A college football player in Missouri died moments after scoring a touchdown.

Running back MicahJo Barnett, who played for William Jewell College in Missouri, died moments after scoring a touchdown.

Barnett a junior who was majoring in business administration, was pronounced dead shortly after suffering a medical emergency on the sidelines in the first quarter.

Following the news of Barnett’s death, the game between William Jewell and Fort Lewis College was canceled, with the score being 7-0, with the lone touchdown coming from Barnett.

William Jewell College running back MicahJo Barnett died Saturday after suffering a medical emergency during the team’s season opener at Greene Stadium in Liberty, Mo., the school announced.

Paramedics attended to Barnett, a junior running back, on the sideline for several minutes before taking him via ambulance to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to local reports.

Barnett had scored a touchdown earlier in the game.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with MicahJo’s family, our students, the Cardinal Football family, and the rest of our community during this time of loss,” the university said in a statement.

Barnett led William Jewell in rushing in 2025, and in two seasons with the Cardinals, he rushed for 457 yards and six touchdowns.

Following the news of Barnett’s death, players for William Jewell shared memories they had of Barnett.
