The top police liaison for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes abruptly resigned just days after Mayes made explosive comments that dangerously legitimized violence against federal law enforcement officers, specifically ICE agents.

David Harvey, who served as the Attorney General’s police liaison, quit his post on Friday following Mayes’ inflammatory remarks during a televised interview about Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations and Arizona’s Stand Your Ground law.

According to AZ Central, Mayes’ spokesperson “declined to comment further or confirm” whether Harvey’s resignation was directly tied to the controversy.

The controversy erupted after Mayes appeared on 12News, where she openly speculated that armed Arizona residents could legally shoot ICE agents if they could not “reasonably identify” them as law enforcement—particularly if agents were wearing masks or not in traditional uniforms.

Mayes called the situation a “recipe for disaster,” citing Arizona’s Stand Your Ground statute and the presence of armed citizens.

When pressed by journalist Brahm Resnik on whether she was effectively giving people “license to shoot an officer,” Mayes responded:

“Absolutely not. But how do you know they’re a peace officer? That’s the key.”

She continued by suggesting that citizens could later argue they did not “reasonably know” they were confronting law enforcement.

Throughout the interview, Mayes repeated the typical leftist talking points about ICE, claiming they’ve engaged in “thuggish, brutish behavior.” She also previewed a new talking point that we haven’t heard, claiming that ICE is targeting the tribal Indian population in Arizona.

“The other thing that I wanna say to ICE is keep your hands off of our tribal members,” Mayes said, laughably claiming that a Navajo man was detained “because of the color of his skin.”

Mayes further discussed the 2026 elections, plans to push back against a buildup of federal agents and ICE around election time, potential seizure of illegal voting equipment, and pushed conspiracy theories about Trump planning to cancel the midterms.

Notably, she warned that “We will do everything that physically that we can do to prevent them from seizing anything.” When asked to clarify, Mayes says, “It means what it means. No one’s taking anything out of our election polling places.”

In his 2026 Davos address, President Trump argued that Europe’s economic stagnation is the result of a self-inflicted “civilizational erasure” driven by reliance on what he calls the “Green New Scam,” which he says has replaced affordable energy with costly and unreliable wind power.

He further asserted that unchecked mass migration has strained social infrastructure and altered the continent’s cultural identity, while a stifling regulatory environment and excessive government spending have suppressed the innovation needed to compete with the United States.

Finally, he accused European nations of freeloading on American security, arguing that their failure to meet NATO defense spending targets over the past 70 years has allowed them to avoid the true costs of national sovereignty at the expense of the American taxpayer.

Based on current economic data as of January 2026, the comparison supports Trump’s critique. While the United States is experiencing aggressive growth alongside widespread deregulation, Europe remains mired in what can best be described as stabilized stagnation.

The United States enters 2026 with inflation at 2.7%, steadily returning toward the 2% target. As in President Trump’s first term, strong GDP growth has been paired with relatively modest inflation. Fourth-quarter GDP growth is projected at 5.4%, dwarfing Europe’s stagnant 0.2%. For the full year, U.S. growth is expected to reach between 4.3% and 5%, while Europe is projected to manage only about 1.3% to 1.6%.

On the labor front, the United States maintains its historical advantage, with unemployment at 4.4% compared to 6.3% in the Eurozone. This low level of unemployment has been achieved despite deep government job cuts that reduced taxpayer costs.

While the United States reduced federal spending by $100 billion, European fiscal policy has moved in the opposite direction. The U.S. has moved 1.2 million people off food stamps, while European social safety nets are coming under increased strain from rising living costs.

In 2024, the most recent data available, EU social protection spending rose by 7%, far outpacing nominal GDP growth. This imbalance pushed the social expenditure-to-GDP ratio to 27.3% across the bloc, with countries such as France and Austria exceeding 31%, reinforcing the strain caused by rising demand for social welfare.

The U.S. now has a 129-to-1 deregulation ratio, compared to Europe, where regulation continues to increase. The European Commission’s own Competitiveness Compass estimates that new sustainability and digital reporting requirements will impose $9.18 billion (€8.6 billion) in recurring administrative costs on EU firms. In 2025, the United States finalized only five significant new federal mandates, while the EU advanced full implementation of the AI Act and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, affecting more than 50,000 companies.

Tax policy has become a primary driver of capital flight from Europe to the United States. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act institutionalized the largest tax cuts in history, including 100% expensing for capital investments. This has helped the U.S. secure $7 trillion in foreign direct investment, with estimates of committed new FDI ranging from $18 trillion to $20 trillion. By contrast, EU FDI inflows in 2025 totaled only $239 billion, up 56% from $153 billion in 2024.

The United States is performing better in energy independence and trade balance, with self-sufficiency above 100% and net exporter status that reduces vulnerability to global disruptions, generates an estimated $200–250 billion annual energy trade surplus, and provides strategic leverage through LNG exports to Europe. Europe lags with roughly 42% self-sufficiency and 58% import dependency, resulting in higher costs, greater supply risks, and weaker economic resilience, despite faster progress in renewables.

Energy remains far cheaper in the United States, particularly electricity and natural gas, due to abundant domestic production, lower taxes and levies, and reduced reliance on imports, with overall prices about half of Europe’s and industrial electricity often as little as one-third.

Europe’s trade surplus with the United States fell 50% from the tariff-driven frontloading spike in the first quarter to the third quarter, with the full-year 2025 surplus projected to be 5% to 10% lower than in 2024.

Apart from the economy, the United States has excelled in border and immigration enforcement. Under President Trump’s second term, the U.S. border is the most secure it has been in decades, with 237,565 illegal aliens apprehended and zero released into the country. Additionally, nearly three million illegal aliens have left the country, including 2.2 million voluntary departures and 675,000 involuntary deportations.

Europe, by contrast, admitted an additional 155,000 illegal migrants during the same period, contributing to rising crime rates and increasing social expenditures tied to migrant benefits.

A private business jet carrying eight people crashed while attempting to take off from Bangor International Airport in Maine on Sunday evening, federal aviation officials said.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the incident, which occurred at around 7:45 p.m. ET. A source briefed on the crash told CNN that the extent of injuries among those on board remains unclear.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier Challenger 650, a midsize business jet commonly used for private travel.

Bangor International Airport said in a statement that emergency crews were dispatched immediately after the crash.

The airport was subsequently shut down to all traffic.

The FAA said both it and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the accident.

The crash occurred as a major winter storm moved through the Northeast.

Conditions in Maine at the time included below-freezing temperatures, light snowfall and severely reduced visibility.

Federal records show the aircraft is registered to a limited liability company based in Houston.

Air traffic control audio recorded shortly before the crash captures controllers and pilots discussing poor visibility and de-icing procedures.

It is not immediately clear which aircraft those conversations referred to.

At one point, a controller can be heard clearing the jet for takeoff on Runway 33.

Nearly two minutes later, urgency enters the radio traffic as a controller announces: “All traffic is stopped on the field! All traffic is stopped on the field!”

Moments after that, another controller reports: “Aircraft upside down. We have a passenger aircraft upside down.”

Following the crash, the airport was formally closed, allowing emergency vehicles full access to the runway and surrounding areas.

Later radio transmissions indicate controllers believed there were “three crew and possibly five passengers” aboard the aircraft at the time of the crash.

Officials have not yet released details on the cause of the accident or the condition of those involved.

President Trump arrived in Davos with one item on his mind: Greenland.  The goal was to make a bid for the ice-covered landmass, which is so valuable to the United States from both a geopolitical and financial standpoint.  At the crossroads of the Arctic, the great “piece of ice,” as our President endearingly labeled it, is situated at a crucial intersection for trade and military operations.  It can provide a great strategic boost to any superpower which claims it, a reason for President Trump’s strong campaign to acquire it, and on the flipside of that, a reason for Chinese and Russian warships becoming an increasingly common sight off its coastline.

Greenland also has tactical utility: intercontinental missiles from any of the aforementioned nations may use Greenland as a strategic outpost for launching them.  Likewise, drones.  Its close proximity to the United States thus heightens the stakes for modern technological warfare if any of the other powers were to claim it for themselves.  While President Trump may have backed away from deploying troops to acquire Greenland by force, instead resorting to diplomacy, if heaven forbid China or Russia, and not our ally in Denmark, should claim this land for themselves, a military option for acquisition would then not only be revived, but perhaps foregone.

Thus, the strong campaign for Greenland is a rare example of an American leader responding to an evolving world order and mapping out a long term strategy in real time.  While the United States is enjoying something of a renaissance under the second Trump administration, Europe continues to languish.  By every metric, European strength, relative to the United States, depreciated exponentially over the last two decades, a trend forecasted to only accelerate in the years ahead.  Europe and the United States may be partners, but the union forged between them today is not that of co-equals.  President Trump knows this; based on similar principles, he understands that it is no longer realistic for Greenland to be managed by a country that has not been geopolitically significant in at least four centuries.

Then there are the resources.  Greenland, which is more than three times the size of Texas and five times that of California, is teeming with natural riches: from rare earths to precious metals to natural gas.  In this respect, it can be an economic windfall for the United States, a benefit that if annexed for Uncle Sam would accrue to the rest of the world as well.  This is because only the United States possesses the technological know-how and manpower to penetrate Greenland’s rough and lifeless tundra that stretches on for miles.  Denmark lacks the requisite drilling equipment; it also lacks the ability to secure the landmass militarily or otherwise.  Already, it has long managed Greenland in a semi-dependent partnership with the United States and other nations.  It is about time that it abdicates its role to greater powers, recognizing that the United States is the clear regional hegemon, and only it can maximize Greenland’s potential, with its vast mineral resources, and stave off hungry competitors like China or Russia in the process.

Beyond the economic upside, Greenland also symbolizes President Trump’s renewal of the Monroe Doctrine: a reinvigorated United States willing to defend its hemisphere responsibly, with a peace through strength foreign policy approach grounded in realism.  This is a gritty philosophy that aptly recognizes power dynamics for how the world is, not how liberals and globalist technocrats would like it to be.  The ideology of globalism, paired with its promise of a new world order, had long deluded European leaders into thinking borders were no longer necessary, human conflict had been permanently abolished, and that Europe could indefinitely profit off American industry, goods, and services, while never having to pay anything remotely close to a fair share in return.

The result of this bad deal has been catastrophic for the United States; not only did we get robbed, over decades, by our European partners, who were smart to exploit our leaders’ “generosity.”  But additionally, as we allowed our industries to get bled dry in service to the false creed of globalism, China and other rivals started to sink their teeth into our territory.  Though America’s leaders were wedded to globalism, China felt no special obligation to the same faith.  So they began planting their companies on our shores, offloading their industries on us and our allies, while making use of lax immigration laws to penetrate Western nations, their schools, and their job markets, with Chinese migrants, transforming our demographics along the way.  These trends have allowed China to take up shop, both in Europe and on America’s own shores; they took what they felt they could claim for themselves, sensing the weakness of their enemies and the dysfunction sown throughout their societies by a negligent ruling class over many decades.

Donald Trump has ushered in a new era in American-European relations.  Rather than subscribe to a deluded and outdated quasi-religious doctrine, he has recognized reality for what it is.  He knows the current state of global affairs.  He also knows the strength of American power and is not afraid to flex its muscles to get what he wants, which is what is in America’s best interests.  For Europe to recoil from that ask speaks less about the United States and more about Europe and its continued devotion to a subversive, backward-looking worldview.  Donald Trump knows Europe is weak and has called its bluff; he also realizes that weakness begets more weakness.  Thus, given the choice between entertaining Europe’s charade, which acts as if NATO does not entirely owe its existence to the United States, and the alternative – a world of vigorous American power, a renewed Monroe Doctrine that rightly claims territories like Greenland in its sphere of influence – Donald Trump has signaled the alternative is the way forward.  It is, in fact, the only way forward.

In a world where great powers such as America, China, and Russia increasingly steward global affairs, it is best that smaller countries recognize these emerging arrangements and take sides accordingly.  If Europe pushes America out of its house, China (or Russia) will move in.  At that point, Europe may face a reckoning – and realize that it would rather have the United States, with its shared Western culture, Christian religion, and commitment to liberty, than the autocratic alternatives.  If there is a takeaway from Davos 2026, it would be this.  Greenland boasts incredible strategic and economic potential, for sure.  But even more than that, it is a portent for an evolving world order, one where Western countries will be forced into decisive commitments, or else face conquest by emerging threats.  Donald Trump is showing, by his example, how the United States might remain on top of this power hierarchy long into the future.  Europe will have to take heed of these lessons if it wishes to remain relevant in this century as well.
