The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a ground stop for Newark Airport in New Jersey on Thursday due to an ‘equipment’ issue ahead of the busy Labor Day weekend.

Hundreds of flights were canceled and delayed due to the ground stop.

The ground stop turned into a ground delay. Flights were delayed more than 2 hours on Thursday afternoon.

CBS News reported:

Newark Liberty International Airport is under a ground delay Thursday afternoon. It comes prior to a busy holiday weekend.

A full ground stop was ordered around noon and later updated to a ground delay. Arriving flights appear to be delayed by more than 2.5 hours.

“The FAA is pausing some flights into Newark Liberty International Airport due to equipment issues. We are investigating the cause,” a spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement.

The airport has been limiting its number of flights due to air traffic control staffing and equipment issues from earlier in the summer. The FAA suggested earlier this month that the slowdown should remain in effect until October 2026.

Hundreds of flights had to be canceled or delayed at the start of the summer, in part due to runway construction and partly due to equipment issues that caused air traffic controllers to briefly lose communication on multiple occasions.

Earlier this year United Airlines pulled 35 round-trip flights a day following a radar outage at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

In April air traffic controllers lost communication with planes flying in and out of Newark for about 90 seconds.

National Air Traffic Controllers Association told Bloomberg News that Newark “temporarily lost radar and communications with the aircraft under their control, unable to see, hear, or talk to them.”

The FAA released an urgent statement earlier this year after a malfunction with telecommunications equipment.

“Our antiquated air traffic control system is affecting our workforce. As @SecDuffy has said, we must get the best safety technology in the hands of controllers as soon as possible. We are working to ensure the current telecommunications equipment is more reliable in the New York area by establishing a more resilient and redundant configuration with the local exchange carriers. In addition, we are updating our automation system to improve resiliency,” the FAA said.

In the wake of the horrific mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, where two young children were gunned down and 17 others wounded during a school Mass, CNN anchor Jake Tapper has sparked outrage by focusing on the “correct” pronouns for the deranged transgender shooter.

The depraved male shooter was born Robert Paul Westman but legally changed his name to Robin M. Westman in 2020 and began identifying as “female.”

On Wednesday, he opened fire from outside the church windows, targeting helpless children and parishioners inside. Westman, 23, later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities recovered a manifesto and videos where the shooter expressed suicidal ideation, obsession with past mass killings, and inscribed gun magazines with vile messages like “Kill Donald Trump” and “Where is your God?”

Following the attack, Tapper took time during his broadcast to lecture viewers on respecting the shooter’s gender identity and preferred name.

In the jaw-dropping segment on CNN, Tapper stated, “There’s been some confusion as to what the shooter’s name was. Robin Westman’s mother applied to change her child’s name in 2019. It was at one point Robert Paul Westman, but since she identifies as a female, and wants her name to reflect that identification, and was underage, it’s now Robin.”

This comes amid reports that liberal media outlets are bending over backward to avoid “misgendering” the gunman, even as families mourn the dead children.

Naturally, this sparked outrage across social media.

This isn’t the first time a transgender-identified individual has carried out a deadly attack on a religious school. In 2023, Audrey Hale, another transgender shooter, killed six at Nashville’s Covenant School. Yet, mainstream media like CNN seem more concerned with pushing the transgender agenda than addressing potential patterns or the mental health crises involved.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey used the tragedy to warn against people targeting people who identify as transgender, but ignoring the shooter’s identity, mental illness, and motivations only enables more violence.

The FBI is investigating the incident as domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt will field questions from reporters today in the aftermath of Wednesday’s shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, a transgender gunman opened fire, shooting through the windows of the church at Annunciation Catholic School as students attended mass during the first week of the school year.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that the shooter, a male in his early 20s, opened fire on children as they attended mass at the school, killing at least two children and injuring 14 children and three adults. Police say he was armed with three guns: a rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun.

The shooter, who killed himself at the scene, posted a manifesto on YouTube before the shooting, showing his gun collection with scribbled words on the barrel and magazines, including “kill Donald Trump.” The video also showed a body target on his wall with an image of Jesus Christ on the head of the target.

FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on Wednesday that the FBI is investigating the shooting as domestic terrorism and a hate crime against Catholics.

Today’s briefing also comes as President Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, DC, finishes its third week.

President Trump’s federalization of the DC Metropolitan Police force and deployment of the National Guard to ensure public safety in the notoriously high-crime capital began on August 11.

Trump also deployed federal law enforcement agents across the capital on August 7.

Even DC Mayor Muriel Bowser has acknowledged the success of the initiative, citing the 87% decrease in carjackings and 15% drop in overall crime since Trump took over earlier this month.

Now the President is taking aim at and considering deploying the National Guard in other cities like Baltimore, Chicago, New York, and San Francisco.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, President Trump told reporters on Friday, “I think Chicago will be our next, and then we’ll help with New York.” He added, “Now, you look at what the Democrats have done to San Francisco. They’ve destroyed it… We’ll clean that one up, too.”

Alligator Alcatraz will be emptied out in a few days after an Obama judge ordered the facility to be dismantled.

Last week US District Judge Kathleen Williams, an Obama appointee, barred the Trump Administration from bringing new illegal alien detainees to Alligator Alcatraz. She also ordered the facility to be dismantled within 60 days.

Alligator Alcatraz is a detention center for illegal aliens, many of whom are rapists, murderers, and designated foreign terrorists.

The facility, which opened last month at the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, is surrounded by Florida’s natural defenses, including alligators, pythons, and dense swampland in the Florida Everglades.

Earlier this month Judge Williams cited environmental violations for her two-week pause on future construction.

“The facility can continue to operate and hold detainees for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but workers will be barred from adding any new filling, paving or infrastructure for the next 14 days. U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams issued the ruling during a hearing and said she will issue a written order later Thursday,” The Associated Press reported.

On Thursday, Judge Williams issued a preliminary injunction barring the Trump Administration from bringing new illegal aliens to Alligator Alcatraz and ordered the facility to be dismantled.

“The Court ENTERS a Preliminary Injunction prohibiting the State and Federal Defendants and their officers, agents, employees, attorneys, and any person who is in active concert or participation with them from (1) installing any additional industrial-style lighting (described by witnesses as “Sunbelt” lighting); or doing any paving, filling, excavating, or fencing; or doing any other site expansion, including placing or erecting any additional buildings, tents, dormitories, or other residential or administrative facilities on the TNT site; and (2) bringing any additional persons onto the TNT site who were not already being detained at the site at the time of this Order going into effect,” the judge wrote in an 82-page order reviewed by The Gateway Pundit.

The Judge said the facility must be dismantled within 60 days.

“No later than sixty (60) days from the date of this order, and once the population attrition allows for safe implementation of this Order,40 the Defendants shall remove 1) the temporary fencing installed by Defendants to allow Tribe members access to the site consistent with the access they enjoyed before the erection of the detention camp; 2) the Sunbelt lighting fixtures and any additional lighting installed for the use of the property as a detention facility; and 3) all generators, gas, sewage, and other waste and waste receptacles that were installed to support this project,” the judge wrote.

The Department of Homeland Security has begun moving detainees out of a controversial, state-run immigration detention center in the middle of the Florida Everglades dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” days after a federal judge ruled that parts of the facility must be dismantled.

The detainees are being transferred to other immigration detention centers, DHS said in a statement Wednesday, blaming a court order from an “activist judge” that it called “another attempt to prevent the President from fulfilling the American people’s mandate to remove the worst of the worst.”

“DHS is complying with this order and moving detainees to other facilities. We will continue to fight tooth-and-nail to remove the worst of the worst from American streets,” DHS said in a statement to CBS News.
