A horrifying failure of state “oversight” led to the death of a 3-year-old boy after he was abandoned for five hours inside a sweltering vehicle by a child welfare contractor hired by the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR).

Ke’Torrius “KJ” Starks Jr. was taken from his family and placed into the care of a foster system that was supposed to protect him.

He was picked up from daycare at 9:00 a.m. for a court-ordered supervised visit with his biological father, which ended at 11:30 a.m., according to People.

Instead of returning him to daycare, he was allegedly abandoned in a hot car for five hours while a DHR contract worker ran errands for herself—including picking up food for her family and shopping at a tobacco store, according to the family’s attorney.

The incident took place Tuesday in Birmingham as temperatures soared above 100 degrees.

The heat index reached 108°F, meaning the temperature inside the vehicle likely exceeded a deadly 150°F, according to attorney Courtney French.

French says that the worker, who was employed to do transport through Covenant Services Inc., went Tuesday morning to pick KJ up from a child care center to bring him for a supervised visit with his dad.

Afterward, however, the worker did not bring the boy back to his center and instead decided “to run numerous personal errands with KJ still in a car seat in the back,” French claims. The stops including getting food and going to a tobacco shop.

The employee then went home but KJ was left in the car, according to French.

“The safety net that should have been in place to protect KJ and others like him is what caused his death,” French says. “So the very system that is in place for his protection was the system that led to his death — and that’s what’s so tragic about this.”

DHR says, “A child in DHR custody was being transported by a contract provider,” and confirmed the provider has fired the employee—yet refuses to disclose identity, safety protocols, or any meaningful accountability, citing confidentiality laws.

A Southwest flight that departed Burbank, California, en route to Las Vegas, Nevada, nosedived to avoid a mid-air collision on Friday.

Two flight attendants were injured after the plane quickly descended to avoid colliding with a Hawker Hunter.

“The other plane, a Hawker Hunter with the N number N335AX, was at an altitude of approximately 14,653 feet when the Southwest flight began to descend,” ABC News reported.

Passengers reportedly flew out of their seats.

A Southwest flight rapidly descended 475 feet to avoid a Hawker Hunter aircraft on Friday, according to flight tracking data and passengers on the plane.

About six minutes after Southwest flight 1496 took off from Hollywood Burbank Airport in Los Angeles County, it abruptly descended from 14,100 feet to 13,625 feet, according to flightRadar24.

Steve Ulasewicz, a passenger on the flight who said that they experienced what felt like a “significant drop,” told ABC News the pilot announced that they had performed the maneuver to “avoid a midair collision.”

Southwest Airlines said in a statement that two flight attendants are being treated for injuries after the incident.

A terrified passenger described what happened the moment the Southwest plane quickly descended to avoid collision.

“About 10 minutes into the flight, we plummeted pretty far, and I looked around, and everyone was like, ‘OK, that’s normal’,” one passenger said in a video posted by Fox News.

“Then, within two seconds, it felt like the ride Tower of Terror, where we fell 20 to 30 feet in the air. The screaming, it was terrifying. We really thought we were plummeting to a plane crash,” she said.

President Trump said on Friday that he is considering giving taxpayers a rebate due to the billions (or trillions) of dollars the United States is set to make from Tariffs and deals with trading partners. 

“We have so much money coming in from tariffs that a little rebate for people of a certain income level might be very nice,” he said. “The big thing we want to do is pay down debt. But we’re thinking about a rebate.”

Trump spoke to reporters this morning about his August 1 trade deadline, where he plans to impose steep tariffs on countries that do not make a deal with the United States.

Already, the President has announced several deals following a plethora of letters he sent to foreign leaders, outlining the deadline and current tariffs countries will face.

On Tuesday, Trump announced that Japan, Indonesia, and the Philippines had agreed to open their markets to U.S. trade, with Indonesia and the Philippines agreeing to eliminate tariffs on U.S. goods.

Japan agreed to invest $550 billion in the United States, “which will receive 90% of the Profits,” Trump said in a statement. Additionally, Japan will still pay 15% tariffs on imports to the United States.

Earlier this month, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a cabinet meeting earlier this month that he estimates the United States will take in “well over $300 billion" from tariffs "by the end of the year.”

Days later, new budget data showed that tariff revenues as a share of federal revenue had more than doubled, and tariffs created a surplus as opposed to a $71 billion deficit in June 2024 under Biden. U.S. customs duty collections for fiscal year 2025 had already topped $100 billion for the first time in history, with several months still to go.

Now, one week away from the August 1 deadline, Trump says American taxpayers "of a certain income level" might get a rebate as the President has already snagged well over $5 trillion in foreign and private manufacturing, AI, and energy investments in addition to the massive tariff revenue.

Trump has previously suggested that his External Revenue Service will focus on "people making less than $200,000 a year,” indicating that taxation could be “completely eliminated” for this income bracket. The External Revenue Service, which Trump announced on January 14, 2025, will “collect our Tariffs, Duties, and all Revenue that come from Foreign sources,” he said.

"Our country was a dead country. Was a dead country one year ago. Now we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. And don't you feel it?" Trump said to reporters at the White House.

Reporter: When you send out those letters, do you believe that will bring some certainty to the financial markets?

Trump: When those letters, when those letters go out— they're a page and a half, that means they have a deal, it's done, they pay that tariff, and that is a contract, essentially. And they can come into the country, they're going to pay a tariff. I'm going to keep it minimal. I'm going to keep it, you know, I'm not looking to hurt countries. I could do that too, but I'm not looking to do that. But when that letter goes out, that's a deal, and we'll be sending maybe close to 200 of those letters out. Don't forget, we have a lot of countries, so we're going to be sending out almost 200 of those letters. But once those letters go out, we have a deal. Now, we sent some to— we sent one to Japan, we sent one to EU, and they came back and negotiated a deal. I think EU has got a pretty good chance of making a deal.

Our country was a dead country. Was a dead country one year ago. Now we have the hottest country anywhere in the world. And don't you feel it?

Reporter: With all of that, revenue coming in tens and tens of billions of dollars, do you think there is the possibility of a rebate to the American public in terms of all of that money?

Trump: We're thinking about that actually. We have so much money coming in, we're thinking about a little rebate, but the big thing we want to do is pay down debt. But we're thinking about a rebate. A federal judge on Friday blocked President Trump’s birthright citizenship order in a third ruling since the Supreme Court restricted nationwide injunctions.

US District Judge Leo Sorokin, an Obama appointee, blocked President Trump’s executive order nationwide.

Sorokin’s ruling comes after another district court and a three-judge panel on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Trump’s birthright citizenship order.

The US Supreme Court recently restricted lower courts from issuing nationwide injunctions.

The AP reported:

A federal judge on Friday blocked the Trump administration from ending birthright citizenship for the children of parents who are in the U.S. illegally, issuing the third court ruling blocking the birthright order nationwide since a key Supreme Court decision in June.

U.S. District Judge Leo Sorokin, joining another district court as well as an appellate panel of judges, found that a nationwide injunction granted to more than a dozen states remains in force under an exception to the Supreme Court ruling. That decision restricted the power of lower-court judges to issue nationwide injunctions.

The states have argued Trump’s birthright citizenship order is blatantly unconstitutional and threatens millions of dollars for health insurance services that are contingent on citizenship status. The issue is expected to move quickly back to the nation’s highest court.

Several federal judges have blocked President Trump’s birthright citizenship executive order.

According to President Trump’s order, the 14th Amendment is being misinterpreted by the left to give citizenship to ‘anchor babies.’

“It is the policy of the United States that no department or agency of the United States government shall issue documents recognizing United States citizenship, or accept documents issued by State, local, or other governments or authorities purporting to recognize United States citizenship, to persons: (1) when that person’s mother was unlawfully present in the United States and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth, or (2) when that person’s mother’s presence in the United States was lawful but temporary, and the person’s father was not a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident at the time of said person’s birth,” Trump’s order stated.

Trump’s order argued the 14th Amendment has always excluded babies born to people in the US illegally.

“[The] Fourteenth Amendment has never been interpreted to extend citizenship universally to everyone born within the United States. The Fourteenth Amendment has always excluded from birthright citizenship persons who were born in the United States but not “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Consistent with this understanding, the Congress has further specified through legislation that “a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof” is a national and citizen of the United States at birth, 8 U.S.C. 1401, generally mirroring the Fourteenth Amendment’s text,” the order stated.

Second Medical Worker Arrested in Case of California Surgical Center Staff Tring to Block ICE Arrest of Illegal Alien

Fox News reporters Matt Finn and Bill Melugin each reported Friday afternoon on the arrest by federal authorities of a second medical worker with the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center for allegedly interfering with ICE agents as they tried to arrest an illegal alien on July 8 in Ontario, California.

Danielle Nadine Davila reportedly turned herself in on Friday after a fellow medical worker, Jose de Jesus Ortega, was arrested early Friday morning.

The case drew national attention as supporters of mass illegal immigration spread a lie that the illegal alien was arrested while at a doctor’s appointment, when in fact he was outside when agents tried to apprehend him and ran inside the medical building with help from the staff who then tried to block the ICE agents.

Matt Finn posted on X, “UPDATE: female medical worker who appeared to block ICE arrest on camera just surrendered to federal authorities. That marks the second arrest for the day from this viral video.”

“NOW: female CA medical worker seen in viral video appearing to a block ICE arrest, just surrendered to federal authorities, per federal source. Her male counterpart, also seen in the video, was arrested earlier this morning.”

Bill Melugin reported, “BREAKING: I’m told by federal law enforcement sources that the female medical worker, DANIELLE NADINE DAVILA, was just arrested by HSI agents and is now in federal custody. She is also charged with 18 USC 111, assaulting/resisting/impeding federal agents.”

Interim U.S. Attorney for Los Angeles Bill Essayli commented earlier Friday on the charges in the case:

My office has filed federal criminal charges against Jose de Jesus Ortega, 38, of Highland, and Danielle Nadine Davila, 33, of Corona, who are accused of assaulting and interfering with an ICE investigation earlier this month at a surgery center in San Bernardino County.

The media originally reported that the illegal alien was taken during a medical appointment. That was false. The illegal alien arrested inside the surgery center was not a patient. He ran inside for cover and these defendants attempted to block his apprehension by assaulting our agents.

It doesn’t matter who you are or where you work, if you assault our agents or otherwise interfere with our operations, you will be arrested and charged with a federal crime.

Essayli spoke on Friday with Melugin about the case before the second worker was arrested:

“The politicians in California have emboldened people to stand up to ICE, they think it’s okay to interfere or obstruct,” Essayli said. “We’ve said this over and over again, if you get in our way, if you lay a hand on a federal agent, you will be arrested and you will be charged.”

I asked if these federal charges are too heavy handed for these medical workers?

“No, it’s the opposite,” Essayli told me. “We have to charge these cases. We have to set an example. We have to enforce the rule of law. Federal agents are off limits. Do not touch them.”

THE FACTS: ICE officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation to arrest two illegal aliens. Officers in clearly marked ICE bullet proof vests approached the illegal alien targets as they exited a vehicle.

One of the illegal aliens, Denis Guillen-Solis who is from Honduras, fled on foot to evade law enforcement. He ended up near the Ontario Advanced Surgical Center where hospital staff assaulted law enforcement and drug the officer and illegal alien into the facility.

Then, the staff attempted to obstruct the arrest by locking the door, blocking law enforcement vehicles from moving, and even called the cops claiming there was a “kidnapping.”
