For months now, Democrats in various locations have been running on talking points about ‘affordability’ but it is just talking points, nothing more.

Case in point, Virginia. Democrats took control of Virginia just days ago and the state is already poised to have the highest tax rate in the country, beating even California.

Does that sound like affordability to you?

Virginia State Tax Rate Could Rise From 5.75% to 13.8%, Highest In The Nation

Bills pending in the Virginia state legislature could raise the state income tax a lot. The most likely to pass bill would increase the state income tax rate from 5.75% to 8% on incomes over $600,000 and 10% on incomes over $1,000,000. Another bill would impose an additional 3.8% tax (a “net investment income tax”) on most income above $500,000. If both bills pass, Virginia would have an 13.8% tax rate. That would be higher than what is currently the highest state tax rate in America, the 13.3% rate in California for households with million-dollar incomes. It would be far higher than the top tax rates in the region around Virginia, such as the 3.99% tax rate in North Carolina, the 4.82% rate in West Virginia, and the zero percent tax rate in Tennessee, which has no state income tax.

The most likely to pass bill is HB 979, introduced by Delegate Vivian Watts, the powerful chair of the Finance Committee in Virginia’s House of Delegates. HB 979 “establishes two new tax brackets beginning on and after January 1, 2027, that tax income in excess of $600,000 but not in excess of $1,000,000 at a rate of eight percent and income in excess of $1,000,000 at a rate of 10 percent.”

Americans for Tax Reform outlines some of the other fun new taxes Democrats are pushing in Virginia:

Under unified Democrat control, Virginia is poised to become a tax-hiking outlier in a region full of states that are phasing out their income taxes. Immediately upon seizing control of government, Virginia Democrats introduced the following bills that seek to impose an array of new and higher taxes:

HB 378 – Imposes a 3.8% net investment income tax on individuals, trusts, and estates beginning in taxable year 2027. If enacted, HB 378 would raise VA’s top marginal income tax rate on portfolio and passive income to 9.55%.

HB 900 – Authorizes sales tax hikes in various transportation districts, imposes a new tax on each and every retail delivery in Northern Virginia (Amazon, Uber Eats, FedEx, UPS, etc.), similar to the one imposed in Minnesota by Gov. Tim Walz (D).

HB 919 – Imposes a firearm and ammunition tax equal to 11% percent of the gross receipts from the retail sale of any firearm or ammunition by a dealer in firearms, firearms manufacturer, or ammunition vendor, as such terms are defined in the bill.

HB 978 – Extends the retail sales and use tax to dry cleaning, landscaping, and other previously exempt services.

Elections have consequences. In Virginia, they are particularly expensive ones. Remember this the next time a Democrat is running on supposed affordability.

New York City’s new Democratic Socialist (communist) Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently made it clear that the children of people in the country illegally will be included in the city’s new ‘free’ childcare program.

He went on to reaffirm New York’s status as a sanctuary city and pushed lies about ICE arresting people without showing warrants.

It’s amazing that New York City is going down this road just as a daycare centered fraud scandal is on the verge of unseating the governor and attorney general in Minnesota.

Mamdani clarifies NYC won’t check immigration status for universal childcare enrollees

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani clarified Friday that the city wouldn’t check the immigration status of children enrolling in his administration’s universal pre-K and 3-K programs.

“Just to put it very clearly, these are programs for every single New Yorker,” Mamdani, who took office at the beginning of the year, said in a media roundtable discussion. “These are not programs that are going to ask the immigration status of any one of the children.

“All of those children are New Yorkers. They should all be enrolled in 3-K and pre-K, no matter where they were born or where they come from. And we are also proud to be a sanctuary city.”

He said that means ICE agents are denied access to schools, hospitals and city properties “unless those ICE agents can present a judicial warrant signed by a judge. We know that the vast majority of the time, ICE agents are not presenting that kind of documentation. If they’re presenting any kind of documentation, it tends to be an administrative warrant. And, a lot of times, there isn’t any kind of documentation provided.”

The mayor said earlier that the program is open to any New Yorkers who have children turning 3 or 4 anytime in 2026, adding the program could save New Yorkers tens of thousands of dollars a year “by providing them with free childcare.”

Of course, this program is not free, as Mamdani likes to call it. It’s being paid for by the taxpayers of New York, who are about to learn a valuable lesson in progressive governance.

GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales exposed lies peddled by Democrats and shared a video from the Texas detention center housing the 5-year-old boy who was abandoned by his illegal alien parents.

Five-year-old Liam was taken into ICE ‘custody’ after his illegal alien parents abandoned him in Minnesota while fleeing agents.

The fake news claimed the 5-year-old child was “detained” by ICE and taken away from his parents.

The video posted by Rep. Gonzales shows children inside the Dilley Immigration Processing in San Antonio, Texas, exercising and learning in a safe environment.

“In the coming days, you’ll see a lot of grandstanding by politicians at the Dilley ICE Center in my district, #TX23,” Rep Gonzales wrote on X. “It’s all for show. I’ve been there and seen the state-of-the-art facilities and protocols that @ICEgov follows.

“Our ICE agents and CBP personnel are doing their jobs, and yet again, Democrats are doing everything they can to spin the truth against law enforcement,” Gonzales said.

The children have access to computers, a library, and a basketball court.

Earlier this week, Democrat Senator Chris Murphy traveled to Texas to tour the Dilley Detention Center after the death of a man in ICE custody was ruled a homicide.

Murphy said he was denied entry.

“I flew down to South Texas today to do my job – investigate why people are dying in ICE detention centers,” Murphy said.

“This is astonishing. It tells you that these guys have something to hide,” Murphy said in a video posted to X.

“If they are not letting members of Congress in with less than seven days’ notice, it tells you how much work they know they need to do to cover up and hide the things they don’t want us to see,” Murphy said.

The DJ known simply as ‘Moby’ recently shared a video on social media in which he claims that Trump is suffering from frontotemporal dementia.

It is HILARIOUS to hear this coming from someone who supported Joe Biden, which Moby did. He also makes completely false claims about Trump’s approval rating, which is higher than Obama’s and Bush’s during the same point in their second terms.

Every time you think that the left can’t possibly seem more out of touch with the rest of the country, they up the ante with something like this.

Far-left DJ star Moby went on the attack against President Donald Trump ad claiming that he is “battling” mental health issues.

In a video posted to social media, the Harris and Biden supporter went on the attack against Trump and accused him variously of having “dementia” and being a “narcissist” and apologized to the “rest of the world.”

“To everyone in the rest of the world, just a reminder, Trump is not America,” Moby exclaimed.

He went on to make a false claim that many in Hollywood continue to push, saying, “His approval rating is as low as it’s ever been.”…

“So, he’s a mess, but he’s not America,” Moby said. “And like most of you, we’re just waiting for his presidency to end.”

Moby has been taking shots at Trump for years.

In June 2018, for example, he released a music video in which President Trump was depicted as a Nazi robot who’s blown up by a band of rebellious citizens.

Conservative journalist Brianna Lyman of The Federalist appeared on CNN this week and schooled host Abby Phillip and the rest of the panel on the fake news story about ICE supposedly detaining a five year-old. She points out that the child was treated with dignity and that he was abandoned by his father, who ran.

As she is trying to make her comments, Abby Phillip interrupts her – Abby does this to all of the conservative guests like Scott Jennings – and to her credit, Brianna Lyman pauses and asks why she keeps getting interrupted.

Lyman’s explanation of the situation is perfect though, and no one disputes her at the end.

“And you said that we’re being governed by people who don’t or who hate a certain group of people. We’re being governed by a government that actually loves the people of America. It loves her sovereignty. We are a nation of laws. Our immigration laws were duly enacted by Republicans and Democrats. If you don’t like them, that’s okay. But then you should go out and either elect a different representative to change those laws, or you should go and petition your government at the office.”

That’s how it’s done. Lyman did an amazing job here, despite the interruption from Abby Phillip. It has been astounding to watch the left try to distort this story for political points. It’s like the truth just doesn’t matter to them at all.
