New Hampshire Daycare Provider Sentenced for Horrific Drugging and Sexual Abuse of 9-Year-Old Child in Her Care

In a disturbing case out of Keene, New Hampshire, former licensed childcare provider Krystal Baird, 40, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for her role in drugging, sexually abusing, and producing child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of a nine-year-old victim that was left in her care with her bus driver husband.
According to court documents and trial evidence, Krystal Baird and her husband, Paul Baird, 45, a former school bus driver, began abusing the child as early as August 2023.
The couple, who were babysitting the victim, gave the child THC-infused candy to sedate them before the assaults.
Prosecutors detailed how Krystal Baird directed her husband to sexually assault the nine-year-old, while she photographed the abuse. Paul Baird also took explicit images of the child and later uploaded links to the images on a dark website dedicated to child pornography.
Krystal Baird was found guilty by a federal jury in November of aiding and abetting the production of child sexual abuse material after a five-day trial.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Steven J. McAuliffe sentenced Krystal Baird to 15 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release.

“Crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children inflict lasting trauma on victims and their families,” said United States Attorney Creegan in a statement. “It is particularly disturbing that this defendant was once in a position of trust, caring for children. Today’s sentence reflects the particularly appalling circumstances of Krystal Baid’s crime.”
Paul Baird was previously sentenced to 25 years of incarceration.
“Krystal Baird’s crimes are deeply disturbing. Baird was a willing participant when she and her partner conspired to drug and sexually abuse a child left in their care, photographing their crimes to share on the dark web. She denied any responsibility, but a jury rejected her story and found her guilty,” said Special Agent in Charge Michael J. Krol of Homeland Security Investigations in New England. “Today’s sentence emphasizes the incredible and irreversible damage she inflicted on a young life. We hope that knowing Krystal and Paul Baird will be behind bars for decades brings some peace to the victim and their family.”

California to Finally Enforce English Tests for Truckers After Newsom Folds to Unlock Federal Funds

California has begun enforcing federal English-language requirements for commercial truck drivers after months of resistance from Governor Gavin Newsom.
The change was confirmed by Nick Chiappe of the California Trucking Association on Friday.
“California Highway Patrol has begun enforcing the English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements for all drivers of commercial motor vehicles,” he said in a statement.
The move clears the way for the U.S. Department of Transportation to release more than $40 million in funding that had been frozen.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said that California had been the only state failing to enforce rules requiring truckers to demonstrate English proficiency.
“I shouldn’t have had to threaten to withhold millions in funding for California to come to their senses and enforce the law,” Duffy told The California Post.
“For those who said we’re playing politics—our efforts have gotten real results for the American people.”

Federal officials said the California Highway Patrol quietly began testing drivers for English Language Proficiency (ELP) in mid-January.
Under federal law, commercial drivers must be able to read traffic signs and communicate with law enforcement. Officers are required to assess language skills during routine stops and inspections.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order in April directing authorities to remove from service any truck drivers who fail the English requirement.
The renewed enforcement effort follows a deadly crash last August on the Florida Turnpike.
According to the Transportation Department, the driver involved did not speak English and failed the assessment.

“If states had followed the rules, this driver would never have been behind the wheel, and three precious lives would still be with us,” Duffy said at the time.
Jersey Shore Star Snooki Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Jersey Shore star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi announced she has been diagnosed with cancer.
In a post on TikTok, Snooki revealed she was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer.
Snooki, who is only 38, told her followers, “My results came back from my biopsy, and it came back stage one cervical cancer called adenocarcinoma.”
She later told her fans, who are mostly young women, to “get your pap smears done,” which is a screening procedure that collects cells from the cervix to detect cancer.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, known for her role on “Jersey Shore,” announced she has been diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer and is sharing her health journey with fans.
In a video posted to TikTok, Polizzi said her recent cone biopsy results showed she has stage 1 cervical cancer, specifically adenocarcinoma.
She explained, “My results came back from my biopsy and it came back stage one cervical cancer called um adenocarcinoma or something like 1b1… obviously not the news that I was hoping for, but also not the worst news. Just because they caught it so early. Thank frickin’ God.”
Polizzi emphasized the importance of regular screenings, saying, “I’m literally telling you guys to get your pap smears done. I’m 38 years old. I’ve been struggling with abnormal pap smears for like three, four years now, and now look at me… instead of just like putting it off because I didn’t wanna go and it hurt and I was scared, no, I just went and did it and it was there.”
Cervical cancer is not the only cancer on the rise among young adults.
Colon cancer has also seen its rates spike among young adults in recent years.
Dr. John Marshall of Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center shares, “We’re now starting to see more and more people in the 20s, 30s, and 40-year-old range developing colon cancer. At the beginning of my career, nobody that age had colorectal cancer.”
One of the latest victims of colon cancer was Dawson Creek Actor James Van Der Beek, who died last week at the age of 48.
Mayor Mamdani’s proposal to increase property taxes angers homeowners in Queens
Residents in Queens were both angry and disappointed Thursday night in reaction to Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposal to increase property taxes.
They say he promised affordable housing for his entire campaign and has now made an about face.
“I don’t plan to move. It’s my home. I’m not leaving,” said homeowner Vivian Campbell.

“Mayor Zohran Mamdani you, are out your goddamn mind?” said homeowner, James Johnson.
“To the mayor, with the greatest respect, and every campaign speech and every debate where you engaged, we opened our ears to listen,” said homeowner, Pierry Benjamin. “Now today, accept the words echoing from us now, do your job as mayor and leave our taxes out.”
To close a $5.4 billion budget gap, the mayor says he has two options: convince Governor Kathy Hochul to tax the wealthy, which she refuses to do, or raise the city property tax rate by 9.5%.

Now that one of their sacred things has been burned, arson is suddenly bad? Property suddenly matters? Good to know.
Fire damages Renee Good memorial in south Minneapolis, City Council member says
The memorial for Renee Good, who was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, was set on fire Tuesday night, a Minneapolis City Council member said.
Jason Chavez, who represents the area where Good was killed, said someone poured gasoline on a fenced part of the memorial at 33rd Street and Portland Avenue. Witnesses say they found gas canisters on the ground after dousing the flames.
The Minneapolis Police Department said someone set fire to a pile of wood, and the fire was extinguished by the time officers arrived around 8:45 p.m. No one was injured, but several items at the memorial site were damaged.
“This is despicable,” Chavez wrote in a social media post.
Neighbors and observers worked to extinguish the fire, according to Chavez.
“This was a clear case of arson in my opinion, and I hope whoever did it is held accountable,” said Ryan Vizzions, an independent photojournalist who took photos of the fire while holding a camera in one hand and a fire extinguisher in the other.
