Andy Burnham Becomes New British Prime Minister Without Popular Mandate, Under Pressure To Call Early General Elections

The British have not voted for Burnham’s ‘back to the 70’s’ state intervention plan.

And so, we’ve come to the day when failing Keir Starmer left his position as premier before two years, and the electorally untested Andy Burnham has become the new British Prime Minister.

The former mayor of Manchester was only elected to be MP for Markham, with a few thousand votes, but now will govern the Kingdom with a whole set of policies that have not been sanctioned by voters.

So, he is inaugurated under mounting pressure to call an early general election to gain a fresh mandate for power.

The Telegraph reported:

“Mr. Burnham – who has promised sweeping changes when he enters No 10 – is accused of lacking a mandate for his plans.”

Unsurprisingly, he has ruled out triggering a snap vote, despite the fact that he demanded exactly that of Rishi Sunak when he took over from Boris Johnson as Tory prime minister back in 2022.

“Mr. Burnham has both promised to keep to Labour’s 2024 manifesto and also signaled an end to ‘40 years of neoliberalism’, the political orthodoxy of the previous Conservative and New Labour governments.

He has also outlined sweeping changes in office, including plans to set up a No 10 North in Manchester to drive his devolution agenda and tackle regional inequality.”

NO MANDATE, NO ELECTION FROM BURNHAM

Burnham wants nationalize utilities such as water, and – of course – raise taxes on the overburdened British people.

“This could include increasing the rate of capital gains tax to the same level as income tax, despite fears that could put off investors and stifle growth in the UK.

[…] Having been crowned Labour leader without a contest and elected to the Commons at a by-election, Burnham has arguably the weakest mandate of any prime minister in modern times.”
