Update number 2: San Diego police said the threat at the Islamic Center has been neutralized.

NBC reported that one unidentified suspected shooter is deceased.

Update number 3: A security guard was killed in the shooting, according to The New York Times.

The San Diego Police Department was on scene at the Islamic Center of San Diego on Monday afternoon amid reports of an active shooter.

At least two people are dead, and multiple people are injured.

The motive for the shooting is unclear.

The suspect has not been identified.

“SDPD is on scene at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Ave for a reported active shooter,” San Diego police said.

“Please avoid the area. Updates to follow,” they said.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria released a statement on the shooting.

“I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area,” he said.
