Trump Among Few World Leaders Standing Against Europe-Style Migration Crisis

Addressing the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York on September 22, President Donald Trump said, “With their ceaseless promotion of mass migration, these globalists are actively destroying the greatest cultures and most extraordinary heritage in history.” He also called out the UN Human Rights Council for criticizing U.S. immigration enforcement.
“They want America to open our borders to gangs and criminals from the world’s most dangerous places,” Trump said in his UN General Assembly address. Departing from his prepared speech text, he added, “They want the worst people to come in from the worst places on Earth, and we don’t do it anymore. We did do it, but we don’t do that anymore.” He said, “There is no human right to illegal immigration, but there is a right to remain a sovereign nation, and we want to remain a sovereign nation, and so should you.”
Criticizing the flood of migrants into Europe and the associated wave of crime, particularly rape, Trump has repeatedly pressed European leaders to tighten their borders. Arriving in Scotland in July 2025, ahead of meetings with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and then-Prime Minister Keir Starmer, he told reporters that migration was a “horrible invasion” and added, “This immigration is killing Europe.”
At the UN General Assembly that September, he told European leaders, “It’s time to end the failed experiment of open borders.” He warned that their countries were “going to hell.”
At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, Trump criticized what he called European capitals’ reliance on “unchecked mass migration.” “I love Europe, and I want to see Europe do good, but it’s not heading in the right direction,” he said.
He returned to the subject in July. Days before a NATO summit in Ankara, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Europe was learning what happens when it admits “Third World criminals.” At the summit, he warned European nations about immigration and energy policy: “If they’re not careful with those two things, you’re not going to have a Europe anymore.”
Trump also singled out Britain. Asked in July about a conversation with Prime Minister Andy Burnham, he said Burnham would have to address border control “because it’s killing your country.” He called migration into Europe “an invasion.” In a later GB News interview, Trump said Britain was “on the edge of disaster” and claimed that someone returning to London after 15 or 20 years “wouldn’t know what happened.”
Spain became another focus after a surge of crossings from Morocco into its North African enclave of Ceuta on July 30 and 31. About 60,000 migrants crossed in the first 24 hours, a number equivalent to roughly 70 percent of Ceuta’s population. The total eventually exceeded 70,000 migrant crossings. Most returned to Morocco, but an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 remained in Ceuta.
Ceuta’s chief prosecutor, Silvia Rojas, reported 23 sexual assaults since the crossings, nine involving children. She also described “an exponential increase” in crimes including sexual assault and violent robbery. In mid-August, police sources told El Español reporters that 15 rape complaints had been filed and two arrests made. According to El Mundo’s sources, three men tried to sexually assault a 10-year-old girl on Lisboa Street.
A 29-year-old Ceuta resident told CNN en Español, “Many women don’t want to, and can’t, go out alone. We have to go out accompanied by men, or we don’t go out at all, and always with spray.” A mother of two girls started a petition asking that Ceuta’s schools stay closed until the city returned to normal. On September 13, women and girls marched through Ceuta to demand more security, saying they were still afraid to go out, especially at night.
Other European governments criticized Madrid’s response. On July 31, Italy imposed temporary travel restrictions on people arriving from Spain. Denmark and Finland considered similar measures. The same day, the State Department blamed Spain’s government for what it called “deliberate efforts to enable and facilitate mass illegal migration into Europe.” It said the U.S. was “considering actions to defend Americans at home and abroad from this threat.”
On August 1, leaders of 22 of the EU’s 27 member states called for an emergency meeting in a letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other EU leaders. They cited “the regularization of very large number of irregular migrants” as a possible migration pull factor. Spain’s regularization program allowed undocumented migrants already in the country to apply for residency and work permits. More than one million applied before the application window closed at the end of June.
Trump described the scenes as an “invasion” at a Cabinet meeting and warned that the United States could face something similar if Republicans lost power. “Remember that picture. That’s going to be us in three years if the wrong side gets in,” he told Fox News.
In September, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Spain had “ZERO control of its Border,” according to ANI. He also told GB News that Spain would become a “ruined country.”
Europe’s crime data supports the concerns Trump raised at the United Nations. In Britain, Baroness Louise Casey’s national audit of grooming gangs, released in June 2025, found that “there have been enough convictions across the country of groups of men from Asian ethnic backgrounds to have warranted closer examination. Instead of examination, we have seen obfuscation.”
Casey wrote that the system “claims there is an overwhelming problem with White perpetrators when that can’t be proved,” and found that police still fail to record ethnicity for two-thirds of perpetrators. In Rotherham, the Jay inquiry found at least 1,400 girls were abused between 1997 and 2013, predominantly by men of Pakistani ethnicity. Nearly two-thirds of the 323 suspects in the National Crime Agency’s Operation Stovewood were of Pakistani background, in a town where Pakistanis are 4% of the population.
The term “Asian,” used by British police and media, groups Pakistanis with Indians, Bangladeshis and Chinese. It has also covered the victims: Casey’s audit calls for investigation into concerns that Sikh and Hindu children were targeted. The audit’s own case record lists the perpetrators by background: British Pakistani men in Derbyshire, Telford, Oxfordshire and Huddersfield; Somalis in Bristol; Turks in Somerset; Syrians and a Kuwaiti in Newcastle; and Albanian, Kurdish, Bangladeshi, Turkish, Iranian, Iraqi and Pakistani men in Newcastle’s Operation Sanctuary.
The Oxfordshire serious case review recommended research into why a significant proportion of those convicted nationally were of “Pakistani and/or Muslim heritage.” Researcher Peter McLoughlin, compiling grooming gang convictions from 1997 to 2018, found that 87% of those convicted had Muslim names. In 2015, West Midlands Police found that 62% of 75 grooming suspects were of Pakistani background, but the force withheld the findings from the public over concerns about community tensions.
The pattern extends beyond grooming gangs. Ministry of Justice figures released under freedom of information requests show foreign nationals accounted for 26% of convictions for sexual assault on women in 2024, and 155 of 720 convictions for rape of a woman, while making up 10.9% of the population.
Foreign-national convictions for sexual offenses rose 62% from 2021 to 2024, from 687 to 1,114, compared with a 39% rise among British nationals. The Ministry of Justice has refused to publish the full figures. When the Information Commissioner ordered their release in June 2026, the ministry appealed.
Sweden shows the same pattern. A Lund University 21-year study of 4,032 men convicted of rape found that only 36.9% were Swedish-born with two Swedish-born parents, compared with 69.5% of the general population sample. The higher odds of conviction for those with immigrant backgrounds remained after controlling for income, substance abuse, psychiatric disorders and prior criminality, and were highest among men who arrived after age 15.
Sweden’s National Council for Crime Prevention found that Swedes with foreign-born parents were five times more likely to be suspected of murder and manslaughter than those with Swedish-born parents.
Police now estimate 17,500 active gang criminals, with another 50,000 connected to gangs, in a country of 10.6 million. Police designate 65 vulnerable areas nationwide, 19 of them “especially vulnerable,” where criminal networks exert control over residents.
In the Netherlands, government statistics for 2025 show 265 registered crime suspects per 10,000 residents among Dutch-born children of two immigrant parents. That compares with 104 among immigrants and 50 among Dutch-origin residents, meaning the second-generation rate is 5.3 times the Dutch-origin rate.
By country of origin, 3.2% of people of Dutch Caribbean and Somali origin and 2.8% of those of Moroccan origin were registered as crime suspects in 2023, compared with 0.6% of the Dutch-origin population.
Second-generation Moroccan-Dutch men had the highest rate of any group, with 8.0% registered as crime suspects in 2021, more than 13 times the Dutch-origin rate. The Netherlands recorded 1,525 bombings or attempted bombings against homes and businesses in 2025, an average of 29 a week, following a 71% increase between 2023 and 2024.
German federal police data tell a similar story. Asylum-related immigrants make up about 3.6% of Germany’s population but 8 to 10% of sexual offense suspects. North Africans from Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia account for 0.5% of that immigrant population but 9.1% of its suspects.
The Federal Criminal Police Office reports that non-Germans have a suspect rate about four times that of Germans. Foreigners are 14.8% of Germany’s population but 41.8% of crime suspects, 38.9% of those convicted and 37.4% of sentenced prisoners, a share that reached a new record in 2025.
Prisons across Europe are overwhelmingly populated by migrants and children of migrants. In the Netherlands, immigrants and their children made up about 71% of the 2023 prison population, with only 29% of inmates of Dutch origin. The number of second-generation detainees held steady at about 7,200 between 2005 and 2023, while the total prison population fell sharply.
In England and Wales, 10,134 foreign nationals were held in custody in June 2026, 12% of prisoners, with Albanians the largest group. In Ireland, non-Irish nationals made up 17.2% of prisoners in September 2024, against 12% of the population. In October 2025, the arrest of an asylum seeker with outstanding deportation orders for the alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl set off a riot outside the Citywest asylum center in Dublin.
President Trump has secured the U.S. border, launched an ICE mass-deportation campaign, and emerged as one of the few world leaders willing to stand up to the UN.
