Is Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson completely crazy? It sure looks that way. He recently commented that law enforcement is a ‘sickness’ and that it has not led to safer cities.
This is obviously part of his ongoing refusal to allow President Trump to send resources to Chicago in an effort to curb the city’s rampant problem of violent crime.
It’s amazing that Johnson has somehow managed to be an even worse mayor for Chicago than Lori Lightfoot. He is clearly in over his head in this role.

The city of Chicago has a crime problem. Everyone knows it, including Chicago’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
Pritzker himself said crime is just a part of big city life, just after a bloody Labor Day weekend where 54 people were shot and seven were killed. Mayor Johnson took a more theological approach, saying jailing criminals is “racist, unholy and doesn’t lower violent crime rates.”
That was on August 25, a week before all the mayhem in Chicago. We’re now halfway through September, and Mayor Johnson continues to object to putting criminals in prison…
In Washington, DC, President Trump’s push to stop crime has, in fact, reduced crime. The nation’s capital saw a stretch of at least ten days with zero homicides.

Burma Junta Supports China Global Security – Life is About to Get Worse in Burma

Life in Burma (Myanmar) is already difficult enough for the population, with those living in resistance-controlled areas subjected to bombings by government forces, while those in government-controlled areas face repression and tyranny.
Increasingly, people are also being subjected to digital monitoring through payment apps, AI, digital ID cards, facial recognition, and other technologies. The junta’s purpose is to prevent money from flowing to the resistance while also stopping draft-age citizens from fleeing the country now that there is a national conscription. And China is behind this digital repression.
Several Chinese companies have been involved, including Huawei and Geedge Networks (trading as Jizhi Information Technology), which provides products such as the Taingou Secure Gateway (TSG) that uses deep packet inspection to decrypt encrypted traffic. Hikvision, a company sanctioned internationally for its role in the Uyghur genocide, is also implicated, as is the China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation (CEIEC), which is involved in a location-tracking system for the junta.
With Beijing’s support, the junta conducted a census ahead of their sham elections scheduled for next year. The opposition and pro-democracy parties have already been barred from running, making the exercise purely performative. In October 2024, Burma’s military junta carried out a nationwide census, officially framed as preparation for voter rolls in the planned 2025 election. Many Burmese citizens and international observers, however, see it as a pretext for expanding state surveillance.
The census used Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) technology, with 42,000 enumerators equipped with mobile tablets to collect data from more than 13 million households. The resulting census data has been integrated into a “National Database,” a surveillance tool that combines National Registration Identity Cards (NRIC), SIM registration, and information from other services.
Things are set to become even worse. At the eighth ministerial meeting held earlier this month between China’s public security minister and Burma’s home minister, the junta pledged greater support for China’s Global Security Initiative (GSI). Launched by Xi Jinping in 2022 alongside the Global Development and Civilization Initiatives, the GSI is meant to reshape the world order by positioning China as a global security provider and challenging U.S. dominance. Through forums such as the UN, ASEAN, BRICS+, the Lancang–Mekong Cooperation framework, and the China–Africa Peace and Security Forum, Beijing promotes its security norms as an alternative to Western approaches.
A key feature of the GSI is international policing, which expands Chinese cooperation through training of foreign law-enforcement personnel, joint patrols, and the export of surveillance technology and equipment. The Mekong region serves as a testing ground for this vision. Security and law enforcement are central to Beijing’s strategy, with China presenting itself as a regional security provider to counter organized crime and stabilize border areas.
China has steadily expanded its security presence in the region through initiatives like the Lancang-Mekong Law Enforcement Cooperation Center (LM-LECC), which has enabled the permanent stationing of armed officers in northern Laos and extended Chinese influence into zones such as the Golden Triangle SEZ. This formal policing footprint is reinforced by Chinese private security companies. These firms protect Belt and Road projects, pipelines, ports, and other critical infrastructure, while also providing logistics, site security, and intelligence.
Legal changes, enacted by the Burmese junta, in 2024 now permit them to be armed, often staffed by former PLA soldiers, allowing China to maintain an armed presence without formally deploying troops. Companies such as China Overseas Security Group and CITIC-linked ventures are active in strategic hubs like Kyaukphyu, while others are involved in surveillance and infrastructure projects. Their operations complement Chinese-supplied facial recognition systems, web monitoring tools, and digital ID programs, creating an apparatus that blends physical protection with digital repression.
Although not structured for frontline combat, these security firms extend China’s reach, safeguard its investments, and help the junta tighten its grip on the population while preserving Beijing’s plausible deniability.
These initiatives serve multiple purposes: protecting Chinese nationals and investments abroad, projecting China as a responsible global actor, exporting Chinese policing norms, expanding its intelligence and surveillance reach over Chinese citizens overseas, and reinforcing the legitimacy of the Communist Party at home.
At the same time, China’s security programs prop up the generals, deepen repression of the civilian population, and make it harder for the resistance to oust the junta. As a result, the war drags on endlessly, Beijing grows wealthier while the Burmese people continue to suffer and die.

Byron York of the Washington Examiner appeared on the Ingraham Angle this week and addressed the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel from ABC.
He suggested that this was similar to the Stephen Colbert situation, that it was cumulative, and that Kimmel did not understand that it’s not 2017 anymore. Most of the country has moved on from the 24/7 anti-Trump hysteria, but these late night hosts couldn’t or wouldn’t let it go.
This is a great point and could actually apply to quite a few people in media.

Congressional Report: Biden White House Spent $900 Million to Manipulate Taxpayers Pushing COVID Narrative

A congressional report has uncovered how the Biden-Harris administration spent $900 million of taxpayer money to push the COVID narrative and keep Americans frightened, locked down, and compliant.
“The HHS taxpayer-funded campaign used emotionally manipulative ads to make clear that getting vaccinated was the only way to see friends, hang out, go on dates, have parties, vacation, and have sleepovers. In the summer of 2024, all HHS campaign materials available on YouTube were made private and are no longer accessible to the public.”
The report was released by the House Republicans on the Energy and Commerce Committee found that taxpayer money was used on ads that overstated vaccine effectiveness, exaggerated the risks of COVID-19 to children, and relied on flawed CDC guidance. The campaign promoted claims, contradicting FDA authorizations, that vaccination would prevent transmission and allow life to return to normal. And these false claims allowed private companies to make hundreds of billions.
Committee leaders argued the effort not only misled Americans but also harmed education and the economy by reinforcing lockdown policies and contributed to declining confidence in other vaccines. They also revealed that part of the funding went to Big Tech companies to track and monitor Americans, raising data privacy concerns.
The report concluded that the “Stop the Spread” campaign eroded trust in government. Republicans placed blame on the administration for politicized messaging and for silencing dissenting scientific voices.
The $900 million expenditure represents a substantial misuse of taxpayer funds for what appears to be political messaging rather than legitimate public health communication. Even under the best circumstances, government intervention distorts economic markets. In this case, the Biden administration also distorted the information market, as centralized messaging campaigns crowded out opposing voices and alternative solutions.
The funding of Big Tech companies for surveillance activities exemplifies crony capitalism. Taxpayer money was used to enrich large corporations while simultaneously expanding government monitoring capabilities. This kind of government-business collusion undermines free speech and hinders both economic and scientific development by silencing dissenting voices.
Social media platforms censored doctors, nurses, and anecdotal evidence that challenged official measures. At the same time, they promoted voices supporting the administration’s line and selectively allowed anecdotal evidence only if it reinforced official policy. During COVID, there was a disturbing slide into elitism: the idea that only “experts” should be allowed to speak. Yet if those experts opposed the measures, no matter their credentials, they were dismissed as not “expert enough.”
There was not a single peer-reviewed scientific paper supporting school closures, yet anyone who questioned them was accused of “denying the science.” The silencing of dissenting scientific voices violates core conservative principles of free speech and open inquiry. Science advances through debate and questioning, not through centralized messaging campaigns that shut down legitimate scientific discussion.
The most powerful advertising for the vaccines came from government messaging, funded by taxpayers, telling us that “vaccines prevent transmission” and that if everyone complied, we could all “return to normal.” The government claimed vaccination was voluntary, yet repeatedly blamed the unvaccinated for the nation’s inability to return to normal. In reality, all it had to do was officially end the emergency and allow life to resume. Instead, citizens were encouraged to pressure or even inform on their neighbors who refused to comply.
By reinforcing lockdown policies through misleading messaging, the campaign caused significant economic damage. School closures and business restrictions imposed massive costs on society, particularly harming small businesses and working families. Meanwhile, certain businesses were allowed to remain open and thrive, with the government deciding which ones were “essential” and which were not.
The emergency powers framework further entrenched this imbalance. EUAs could be renewed indefinitely without requiring full approval data, allowing companies to sell products without meeting normal safety standards while being shielded from competition. Messaging about “free” vaccines was equally misleading, taxpayers were footing the bill through massive government purchases, though this fact was obscured from public understanding.
Ultimately, Biden’s $900 million PR campaign paid off handsomely for the pharmaceutical industry. The U.S. government invested at least $31.9 billion in mRNA vaccine research and procurement between 1985 and 2022, with another $29.2 billion spent by BARDA and the Department of Defense on advance purchase commitments for 2 billion doses. The federal government bought 1.2 billion doses of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines alone at a cost of $25.3 billion. In return, Moderna and Pfizer generated over $100 billion in global vaccine revenues, while the four major producers, Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna, and Sinovac, collectively made $90 billion in profits in just 2021–2022.
