Rep Lisa McClain talks to Maria Bartiromo on 2/16/25
Rep Lisa McClain spoke with “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo about DOGE and the Trump administration’s policy on transparency.
“I want to get your take on DOGE, the latest. Incredible amount of money missing. 1.9 billion of HUD money was just recovered after being misplaced during the Biden administration through a broken process, they claim,” Bartiromo said.
“How did this happen?” Bartiromo asked.
“It happens because nobody wanted; specifically, the Democrats didn’t want us to see where the money was being spent. Versus President Trump and this administration. This is probably the most transparent administration that we have ever seen. And that’s why you see the Democrats losing their mind because we are actually uncovering all of this waste, fraud and abuse,” McClain said.
“They are actually advocating for us to continue the wasteful spending. It’s just disgraceful and I can assure you under this presidency with President Trump and House Republicans, we will not allow that to continue,” McClain continued.
“Our goal is to make sure that we give the money and the programs to the people who need it most,” McClain said.
“At the end of the day, we are going to get this done for the American people,” McClain continued.
Bartiromo also asked Rep McClain about the budget resolution.
“Is the budget resolution in jeopardy?” Bartiromo asked.
“I don’t believe so,” McClain said.
“What the budget resolution does is merely unlock the ability for us to go into committees to do budget reconciliation, to make transformational change like the President talked about and implement his full agenda,” McClain continued.
Liberal Group Is Planning ‘Not My President’s Day’ Protests Against Trump in Every State
February 16, 2025
The liberal “50501 Movement” is planning to hold “Not My President’s Day” protests in every state on Monday.
The group’s name stands for “50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement.” It is led by people who “have been on the front lines of justice, marching in support of Black Lives Matter, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and disability rights.”
The protests were announced and advertised in a post on Instagram last week.
Organizers claim to be protesting against “the anti-democratic and illegal actions of the Trump administration.”
The group has 102,000 members on their Reddit page and over 7,000 on Discord. It has also been promoted by “Smart Girls,” an organization created by actress Amy Poehler.
“We are going out and protesting because we are concerned by our current president’s actions,” Sydney Wilson, a national press liaison for 50501, told NPR. “We figured it was a nice little punch.”
The report explains:
The first nationwide protest by 50501 occurred on Feb. 5. And while it did not attract the hundreds of thousands of protesters seen on Jan. 21, 2017 — the day after Trump’s first inauguration — thousands of people participated in total across cities and at state capitols, including in Connecticut, Colorado and Hawaii. The organization estimates there were nearly 80 protests across 88 cities.
During those protests, participants called for Trump’s impeachment and removal from office, demanded an investigation into Elon Musk — who is leading the Department of Government Efficiency — and sought the reinstatement of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives that have been rescinded through executive orders.
For the next wave of protests, set to take place on Monday at state capitols again and in Washington, D.C., Wilson says they expect a similar turnout, if not larger than the previous one. Their demands remain unchanged.
The group is specifically calling for Elon Musk’s removal from his role at the Department of Government Efficiency.
“We are still very much calling for the removal of Elon Musk. We find it very concerning that there is a non-government official that has the access that he does,” Wilson stated. “And we would like to see the strengthening of anti-discrimination legislation.”
