• FBI Director Kash Patel is appearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday morning, where he is facing tough questions about his leadership of the bureau.
• Patel has come under fire for his social media posts in the aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk last week, when Patel prematurely said the shooter was in custody.
• At the hearing, Patel touted the FBI’s role in fighting crime and defended some of his most controversial moves as director, including the ouster of dozens of FBI officials and agents over the past several months.
• The FBI director has also faced criticism about how the bureau and the Justice Department have handled records related to Jeffrey Epstein.
