say that process … wasn’t followed here, talking about predeprivation process,” Judge Kelly said, according to CNBC.

Judge Kelly concluded the hearing without immediately issuing a ruling on Wednesday.

However, in the middle of the night, the judge issued a Temporary Restraining Order and ordered the Trump Administration to restore access to the affected reporters.

Early Thursday morning, the reporters were still denied access to the White House grounds.

CNN hyperventilated and said the White House “may be in defiance of the court order.”

The outlets on Thursday immediately requested an emergency hearing with Judge Kelly.

In a court filing on Thursday, White House Director of Press Operations Micah Stopperich explained what happened in a declaration.

President Trump did not violate a court order. The judge issued a TRO in the middle of the night at it took time for the White House to update the computer systems and clear it through the Secret Service.

Micah Stopperich explained that White House Operations were notified at 7:10 am to restore access to the affected reporters.

The process of reinstating the badges began at 7:25 am.

The US Secret Service indicated that the badges were back on at 9:07 am and began locating the confiscated badges.

The confiscated badges were delivered to White House Operations at 9:45 am.

The White House press team dropped badges at the entry gate for members of the press to pick up around 9:55 am.

The affected reporters then regained access to the White House grounds.

MS Now reported on Thursday after being allowed back into the White House that the boycott of covering Trump would likely continue until CNN is given more access to President Trump’s restricted press events Oval Office and Air Force One.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC suspended their pooled coverage of the White House to protest Trump’s ban of CNN, MS Now, and Politico from the White House last week.

This backfired, however, opening the door for Lindell TV and Real America’s Voice to take over the White House press pool and broadcast the event to the entire world.

CNN, MS Now, and Politico were reinstated White House access earlier today after a judge ruled around 1 am that Trump’s ban on the outlets was likely unconstitutional and ordered the White House to restore their access.

This morning, reporters were still barred from the White House amid confusion, but they were later allowed onto the grounds.

CNN celebrated the news live on the air after receiving word earlier that CNN correspondent Betsy Klein was granted access again.

But that apparently wasn’t enough for the press corps. That’s fine. Conservative media will fill the void.

“We are all waiting to hear whether or not CNN is going to be given— granted access back into the pool, which they have been a part of. And if they are not, then our understanding is that those five outlets are going to maintain that solidarity and moving in unison and saying that they will not then cover the president in the pool,” MS Now White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez reported during a live shot.

“And so obviously we cannot stress enough how important that access is, and how difficult it is, and how time-consuming, and the resources that it takes for all of those outlets, Fox, ABC, CBS, CNN to do that.”

She further suggested that without the five major networks participating, the public will not be able to see as much audio and video from the President’s interactions with the press before decrying

“I covered the first Trump administration, and now one of the biggest differences with what he is doing to the press— yes, he’s always attacked the press, he has called us the enemy of the people since he came onto the political stage in 2015, but he is now operating and taking direct action and using the full power of the government to restrict press access,” she complained.

“This is an administration, this is a president in his second term who is attempting to use the levers of the government in a way that he didn’t even try to in his first term.”

Democrats Call Trump Weak On China… The Record Says Otherwise (VIDEO)

Democrats Call Trump Weak On China… The Record Says Otherwise (VIDEO)
September 24, 2026

Democrats are trying to sell America a remarkable story: Donald Trump is suddenly weak on China. The record is far more confrontational. Trump reignited the tariff fight with Beijing, imposed new duties tied to fentanyl, maintained pressure over technology and semiconductors, and forced China back to the negotiating table over trade and fentanyl precursor chemicals.

Now, Xi Jinping arrives in Washington for a high-stakes summit, and Democrats are portraying negotiation as surrender. We break down what Trump has actually done, what Xi wants from him, and why China remains one of the biggest economic and national-security battles facing America.

And yesterday’s hearing on men competing in women’s sports exposed another extraordinary divide. Only two Democratic senators appeared. Both left within the first hour, Democrats called no witnesses, and for most of the hearing, not a single Democrat remained in the room.

If you believe your position can withstand scrutiny, why not stay and defend it?

During Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the White House on Thursday morning, Chinese photographers stole the show by clashing with Secret Service agents while awaiting Xi’s arrival and later shoving American reporters as they made their way through the briefing room.

President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed Xi and his wife, Madame Peng, to the White House this morning. Trump and Xi delivered remarks, exchanged gifts, and observed a military review.

The festivities included a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber and F-22 flyover.

This follows Trump’s spectacular welcoming ceremony for the Chinese President on Wednesday at Joint Base Andrews. Trump also orchestrated a B-1 bomber demonstration during an arrival ceremony with cannons, a 21-gun salute, a presentation of colors, the US Band, platoons from each branch of the US military, and American flower presenters.

Ahead of Xi's arrival, Chinese photographers were causing trouble for the American press and Secret Service.

AFP correspondent Danny Kemp shared footage from a confrontation at the South Portico this morning after the Chinese reporters shoved their way to the front of the crowd to get their shot.

Another clip from the Telegraph's Connor Stringer shows a Chinese photographer being physically restrained and then escorted away by two female Secret Service agents.

White House print pooler Kerry Picket reported:

Following a relatively loud disagreement between Chinese photographers, a White House staff photographer and secret service over where the Chinese photographer could set up, the ceremony began.
POTUS and FLOTUS walked out on to the North Portico where a red carpet was rolled out. They were met by Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Madam Liyuan Peng who rolled up in a black suv.

During a later photo op, Trump joked that the Chinese had the friendliest press corps, according to the White House press pool.

Following the events this morning, NTD correspondent Iris Tao shared another video from inside the briefing room where a male Chinese photographer "shoved an American female reporter while rushing through the briefing room door to the Oval Office."
