NEW: DHS Shortens Duration of Visas for Foreign Reporters, Students, and Exchange Visitors
July 17, 2026

The Department of Homeland Security announced a new rule on Thursday, reducing the duration that foreign journalists, students, and cultural exchange visa-holders can stay in the country.

The new rule replaces the previously unspecified period of time that immigrants were admitted to the United States, known as “duration of status,” with a fixed number of days they will be allowed to stay.

“This decisive shift restores integrity to the nation’s immigration system, combats rampant visa abuse, and strengthens national security through regular vetting. A fixed period of admission is currently in place for many other types of nonimmigrant visas,” the Department of Homeland Security said.

With the exception of some Chinese nationals on I visas for representatives of foreign information media, journalists from other countries will be granted “admission for a fixed time period until they complete the activities or assignments consistent with the I classification, not to exceed 240 days.”

Chinese reporters face a much stricter 90-day limit.

According to the final rule’s public inspection version, “There were 37,330 admissions for I nonimmigrant foreign media representatives in the United States in FY 2024, over double the 16,753 admissions into the U.S. in 1985 and a nearly 15 percent increase from the prior fiscal year”

It also places restrictions on student F visas and cultural exchange J visas.

Exchange and student visas will only be granted for the duration of their programs, not to exceed four years.

The public inspection version of the rule reads,

In fiscal year (FY)2024 alone, there were over 1.8 million admissions in F status, a dramatic rise from when the legacy U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) first shifted to D/S admission in 1979 and more than an 11 percent increase since FY 2023. For example, in the 1980-81 school year, there were approximately 260,000 admissions in F status. Similar growth in the J nonimmigrant population has also occurred over the past decades. In FY 2024, there were over 500,000 admissions in J status, up over 300 percent from the 141,213 J admissions into the United States in 1985 and up over 7 percent since FY 2023.

“The significant increase in the volume of F academic students, J exchange visitors, and I representatives of information media under D/S poses a challenge to DHS’s ability to monitor and oversee these nonimmigrants while they are in the United States,” it further states.

The amendment to the rule will take effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.

“For nearly half a century, the outdated ‘duration of status’ system has compromised national security and created an environment ripe for immigration fraud,” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement.

“For decades, foreign students have been admitted into the U.S. indefinitely, allowing thousands to abuse our immigration system by perpetually enrolling in courses to avoid having to leave the U.S. By implementing clear, finite limits on these visas, the United States is reclaiming its ability to properly screen, vet, and monitor individuals within our borders. This final rule ensures that foreign students remain focused on their primary purpose: completing their studies and returning home.”

Vice President JD Vance appears on the Joe Rogan Experience

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday assured reporters that Vice President JD Vance and President Trump are “On the exact same page” with Iran after a reporter claimed that their messaging is contradictory.

Vance, who is leading negotiations with Iran, appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast this week and said that negotiations with Iran remain necessary to make a long-term deal.

This was after Trump declared the US-Iran ceasefire is “over” a week prior with harsh words for the Iranians after repeated violations of the memorandum of understanding signed last month. “I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re scum,” Trump said, describing Iranian leaders as “sick people” and “vicious, violent people.”

Vance told Rogan that he gets “frustrated with the people who say you should never negotiate with Iran,” noting that negotiations are needed for a long-term solution to ending the war and ensuring that Iran never builds a nuclear weapon.

“I’m very frustrated by the Americans and, frankly, by people in other countries who are like, ‘You cannot negotiate with the Iranians,’” Vance further noted. “Well, then, what is your proposal to get people to stop shooting at ships in the Strait of Hormuz? You can bomb them, you can take away their radar, you can take away some of their drones and some of their missiles, but it’s just too easy to fire at ships in the Strait, so you’ve got to actually be willing to talk and to try to figure out the problem.”

Still, “once the president makes a decision, so long as I think that it’s you know legal and ethical and all that stuff,” Vance said, “My attitude towards it is I try to make it as successful as possible.”

Vance further defended Trump’s use of the military as a tool to force negotiations with Iran and respond to hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz.

“What the president has done, I think, very, very capably, is said we’re going to use military force in the, in this situation, when it’s connected to something we’re trying to achieve. So, if you shoot at ships, we’re going to shoot at the facilities at which you used to shoot at the ships. But we’re not just going to do something open-ended indefinitely. We’re not just going to bomb and bomb and bomb. We’re going to try to use our military force as one of the many tools that we have to solve the problem,” Vance said, agreeing that it’s “exactly the right approach.”

He contrasted this with the approach of “conservative hawks” like Mike Pence, saying, “If you actually look at what they’re proposing, they just want the military campaign to go on forever, and they can’t actually identify what it is that they’re trying to accomplish. None of them can identify what it is they’re trying to accomplish.”

But the Daily Mail’s Elina Shirazi took one sentence from the interview to assert that Vance’s statements represent a “mixed messaging” and “contradictions” with the President.

Leavitt noted the two statements were made at “different times throughout this conflict” and said that Trump and Vance are “are on the exact same page about where we are right now in this conflict.”

“And the fact that you do see elements of what’s remaining in the Iranian regime that are more willing to make a deal, and then other elements who are not so maybe willing to make a deal, shows that Operation Epic Fury was incredibly effective because we neutered their ability to communicate with one another, and they are a fragmented system,” Leavitt continued.

“They are not the once very strong, powerful terrorist state that they were before this operation, which was one of the ultimate goals. So, we’ll continue to work through the process, and as I said, the president will hold them accountable when they turn their back on the words that they state to the United States, but he is always open to diplomacy at the very same time.”

WNBA Players Openly Announce They Will Ambush and Harass Caitlin Clark at All-Star Game

WNBA Players Openly Announce They Will Ambush and Harass Caitlin Clark at All-Star Game

WNBA Players Openly Announce They Will Ambush and Harass Caitlin Clark at All-Star Game
July 17, 2026

Intense moment during a women's basketball game, featuring players from the Phoenix team and a player from the opposing team on the court.

The world’s most dysfunctional sports league, the WNBA, reached a new low this week.

It’s bad enough that they beat the sh*t out of their megastar player Caitlin Clark on a nightly basis.

It’s bad enough that the referees call fouls against Clark when she doesn’t even touch a player.

It’s bad enough that referees regularly ignore vicious, open assaults against Caitlin Clark on the court.

It’s bad enough that her coach, the Indiana Fever’s staff, and the league give Clark NO support.

But now, WNBA players are threatening Caitlin Clark and will deliver a letter to her on All-Star weekend.

These women are sick and toxic.

Star player Aja Wilson announced this week that WNBA players will confront Caitlin Clark and demand that she denounce her millions of fans for posting nasty messages on their Twitter-X pages.

They want to put Caitlin Clark through a struggle session for something she did not do and is NOT responsible for.

Aja Wilson: It’s just a certain division that needs to be brought to everyone’s attention and understand that this is something that’s been going on. It’s just getting to a point where it is like, alright now, enough is enough. I think it’s a larger conversation that needs to be had that I think is above us and I think that is the part that we really need to get to. So, hopefully, at all-star we can have an opportunity and a conversation because it is time. Something heeds to change.

This is sick.

Caitlin Clark needs to lawyer up against this league for a hostile work environment.

July 17, 2026

Blue Angels pilots whose conduct was being reviewed after a breathtaking “lower than standard” flyover at Pensacola Beach have been completely cleared, the acting Secretary of the Navy announced on Thursday.

The jets sent chairs, tents, and hats flying as they buzzed over the beach, but people on the ground were thrilled.

Video from the beach shows exuberant beachgoers reveling in the incredible moment, cheering, and even jumping up and down as the unforgettable flyover happens just feet above their heads.

WATCH:

Beachgoers also spoke to reporters after the flyover and were ecstatic.

“I’ve been coming for ten years, and I’ve never seen a pass like that in my life. I literally thought we were gonna be taken out by Blue Angels, but it was amazing! That’s exactly how I want to go if it happens,” one woman said.

“All of our tents got knocked down, all of our legs got bent,” another said. “It was worth it. It was awesome!”

More from ABC 3 News:

But the Blue Angels said in a statement on Wednesday, “Team leadership is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the maneuver and conducting a thorough safety review to ensure all operations adhere to strict Navy and FAA safety standards.”

Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao went on to announce the next day on X, “Flight debrief complete. No reprimands. No firings. No problem. That’s the sound of Freedom!”

“Semper fi and Hooyah,” he added.

The Department of War’s communications team further shared a photo of the Blue Angel flying over Pensacola Beach that read “CARRY ON PATRIOTS.”

This comes after South Carolina Army National Guard pilots were reportedly suspended without explanation after flying low over South Carolina beaches and giving beachgoers an unforgettable sight. War Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chief Pentagon Spokesman and Hegseth Senior Advisor Sean Parnell gave the same message after dismissing the investigation, both writing, “Carry on, Patriots.”

EXCLUSIVE | Pro-Trump Sen. Eric Schmitt: ‘We Changed the Rules’ as MAGA Base Explodes Over Pro Forma Sessions Blocking Trump Recess Appointments
July 17, 2026

.

Across X and conservative media, outrage is exploding over pro forma Senate sessions — those 30-second gavel-ins that appear to deliberately block President Donald Trump from making recess appointments.

Disgusting.” “Betrayal.” “RINO.” and “Primary them.”

Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley took the heaviest fire after gaveling one in the day  after Memorial Day. Senators James Lankford and John Hoeven were also hammered for doing the same during the Fourth of July recess. Since Trump’s second term began, more than 30 GOP senators have presided over these empty procedural sessions, convincing many in the base that the GOP Senate is choosing “tradition” over Trump’s mandate.

But one of Trump’s strongest allies in the Senate says the real story is being missed.

In an exclusive interview with The Gateway Pundit, Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-MO, revealed that Senate Republicans quietly changed the rules early in Trump’s second term to smash Democratic obstruction — and insists the pro forma sessions are not stopping Trump’s appointments.

Schmitt said:

When the Democrats were blocking the appointments…we actually changed the rules. So, we can do en bloc appointments now.

It used to be, you had to do one by one. Democrats were dragging that out, and you had a record low number of appointments. Now because we changed the rules to do the en bloc appointments, we are actually ahead of pace than President Trump’s first term…We are getting those nominations through. So, it’s a different process now — we changed the rules. We were… anticipating the Democrats’ obstructionism. We… accounted for that and I think that’s a good development.

Schmitt directly addressed the anger:

No, no. I get it. As one of President Trump’s closest allies, the last thing we want to do is hold up his appointments. So, we are moving forward.

WATCH:

Senate records show Republicans have used en bloc votes to confirm batches of nominees faster than the one-by-one process allowed earlier in the term. However, many high-profile and contentious Trump picks remain delayed in committee or on the floor, contributing to the widespread frustration among the base despite the procedural change.

WHAT ARE THESE PRO-FORMA SESSIONS?

Image

They are brief, often seconds-long meetings where one senator gavels in and out with zero business conducted. The move keeps the Senate technically “in session,” blocking the president’s constitutional power to make recess appointments. Democrats weaponized this tactic for years. Now, even with Republicans in full control, the practice continues — triggering a firestorm from the Trump base.

Voters see senators on long recesses while critical nominees sit idle and deep state holdovers remain entrenched.

‘WE’RE ACTUALLY AHEAD OF SCHEDULE’

The Missouri senator says the shift to en bloc, batch confirmations has Trump’s nomination pace ahead of his first term; Republicans are not sabotaging the President— they’re outmaneuvering the opposition.

Whether this explanation cools the fury remains to be seen.

Congress as a whole and the Senate specifically continue to face deeply negative public views. As of July 16, 2026, Ballotpedia’s polling index showed congressional approval at 26% approve/58% disapprove.

Other polls have been even worse, including an Economist/YouGov poll that found 15% approval/66% disapproval.

In that toxic environment, the backlash over pro forma sessions has hit a raw nerve with the GOP base.
