In its second round of mass layoffs since its CEO announced last year that artificial intelligence would reshape its workforce, Amazon announced Tuesday that it is cutting about 16,000 jobs.

As noted by CNN, the first cuts announced in late October trimmed about 14,000 jobs.

Beth Galetti, senior vice president of People Experience and Technology, announced the cuts on the company’s website. She said Amazon was “working to strengthen our organization by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy.”

Galetti said employees have 90 days to find a new job at Amazon, and that severance pay and other supports would be extended to workers getting the axe.

“While we’re making these changes, we’ll also continue hiring and investing in strategic areas and functions that are critical to our future. We’re still in the early stages of building every one of our businesses and there’s significant opportunity ahead,” she wrote.

CNN noted that Amazon has about 350,000 corporate employees, making the cuts about 9 percent of its corporate workforce.

Amazon did not provide details of which jobs would be cut, but according to The New York Times, more cuts targeted software engineers than any other job category.

The report noted that most of Amazon’s 1,578,000 employees are hourly warehouse and operations workers who are not impacted by the cuts.

However, The New York Times noted, Amazon has floated plans to use robots to replace up to half a million jobs.

In its report on the job cuts, CNN noted that “Amazon is in stiff competition with Microsoft, Google, Meta, OpenAI and a host of other technology companies that are battling to ramp up computing power and large language models that they believe will power the economy of the future.”

In October, Galetti posted that “the world is changing quickly. This generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet, and it’s enabling companies to innovate much faster than ever before.”

In June, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said AI “should change the way our work is done.”

“We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs. It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company,” he wrote then.

Last week, Mike Rowe warned that changes due to AI were going to hit some Americans harder than others, according to Fox Business.

“AI is coming for the coders. It’s not yet coming for the welders, and that basic understanding has taken root,” Rowe said.

In an interview, Rowe listed where workers are needed the most.

“The automotive industry needs over 100,000 skilled workers immediately… Larry Fink at BlackRock talks about four to 500,000 electricians needed in his portfolio of companies alone,” Rowe said. “The data center push, shipbuilding, the U.S. maritime industrial base is looking for 400,000 skilled workers alone. It goes way beyond just the construction industry.”

“Certainly nobody has a crystal ball, but it seems pretty clear, and I haven’t talked to anybody that disagrees with the idea that the category of jobs or the cohort of workers least likely to be disrupted by AI is going to be welders and electricians and steam fitters and pipe fitters, and energy workers and so forth,” Rowe said.

The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority has admitted to reassigning buses featuring advertisements for First Lady Melania Trump’s documentary, “Melania,” due to widespread vandalism targeting the promotional

According to LA Metro officials, the decision was made after “significant vandalism” was observed on movie posters at bus stops across the city.

“The buses remain in regular service. Our buses have unfortunately been subject to vandalism over the last couple of years,” a spokesperson for the LA Metro told the California Post.

The buses remain in service but have been rerouted away from high-traffic areas where the ads were most likely to be defaced.

“So, after seeing significant vandalism at city bus stops on advertising for the Melania movie, Metro proactively reassigned some the buses containing that advertising to other geographic areas to minimize potential vandalism.”

The agency did not say which neighbors the buses were pulled from, or where they were moved to.

The vandalism, which began shortly after the posters went up, included crude graffiti and expletives aimed directly at the First Lady.

Los Angeles County GOP Chair Roxanne Hoge has accused LA Metro of deliberately hiding the buses in a parking lot to sabotage the film’s opening weekend.

Hoge posted photos of the buses in a parking lot an wrote on X, “I’m hearing it’s because someone doesn’t want Melania, The Movie, to have a good opening weekend.”

Instead of delivering the service that the producers paid for, @metrolosangeles is *hiding* the Melania buses in each division.

Merz is learning that it’s hard to resist an idea whose time has come: Remigration.

Failing German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is for some reason emboldened by his ‘heroic’ 44-hour German mission in Greenland, as we can read in ‘SUPERPOWER’: The FIFTEEN German Soldiers Sent to ‘Defend’ Greenland Have Already Returned Home (VIDEO).

But as 2026 kicks is, Merz is forced to pay some attention to his own country, since many regional elections will be held this year.

So, his priority is counter the surging poll numbers of the rightwing Alternative for Germany (AfD), especially in the eastern German region where it is strongest.

Politico reported:

“The effort comes in a crowded year of elections — a Superwahljahr, or ‘super election year’, as Germans are calling it — that includes five state races and numerous local contests seen as key tests of the national mood, particularly as the AfD overtakes Merz’s governing conservatives in many polls.

Two of the state elections are taking place in eastern German states where the AfD is far ahead in polls and aiming to win significant governing power for the first since the party’s founding nearly 13 years ago.”

At rural Saxony-Anhalt the party shows nearly 40 percent support.

“For Merz, clear AfD victories in Saxony-Anhalt and beyond during his tenure would represent a major embarrassment. Before being elected chancellor nearly a year ago, the conservative leader largely staked his candidacy on a vow to stop the rise of the AfD. In an effort to do so — and win back voters who have defected to the AfD — Merz shifted his Christian Democratic Union (CDU) sharply to the right on migration. Historic far-right successes under his watch will be seen as proof that this strategy is failing.”

Conservative Firebrand Kid Rock returned to Capitol Hill yesterday (28).

He testified before Congress on the skyrocketing costs of concert and event ticketing.

Kid Rock shared with congressmen and women his thoughts on ‘how to combat the corporations and scammers driving up ticket costs’ – a situation that drives fans away and hurts the artists.

Hollywood Reporter:

“Wednesday’s subcommittee hearing, led by U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee), examines the live performance industry and ticket sale practices, the fees charged by primary and secondary sellers, and the prevalence of automated bots that rapidly buy up tickets.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert Ritchie, opened his testimony by telling lawmakers that he has been packing arenas for 25 years and that, more importantly, he is a capitalist and a lone wolf.

“‘I’m in a unique position to testify, because unlike most of my peers, I am beholden to no one, no record companies, no managers, no corporate endorsements or deals’, Ritchie told the committee. ‘To put it plainly, I ain’t scared, like many artists, managers and agents are, for fear of biting the hand that feeds them’.”

The merging of Live Nation and Ticketmaster did not benefit either artists or fans, he said.

“’The economic foundation that supported artists in the past is crumbling. Piracy is threatening their livelihood. Secondary ticketing is driving up prices for the fans with absolutely no benefit to the artist’, he added. ‘Needless to say, that experiment [merger of Live Nation and Ticketmaster] has failed miserably. Independent venues have been crushed. Artists have lost leverage. Fans are paying more than ever and getting blamed for it’.”
