U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced Thursday that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is withholding a staggering $73,502,543 in federal highway funds from the state of New York.

Because far-left New York Democrats under Governor Kathy Hochul have flat-out refused to revoke thousands of illegally issued nondomiciled commercial learner’s permits (CLPs) and commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) handed out in violation of federal law.

Back in December 2025, The Gateway Pundit reported on the FMCSA audit that flagged New York as one of the worst offenders in the nation for rubber-stamping CDLs to non-domiciled drivers, many of them illegal aliens or migrants whose temporary work authorizations had lapsed.

“When more than half of the licenses reviewed were issued illegally, it isn’t just a mistake—it is a dereliction of duty by state leadership. Gov. Hochul must immediately revoke these illegally issued licenses. If they refuse to follow the law, we will withhold federal highway funding,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy at the time. “This administration will never stop fighting to keep you and your family safe on our roads.”

On Thursday, the Trump administration stripped the state of New York of more than $73 million in federal highway funding after it failed to revoke thousands of improperly issued commercial learner’s permits and CDLs.

According to DOT:

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy today announced that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is withholding over $73 million from the State of New York for failing to revoke illegally issued non-domiciled commercial learner’s permits (CLPs) and commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs).

“I promised the American people I would hold any state leader accountable for failing to keep them safe from unvetted, unqualified foreign drivers. I’m delivering on that promise today by refusing to fund Governor Hochul’s dangerous, anti-American policies. My message to New York’s far left leadership is clear: families must be prioritized on American roads,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy.

“FMCSA’s mission is safety. That means ensuring that every commercial driver on the road is properly vetted and qualified. New York’s continued refusal to fix these failures undermines that mission, and we will not allow federal dollars to support a system that falls short of the law,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek Barrs.

Reminder:

FMCSA’s audit of New York’s non-domiciled CDL issuance practices found numerous failures by the state of New York including:

  • Out of 200 sampled records, 107 were issued in violation of federal law—a failure rate of over 53%.
  • The DMV’s systems defaulted to issuing 8-year licenses to foreign drivers for non-REAL ID licenses, regardless of when their legal status expired.

Additional Information:

On December 12, FMCSA found that, following a nationwide audit of CDLs, the New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) had been routinely issuing CDLs to foreign drivers illegally. The federal audit exposed a 53% failure rate in the records sampled, indicating a total collapse in the administration of New York’s non-domiciled CDL program.

On March 13, FMCSA issued a formal response refuting the state’s claims of compliance and reiterating that New York had failed to complete required corrective actions, including the immediate rescission of all noncompliant non-domicile CLPs and CDLs.

After the state’s continuous refusal to remove these dangerous drivers from the road, FMCSA has issued a final determination of substantial noncompliance and moved to withhold $73,502,543.This represents 4% of New York’s National Highway Performance Program and Surface Transportation Program Block Grant funds.

Meanwhile, California has already lost nearly $200 million for the same nonsense. Now, New York is joining the club.

President Donald Trump didn’t hold back again when a reporter tried to corner him outside the White House on the latest horrors coming out of the blood-soaked Iranian regime.

Tehran is ramping up its barbaric crackdown on the brave anti-regime protesters who rose up in January 2026.

Now they’re set to execute four more innocent souls, including the first female protester, Bita Hemmati, along with her husband and two others.

These are the same freedom-loving Iranians who risked everything to stand against the ayatollahs’ tyranny.

The Jerusalem Post reported:

Judge Iman Afshari, of Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, sentenced Hemmati, her husband, Mohammadreza Majidi Asl, and Behrouz Zamaninezhad, and Kourosh Zamaninezhad to death on the charge of “operational action for the hostile government of the United States and hostile groups,” in addition to discretionary imprisonment period of five years on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security.”

A fifth defendant, Amir Hemmati, was sentenced to five years of discretionary imprisonment on the charge of “assembly and collusion against national security,” and eight months in prison for “propaganda against the regime,” according to HRANA.

The four sentenced to death were arrested while demonstrating in Tehran and subjected to torture before their sentencing, according to a press release by the National Council of Resistance of Iran. HRANA also purported to have received evidence that the defendants were forced to confess.

[…]

The charges listed by the Iranian regime’s judiciary included allegedly “using explosives and weapons, harming stationed forces on-site, throwing objects including bottles, concrete blocks, and incendiary materials from the roofs of buildings, destroying public property, participating in protest gatherings, and chanting protest slogans.” However, HRANA claimed to have obtained a copy of the verdict, which failed to detail how the defendants were involved in the allegations.

Authorities also accused them of acting in line with disrupting national security and in connection with “hostile groups,” as well as sending content with the aim of undermining security.

A reporter pressed President Trump on what message he had for the Iranian regime as they prepare to hang these protesters.

Trump delivered one of his classic, no-nonsense zingers: “Tell that to the Pope.”

WATCH:

President Trump just pointed straight at the real problem: a “liberal Pope” who’s been lecturing America and Israel about peace and dialogue while the bloodthirsty Iranian regime slaughters its own people in the streets.

Trump was pointing out the obvious hypocrisy in the globalist crowd that loves to lecture America while the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism slaughters its own citizens.

This comes as the far-left Pope Leo XIV has been out there blasting President Trump’s hardline stance on Iran, calling tough American leadership “unacceptable” and pushing for more negotiations with the very regime that’s currently executing women and dissidents in the streets.

The Pope wants “peace” with the mullahs? Tell that to the families of the 42,000 innocent, unarmed protesters the regime has already murdered in the last two months alone.

Singer d4vd Finally Arrested in Gruesome Killing of 14-Year-Old Girl — Seven Months After Her Body Was Found Decomposing Inside His Tesla
April 17, 2026

Rising alt-pop singer d4vd, real name David Anthony Burke, has finally been arrested for the horrific murder of a 14-year-old girl whose dismembered, decomposing body was discovered rotting inside the front trunk of his Tesla.

Los Angeles Police Department officials confirmed Thursday that the 20-year-old Houston-born singer was taken into custody without bail in connection with the September 2025 slaying of Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

The teen’s remains, wrapped in cadaver bags, partially frozen, decapitated, and hacked into pieces, were found by horrified first responders responding to reports of a foul odor emanating from an abandoned, dented Tesla towed from the Hollywood Hills.

NBC Los Angeles reported:

According to the filing in LA Superior Court to compel the appearance of an out-of-state witness, prosecutors wrote that Rivas Hernandez’s remains were discovered on Sept. 8 after a tow yard manager reported the smell of decay coming from the Tesla, which was registered to Burke.

[…]

The Texas judge rejected the efforts to block the enforcement of the demands for testimony Feb. 2, according to a transcript of a hearing.

The Burke witnesses were ordered to appear for testimony the week of Feb. 9, but because grand jury proceedings are secret until an indictment is produced, it’s not known if they ever appeared.

Citing the ongoing investigation the LA County Department of Medical Examiner removed public information about the case last November, which indicated at the time that the cause of Rivas Hernandez’s death was still undetermined.

Law enforcement sources told NBC4 Investigates last year that they believe Rivas Hernandez died in the spring of 2025, and that more than one person may have been involved in her death and the attempted disposal of her body.

[…]

LAPD detectives searched a home in the Hollywood Hills where Burke was said to be living and were seen removing bags and various items of potential evidence. The home was not far from the street where the Tesla was ticketed and impounded in early September.

According to multiple reports, the Tesla was registered directly to Burke. The car sat impounded for months.

Celeste was last seen in Southern California after reportedly telling family members she was going to meet Burke.

The victim’s mother had previously spoken out, raising questions about any possible relationship or grooming involving the young singer and the missing teen. Yet, in typical blue-city fashion, justice moved at a snail’s pace, seven full months of delays.

More from the KTLA,

The Tesla was parked on Bluebird Avenue, not far from a Hollywood Hills rental home that Burke was living in, before it was towed. Detectives later served a search warrant at the home where several pieces of evidence were seized.

On Nov. 18, 2025, LAPD sources told KTLA that Burke was considered a suspect in Hernandez’s death.

The teen had been missing from Lake Elsinore since April 2024, when she was just 13. The potential relationship between her and Burke has been a critical part of the investigation, with images that have surfaced online, which appear to show the two together.

The girl’s mother had told investigators that she had a boyfriend named David at the time of her disappearance.

The two reportedly have matching tattoos on their right index fingers with the letters “Shhh.” Friends in Burke’s circle also reportedly believed Hernandez was 19 years old.

Jerome Powell Now Considering Move to Spite Trump: Report

Jerome Powell Now Considering Move to Spite Trump: Report

Jerome Powell Now Considering Move to Spite Trump: Report
April 17, 2026

In the ongoing feud between President Donald Trump and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, it’s not the president who appears ready to fire off the latest salvo.

Rather, it appears Powell is planning a move against the man who has long been tied to his potential ouster, per Politico.

The liberal outlet reported that Powell may now look to stick around at the Fed even after his chairmanship expires.

Powell is now “far more open” to staying after his chairmanship expires, potentially in a governorship role, Politico reported.

Of note, Powell’s board term doesn’t end until 2028, while his chair term ends on May 15 — potentially setting up another two years of feuding with Trump.

The core issue at hand is Powell’s general refusal to have the central bank lower interest rates, which Trump and his administration have been asking for, and consider key to boosting the economy.

While it has mostly been a war of words, things appeared to escalate when the Department of Justice opened up an investigation into Powell about his alleged misuse of building renovation funds.

As reported by ABC News in January, the Justice Department formally opened up a criminal investigation into Powell, which the chair confirmed in a statement.

Powell confirmed that “the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas, threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June. That testimony concerned in part a multi-year project to renovate historic Federal Reserve office buildings.”

He continued, “I have deep respect for the rule of law and for accountability in our democracy. No one — certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve — is above the law. But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration’s threats and ongoing pressure.”

“This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. It is not about Congress’s oversight role; the Fed through testimony and other public disclosures made every effort to keep Congress informed about the renovation project. Those are pretexts,” he continued.

“The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.”

Politico’s report made clear that Powell is bristling against this heat, prompting his sudden consideration of adopting a governor role after his chairmanship expires.

Powell apparently took particular umbrage at the president’s latest threat to fire him — if he doesn’t step down on May 15 — which occurred during a Wednesday Fox News interview:

But while Powell may be considering staying out of spite toward Trump, the president’s top choice to replace the current chair apparently has widespread Republican support in the Senate.

Kevin Warsh, a staunch critic of Powell, was announced in January as Trump’s pick to take the chairmanship.

Swalwell’s Collapse Leaves California Democrats Choosing Between a SOCIALIST BILLIONAIRE and an ANGRY KAREN

Swalwell’s Collapse Leaves California Democrats Choosing Between a SOCIALIST BILLIONAIRE and an ANGRY KAREN

Swalwell’s Collapse Leaves California Democrats Choosing Between a SOCIALIST BILLIONAIRE and an ANGRY KAREN
April 17, 2026

Protesters hold signs advocating for social justice and economic reform, while a speaker addresses the crowd, emphasizing the need for change.

WATCH: Who Will Be the Next California Governor?

The latest episode of The Patriot Perspective centers on the sudden collapse of Eric Swalwell’s gubernatorial campaign and, more importantly, the political vacuum it created within the California Democrat field.

With Swalwell out, the conversation has shifted from scandal to succession—who consolidates his support and emerges as the dominant Democrat in a race already shaped by structural advantages for the party.

The immediate takeaway from the discussion is that this is not a moment for new entrants, but for consolidation. As noted in the episode, major candidates have already spent months building campaign infrastructure—fundraising networks, volunteer bases, and voter outreach operations.

That reality makes it highly unlikely that an outsider will step in and compete effectively at this stage. Instead, the race is narrowing around existing figures, primarily Katie Porter and Tom Steyer.

Among those two, the trajectory appears increasingly clear. Porter entered the race with name recognition and a reputation for policy-focused campaigning, but her support has proven unstable. The episode highlights how her polling numbers initially showed strength before declining as Swalwell gained traction.

Now, with Swalwell gone, Porter has not fully absorbed his voter base, suggesting limitations in her appeal across the broader Democratic electorate.

By contrast, Tom Steyer has emerged as the primary beneficiary of Swalwell’s exit. According to the episode’s analysis, Steyer was already competitive before the shakeup and has now moved into a leading position among Democrat candidates.

His ability to self-fund gives him a structural advantage that cannot be easily replicated. Campaign financing remains one of the most decisive factors in statewide races, particularly in a state as large and expensive as California.

The episode also points to a broader strategic implication: the consolidation around Steyer reduces the risk of vote fragmentation within the Democrat field.

California’s jungle primary system creates a unique dynamic in which the top two candidates, regardless of party, advance to the general election.

Prior to Swalwell’s exit, there was a plausible scenario in which multiple Democrats split the vote, allowing two Republicans to advance. That outcome, while unlikely, posed a serious enough threat to incentivize party alignment.

Now, the field appears to be stabilizing.

Steyer’s rise positions him as the most viable Democrat contender heading into the next phase of the race, particularly as his policy platform aligns with the increasingly progressive direction of the party’s base. Meanwhile, Porter remains in contention but faces clear challenges in expanding her coalition.

Ultimately, the episode frames Swalwell’s departure not as an isolated political downfall, but as a catalyst for realignment. The Democrat primary is no longer fragmented; it is consolidating—and, at least for now, that consolidation favors Tom Steyer.
