“This Isn’t About Politics – It’s About Reality” – Bed Bath and Beyond’s CEO Announces Company is Closing All Retail Stores in Newsom’s California – Newsom’s Press Office Releases Sneering Response

“This Isn’t About Politics – It’s About Reality” – Bed Bath and Beyond’s CEO Announces Company is Closing All Retail Stores in Newsom’s California – Newsom’s Press Office Releases Sneering Response
August 20, 2025

Bed Bath and Beyond’s Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis announced on Wednesday that the company is closing all retail stores in Governor Newsom’s California.

Lemonis added, “This isn’t about politics – it’s about reality. California’s system makes it nearly impossible for businesses to succeed, and I won’t put our company, our employees, or our customers in that position.”

Bed Bath and Beyond will continue to ship to customers but is cutting out the overregulated, expensive, and risky environments for businesses in the state.

Here is the statement Marcus Lemonis posted on X earlier today.

Statement from Marcus Lemonis, Executive Chairman of Bed Bath & Beyond

We will not open or operate retail stores in California.

This decision isn’t about politics — it’s about reality.

California has created one of the most overregulated, expensive, and risky environments for businesses in America. It’s a system that makes it harder to employ people, harder to keep doors open, and harder to deliver value to customers.

The result? Higher taxes, higher fees, higher wages that many businesses simply cannot sustain, and endless regulations that strangle growth. Even when the state announces a budget surplus, it’s built on the backs of ordinary citizens who are paying too much and businesses who are squeezed until they break.

At Bed Bath & Beyond, our responsibility is to our customers and our shareholders. We will not participate in a system that undermines both. Instead, we are investing in a California strategy that works: 24 48 hour delivery, and in many cases, same-day service. Californians will continue to get the products they love through BedBathandBeyond.com

— but without the inflated costs created by an unsustainable model.

We’re taking a stand because it’s time for common sense.

Businesses deserve the chance to succeed. Employees deserve jobs that last. And customers deserve fair prices.

California’s system delivers the opposite. That’s why Bed Bath & Beyond will serve California customers directly through BedBathandBeyond.com, on our terms, and with their best interests at heart.

Gavin Newsom’s press office released a sneering response to Bed, Bath and Beyond after their announcement, saying, “We thought Bed, Bath, and Beyond no longer existed.”

Here is a screengrab in case Newsom’s team removes this disparaging response.

VP Vance Reportedly Forced UK’s Censorship-Mad Starmer to Drop Demand for ‘Backdoor’ Access to iPhones
August 20, 2025

VP Vance reportedly ‘forced’ UK PM Starmer to drop demands for acess to iPhone encrypted messages.

Vance is spreading the Trump gospel of freedom of speech and respect for Americans’ privacy.

Vice-President JD Vance continues his work enforcing Donald J. Trump’s policies and principles in close negotiations with ‘allies’ like the United Kingdom.

Now, the British press is reporting that Vance ‘forced’ Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Government to drop its demand for ‘backdoor’ access to users’ iPhone messages.

The Telegraph reported:

“The vice-president personally intervened to stop the Government from forcing Apple to remove its end-to-end encryption which protects users’ privacy.”

If Apple complied, UK officials would access an iPhone owner’s photos and messages ‘if they were suspected of a crime’.

Vance, who has led the US fight against government overreach and censorship in Britain, pressured senior UK officials to drop the plan.

“The VP took a strong interest in this issue because of his background in technology, his concern for privacy, and his sincere commitment to maintain a strong US-UK relationship,” a US official said.

‘The VP was in charge and was personally involved in negotiating a deal, including having direct conversations with the British government’.”

Starmer has the Trump administration looking closely into his Globalist policies.

Vance and Trump have compared the Labour UK Government’s efforts to ‘Chinese surveillance’.

“’The VP negotiated a mutually beneficial understanding that the UK Government will withdraw the current back door order to Apple’, the US official added. On Monday, Tulsi Gabbard, the US director of national intelligence, announced the UK Government had dropped the plan.”

Tulsi Gabbard also posted about the issue:

Rhode Island’s Democrat AG Forced to Suspend Drunk Assistant AG After EMBARRASSING Arrest: “She’s Put Me in a Bad Position”
August 20, 2025

Rhode Island’s Democrat Attorney General Peter Neronha is scrambling after one of his own prosecutors, Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan, was hauled off in handcuffs following a drunken meltdown in Newport.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that on Thursday night, Flanagan, a Democrat-appointed prosecutor, was arrested after refusing to leave the upscale Clarke Cooke House restaurant and berating responding officers while flaunting her government “status.”

According to the Newport Police Department, officers were dispatched at 9:51 p.m. on August 14 after Flanagan and her friend, Veronica Hannan, ignored repeated requests from staff to leave.

What happened next was a disgrace.

Bodycam footage obtained by parental rights activist Nicole Solas shows the entitled Flanagan berating officers, desperately clinging to her job title like it was a “get out of jail free” card.

“I’M AN AG!” Flanagan shrieked eleven times while resisting arrest, even threatening officers:

“Buddy, you’re gonna regret this.”

But Newport’s officers didn’t flinch. One officer coolly responded:

“Good for you. I don’t give a sh*t.”

According to the Newport Police report obtained by GoLocal Prov News:

After several attempts of trying to move the parties along with verbal commands, I gently placed my hands on the backs of Veronica and Hogan, attempting to usher them away to avoid further conflict. Both parties still refused to leave and I grabbed Hogan’s left and right hands, securing handcuffs on her. While attempting to secure Hogan in handcuffs she repeatedly stated, “I’m an AG (Attorney General).” I informed Hogan that she was being arrested because of the fact that she was refused to leave after numerous lawful orders. Hogan was subsequently searched for weapons and contraband before being placed in the rear prisoner compartment of cruiser #16 which was previously searched.

Once Hogan was secured in the rear of my cruiser, I observed Officer Chiang struggling to place Veronica in handcuffs. I went over to assist Officer Chiang in securing Veronica in handcuffs. I grabbed Veronica’s left arm while Officer Chiang grabbed her right arm. As Officer Chiang went to place handcuffs on Veronica, she tensed her arms and pulled away. Veronica at one point screamed, “Get your fucking hands off me” as he was giving commands. Officer Chiang put his body weight into Veronica as he was attempting to secure the handcuffs on her as she continued to stiffen and resist hand placement.

While in the process of attempting to secure Veronica in handcuffs, her husband, James kept trying to interfere with the detention. With a single arm, I pushed James away and commanded him multiple times to get back. Eventually, Officer Chiang was able to secure Veronica in handcuffs, however, due to the petite size of her wrists, Veronica slipped out of the handcuffs quickly and took a few steps back. At this point, it should be noted that a large crowd had formed due to the loud and unreasonable noise that disturbed the general public in the area. I then immediately grabbed Veronica’s right hand firmly as Officer Chiang grabbed her left hand. I then placed Veronica in handcuffs as she still actively resisted by tensing…”

In another statement by Newport Police, an officer cited:

“Sergeant Lavallee booked and photographed Veronica and she was searched by Officer Gonsalves before being placed in cell #8. Officer Hutson booked and photographed Hogan and she was searched and fingerprinted by Officer Lopes. It should be noted that while booking Hogan, she was extremely uncooperative, berating officers, repeatedly stating her position as an AG and refusing to follow instructions. Hogan was eventually released with a District Court Summons.”

With the scandal exploding, Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha (D) admitted on local radio that Flanagan will face a suspension without pay, but only after she embarrassed herself, his office, and the entire state.

Peter Neronha:
“Look, she’s put me in a bad position. She’s embarrassed herself, humiliated herself, and treated the Newport Police Department horribly. She is going to take some steps to try to address that in the next day or so. But I just don’t know what I’m going to do yet, Jean, and I have to give it some more thought.

But the inexcusable behavior—she knows better. The office knows better. I’ve got 110 lawyers. She embarrassed all of them, in a sense. I haven’t had many issues like this while I’ve been attorney general, though I’ve had a few. I want to get some more information, frankly, about what’s going on with her before I make my final decision.

She’s taking a couple of vacation days. She’s not working. Is she taking a couple of days off right now? I wouldn’t call them vacation days. I will tell you, Jean, that in the end, there will be a suspension without pay here, if I were to retain her, for sure.

She’s not going to continue to go on as if nothing happened in terms of salary and that kind of thing. So there’ll be a strong sanction here. I just want to think it through and get all the information I need to make sure that I’m doing the right thing.

Look, I have the responsibility to protect the office, obviously, and the work. But these are decisions that impact human beings, too. And so I want to take everything into account, make sure that I’m doing what I think is right and is consistent with what I’ve done in the past.”

Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller visit National Guardsmen at Union Station in Washington, DC

Vice President JD Vance spoke to reporters at Washington, DC’s Union Station on Wednesday and signaled that President Trump will extend the emergency in DC and keep the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control if necessary.

“if the President of the United States thinks that he has to extend this order to ensure that people have access to public safety, then that’s exactly what he’ll do,” Vance said.

“This is the national, cultural, and political capital of the world’s greatest nation, and you talk to people black, brown, white, so many of them are afraid to bring their kids into its public spaces. It’s a shame. It’s a blight. It actually should make every American ashamed that the world’s leading superpower, our national capital, was unsafe for families to walk around at night. ”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump signed two executive actions to declare a “public safety emergency” in the nation’s capital, federalize the DC police force, and authorize the use of National Guard troops to tackle the rampant crime, homelessness, and illegal immigration crises.

Section 740 of the DC Home Rule Act allows the President to take control of the Metropolitan Police Department under “special conditions of an emergency nature,” but Congressional approval is required to federalize the police for more than 30 days.

Vance was asked on Wednesday if the administration plans to go past the 30-day limit and whether he thinks Congress will grant the extension.

WATCH:

Reporter: Will you extend past 30 days, and will Congress go along with it?

Vance: We’ll ultimately let the President of the United States determine where we are after 30 days of this emergency order. I think that we’re going to make a lot of progress over the next 20 days. I think that we’re nine days into this thing. But if the President of the United States thinks that he has to extend this order to ensure that people have access to public safety, then that’s exactly what he’ll do. If he thinks he doesn’t have to do that, obviously, he’ll make that determination, but what we’re going to do is try to empower these guys to do as good of a job as possible to bring public safety and order back to Washington, DC.

This is the national, cultural, and political capital of the world’s greatest nation, and you talk to people black, brown, white, so many of them are afraid to bring their kids into its public spaces. It’s a shame. It’s a blight. It actually should make every American ashamed that the world’s leading superpower, our national capital, was unsafe for families to walk around at night. That is a disgrace, we don’t think that it’s acceptable, and thank God we have the presidential leadership to change it, and that’s exactly what we’re trying to do.

Vance’s comments came as he visited the Union Station transit hub in Washington, DC, which is used by approximately 100,000 commuters per day to go in and out of the city.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller paid a visit to National Guard troops at the station for lunch.
