FLASHBACK: Resurfaced 2013 Mugshot Shows Radical Rep. Ilhan Omar Arrested and Booked Into Jail for Misdemeanor Trespassing

Just when you thought the radical socialist congresswoman from Minnesota couldn’t get any more unhinged… a 2013 mugshot has resurfaced showing Ilhan Omar looking exactly like the entitled, law-breaking activist she’s always been.

Before her rise to Congress, Omar was arrested in Minneapolis following a disturbance at the upscale Hotel Ivy during a visit by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

According to reports, Omar and a group of activists followed the president’s motorcade into the hotel lobby and refused repeated orders from police to leave the premises.

In the runup to Omar’s first race for Congress, in 2018, AlphaNews reported on her 2013 arrest,

[Then] State Rep. Ilhan Omar was arrested in 2013 for trespassing and booked at Hennepin County Jail “to prevent further criminal conduct,” according to a newly uncovered police report.

The incident took place on January 18, 2013 following an event at the Minneapolis Convention Center featuring former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. The Somali president was set to stay the night at the Hotel Ivy, causing large groups of Somalis to follow the presidential convoy to the hotel, including Omar.

AlphaNews includes a copy of the police report with their story. Omar and others protested Mohamud’s appearance and were ejected from the hotel, en masse. She and a handful of other protesters snuck back into the hotel,

Ten minutes after the original encounter, the officer reports finding Omar seated in a different area of the lobby. According to the officer’s account, Omar “remained defiant” as he informed her that she would be arrested for trespassing if she didn’t leave.

She was taken by the police to Hennepin County Jail to prevent further harassment of the President.

The charges were later dropped, but the arrest remains part of her early activist record—long before she became a high-profile member of Congress representing Minnesota’s 5th District.

The renewed attention comes as Omar faces intense scrutiny tied to a massive fraud scandal in Minnesota involving members of the Somali community, her own district.

Federal prosecutors have charged dozens in what has been described as one of the largest COVID-era fraud schemes in the country. While Omar has not been charged with wrongdoing, individuals connected to her, including a former campaign staffer and others who attended events linked to her, have been implicated, and she has previously returned campaign donations tied to convicted fraudsters.

At the same time, the congresswoman is also dealing with fallout from a major financial disclosure controversy.

Recent filings initially suggested Omar and her husband had assets ranging from $6 million to as high as $30 million, figures that triggered widespread scrutiny.

However, Omar later dramatically revised those disclosures, claiming the numbers were the result of an “accounting error.” Updated filings show assets closer to just tens of thousands of dollars, not millions.
