Fired CBS host Stephen Colbert threw a tantrum and lashed out at President Trump last night after getting fired.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, CBS canceled The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last Thursday for financial reasons, especially given the low ratings. The show will end after the next season in May 2026.

The following day, Trump celebrated the news while mocking Colbert’s low ratings.

“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Colbert expressed confusion over being fired for financial reasons, pointing out that The Late Show is currently No. 1 in ratings and suggesting an ulterior motive.

“Over the weekend, someone at CBS followed up their gracious press release, followed up with a gracious anonymous leak saying, ‘They pulled the plug on our show because of losses pegged between $40 million and $50 million a year.” $40 million is a big number. I could see us losing $24 million, but where would Paramount have possibly spent the other $16 million?” Colbert said, referencing Paramount’s decision to settle a lawsuit with the Trump Administration over the editing of Kamala Harris’s 60 Minutes interview.

“Over the weekend, it sunk in that they’re killing off our show, but they made one mistake: They left me alive. And now, for the next 10 months, the gloves are off,” Colbert boasted.

After reading off Trump’s Truth Social post, which responded to his termination, Colbert lost his temper.

How dare you, sir?! Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?” Colbert fired back. “Go f**k yourself!”

Colbert’s audience burst out in wild applause at his childish outburst.

Colbert then went on to read Trump’s prediction that Jimmy Kimmel was next, and responded with pure vanity.

“Kimmel, I am the martyr. There’s only room for one on this cross. And the view is fantastic from up here. I can see your house,” he quipped.

President Trump is hosting Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. this afternoon at the White House amid Trump’s threat to impose 20% tariffs on imports from the Southeast Asian island nation.

Marcos also met with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth this morning to discuss the military alliance between the United States and Philippines, as well as China.

Trade will be the top item on the agenda for Marcos’s meeting with the President of the United States.

In a letter, dated July 9, Trump put President Marcos on notice of the “significant Trade Deficit,” warning that tariffs of 20% will be charged starting on August 1, unless Philippine companies build and manufacture in the United States or the Philippines reduces trade barriers.

“If for any reason you decide to raise your Tariffs, then, whatever the number you choose to raise them by, will be added onto the 20% that we charge,” President Trump warned.

“If you wish to open your heretofore closed Trading Markets to the United States, and eliminate your Tariff, and Non-Tariff, Policies and Trade Barriers, we will, perhaps, consider an adjustment to this letter.”

“My top priority for this visit is to push for greater economic engagement, particularly through trade and investment, between the Philippines and the United States,” Marcos said, according to the Hill.

The bilateral meeting is scheduled to begin at 11:15 am ET.

Later, this evening, President Trump is scheduled to participarte in a reception with Congressional Republicans.

Japan’s Defense White Paper Echoes U.S. View: China the Greatest Threat

Japan’s Defense White Paper Echoes U.S. View: China the Greatest Threat

Japan’s latest defense white paper warns that China poses the greatest strategic threat in the Asia-Pacific, citing Beijing’s rapidly expanding military capabilities and increasingly assertive behavior. The report highlights China’s growing navy, vast missile arsenal, and nuclear ambitions, as well as its aggressive actions near Taiwan and the disputed Senkaku Islands. Japan’s Defense Ministry expressed alarm over frequent Chinese coast guard patrols, spy plane incursions, and warship movements near Japanese territory.

This assessment mirrors the stance of U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who stated, “There’s no reason to sugarcoat it: the threat China poses is real, and it could be imminent.” Speaking on Beijing’s military build-up, Hegseth warned that China is “credibly preparing to use military force to alter the balance of power in the Indo-Pacific” and made clear that if deterrence fails, the U.S. is “prepared to fight and win, decisively.”

Though he stressed that Washington does not seek conflict with Communist China, he affirmed that the U.S. “will not be pushed out of this critical region” or allow its allies to be “subordinated and intimidated.” He further cautioned that a Chinese attack on Taiwan would bring “devastating consequences” for the entire world.

Japanese authorities and military planners have concluded in recent years that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan could qualify as a “survival-threatening situation,” triggering a Japanese military response under the country’s collective self-defense framework.

Japan’s 2025 Defense White Paper presents a stark assessment of the current security landscape, declaring that the international community is facing its greatest trial since World War II and that Japan is confronting “the most severe and complex security environment of the post-war era.”

The report explicitly identifies China’s external posture and military activities as “an unprecedented and the greatest strategic challenge” that must be addressed through Japan’s comprehensive national power. For over 30 years, China has sustained rapid defense budget growth with little transparency, fueling broad military modernization across its nuclear, missile, naval, and air forces.

The white paper cites specific incidents illustrating China’s escalating assertiveness. In August 2024, a Chinese military aircraft violated Japan’s territorial airspace, followed by a Chinese Navy aircraft carrier operating near Japanese waters in September. Most alarming was a May 2025 incident in which a helicopter from a China Coast Guard vessel intruded into Japanese airspace near the Senkaku Islands, an act officials described as part of China’s “relentless” effort to unilaterally alter the status quo by force.

China’s military activities now extend well beyond Japan’s immediate vicinity. The white paper notes intensified operations from the East China Sea to beyond the first and second island chains. In the South China Sea, China continues building military bases based on claims that defy established maritime norms. Around Taiwan, repeated PLA drills appear aimed at creating a fait accompli and sharpening real combat readiness.

The report also highlights growing China-Russia defense cooperation, including joint bomber flights and naval patrols near Japan, which are viewed as deliberate shows of force. It further underscores the escalating U.S.-China rivalry and warns that the military balance is tilting rapidly in Beijing’s favor. Analysts fear China may attempt unification with Taiwan through gray-zone tactics such as intimidation, coercion, or blockades.

In response, Japan is raising defense spending, enhancing counterstrike capabilities, and deepening ties with the U.S. and other partners. It is developing “future core defense capabilities,” including stand-off weapons, Integrated Air and Missile Defense, unmanned systems, and cross-domain operations.

Beyond U.S. cooperation, Japan launched the “OCEAN” initiative (One Cooperative Effort Among Nations) to promote multilateral defense partnerships across the Indo-Pacific. And Japan plans to raise defense spending to 2% of GDP by 2027.

China condemned the white paper, accusing Japan of exaggerating the “China threat.” State media criticized the release of a children’s version as politically manipulative and inappropriate. The booklet, which portrays neighboring countries like China as military threats, was distributed to over 2,400 elementary schools, marking the first time such material was sent directly to children.

The CCP and Xinhua claimed the move incites hostility among youth, while Japanese scholars and civil groups warned it could promote nationalism and militarism. Critics also argue it downplays Japan’s wartime history and presents the Self-Defense Forces in an overly positive light. However, this criticism misses the point.

A defense white paper is intended to identify national security threats, China, in this case, and outline military responses. A historical accounting of Japan’s past war crimes would not have served that strategic purpose.

Some Japanese citizens worry that recent moves signal a rearming of the military and a broader rightward shift in defense policy. Beijing quickly amplified these concerns, with state media highlighting protests and criticism from educators. According to CCP media, opponents argue that distributing the children’s version of the white paper fosters fear and bias in young minds, undermining peace, critical thinking, and historical awareness. Some have even called for the material to be withdrawn.

Beijing’s criticism only underscores the urgency for both the U.S. and Japan to prepare for the possibility of war with China.

The Empty Outrage Over Medicaid Cuts

The Empty Outrage Over Medicaid Cuts

Democrats bemoaning the loss of Medicaid coverage are glossing over a critical fact: States could fund the program themselves if they wanted to. The truth is, Medicaid is not nearly as popular as the taxes needed to keep it afloat.

There is a lot to complain about Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill (BBB), signed into law last week. For example, it will add trillions to the deficit while allocating billions to be used for deporting hard-working immigrants and even American citizens. Yet Democrats are denouncing it not for its lack of fiscal responsibility, but rather for one of its only positive provisions: its reforms to Medicaid.

Original versions of the bill included various reforms to Medicaid, like work requirements for some able-bodied adults and provisions limiting funds for undocumented immigrants and gender transition procedures. To this, Democrats responded with instant outrage: “Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of kids, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities in our states and nationwide. Republicans’ proposed cuts would be disastrous.”

The final version of the bill eliminated some of the more thorny cost-saving provisions while keeping the work requirements in place. Yet Democrats are still dissatisfied with the bill, with California Gov. Newsom claiming that “the President and his MAGA enablers are ripping care from cancer patients, meals from children, and money from working families.”

You can tell this is nothing more than political posturing because there are no cuts to Medicaid to begin with. The OBBB only reduces the rate of growth of Medicaid spending, but the overall cost of the program to taxpayers will continue to increase. Cutting means getting rid of something, not reducing the rate at which you add stuff.

Maybe we should not be too hard on the semantics. After all, Americans have very little experience with Medicaid cuts. Throughout its 60-year history, the only time Medicaid spending was truly cut was in 2006, by a mere 0.25%. This should come as no surprise since Medicaid promotes excessive spending by design.

Medicaid is structured in such a way that for every $1 that states spend on Medicaid, the Federal government matches it by up to $9. This design allows state politicians to grant their constituents $10 in political goodies (Medicaid) while only incurring $1 of political cost (higher taxes). Where does the rest of that money come from? Federal taxes and debt.

Now that Washington is cutting back its match rate, this windfall of benefits without costs to states will slow down. States must choose between filling the funding gap themselves (by raising taxes) or reducing coverage. State officials (many of whom will be facing reelection in the next few years) would rather do neither and keep this party going.

Why not increase taxes and keep current coverage levels? Medicaid is an incredibly expensive program. States are already spending around a third of their budgets on it, and with healthcare costs outpacing inflation, this figure is expected to increase. With tax rates already among the nation’s highest, blue states have little room to fill the gap.

In a free market, consumers only purchase a product if they perceive its value to be greater than its price. The reason voters in blue states would reject higher taxes to pay for Medicaid is simply because they value their incomes more than they value the program. Even if you offered the average Medicaid enrollee 20 to 50 cents on the dollar for the benefits they receive, they would rather take the cash.

The biggest winners from Medicaid might not be those receiving care, but rather those providing it. Research suggests that up to 60% of all Medicaid spending acts as a direct transfer to medical providers, like hospitals. With the health sector dominating the lobbying expenditures of the last 27 years, this outburst of outrage from Democrats might be fueled by more than good intentions.

The BBB falls short on almost every front, but reducing the growth rate of a wasteful and distortive government program like Medicaid is a step in the right direction. If it pulls blue states (kicking and screaming) into being more fiscally responsible with all of our tax dollars, all the better.
