In a devastating blow to Rep. Eric Swalwell’s political future, senior staff members from both his congressional office and his California gubernatorial campaign have publicly turned against him, releasing a scathing statement condemning his alleged conduct following explosive new reports of sexual assault and a video of him kissing a woman who is reportedly a sex worker.

The denunciation follows bombshell reports published Friday by the San Francisco Chronicle and CNN detailing sexual misconduct allegations from four women.

One of them, a staffer of two years, said she was raped by him twice.

The three other women accused him of various forms of sexual misconduct, including sending unsolicited nude photos.

The statement from Swalwell's staff read in full:

“As leaders of teams working for Eric Swalwell, we’re horrified by the recent reporting in the San Francisco Chronicle and by CNN.

We stand with our former colleague, and the other women who have come forward. We believe you should stand with them, too.

The behavior detailed in these reports is abhorrent, beneath the dignity of those serving in public office and betrays the trust of all Californians.

We also understand that we lead teams who need guidance and stability now, more than ever. We are focused on supporting our colleagues during this challenging time.

Any decision of staff members to remain in their roles in the interim should not be viewed as support for Eric Swalwell. We recognize that not everyone — in particular our junior staff — can immediately forfeit their income and benefits without significant personal risk or consequence. Our responsibility now is to them.

We, more than he, understand that we have obligations to the people we lead and to the constituents of California’s 14th Congressional District. Those of us that remain on staff do so for the sole purpose of ensuring that as many of those obligations are fulfilled as possible.”

The scandal has triggered a rapid collapse of his gubernatorial campaign.

Multiple top staffers resigned before the stories were even published, and high-profile endorsements have been pulled, including from Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s office has reportedly opened an investigation into the sexual assault allegations.

Swalwell has denied all of the allegations.

The Gateway Pundit reported on the tragic and brutal murder of United States Marine Daniel Montano, 21, in Wilmington NC, on Easter morning.

As WECT reported, Wilmington police responded to reports of fighting in the downtown area at roughly 2 am Sunday. There, they found that two people had been stabbed.

One of the victims was 21-year-old Daniel Montano, a United States Marine. He had been stabbed in the neck and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Unfortunately, Montano later died from his injuries.

After a manhunt for the perpetrator over several days, which included surveillance footage, the Wilmington Police Department (WPD) announced the arrest of Davy Spencer,47.

Spencer was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He is currently being held without bond, and his first court appearance is scheduled for April 13.

Spencer has an extensive prior criminal history in the area that goes back three decades and includes previous drug-related felonies. In 2015, he was sentenced as a habitual felon and has been incarcerated numerous times.

This arrest is in connection to a recent homicide that occurred in downtown Wilmington.

Around 2:00 a.m. last Sunday morning, officers responded to reports of multiple fights in the 100 block of North Front Street.

During the incident, 21-year-old Daniel Montano was stabbed by the suspect and succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts.

Bond information for Davy Spencer is not available at this time.

America is heading toward a demographic crisis, and the political left has played a central role in creating it.

The national birth rate has now fallen to roughly 1.56 births per woman, far below the 2.1 births per woman generally considered necessary for population replacement. No serious country can ignore a gap that large without consequences. 

A nation cannot continue shrinking its next generation and expect long-term economic strength, social stability, or fiscal sustainability.

Low birth rates carry direct economic and structural consequences. A smaller younger generation means a smaller future workforce. A smaller workforce means fewer taxpayers, fewer workers supporting entitlement programs, and fewer people available to sustain the institutions that hold the country together. 

That burden becomes even heavier as older generations retire and draw more heavily on Social Security, Medicare, and other public programs. When a country combines below-replacement fertility with an already expanding welfare state, the result is not simply stagnation but long-term decline.

The United States is now moving in that direction. The problem is not only that fewer children are being born, but that an entire political and cultural movement has spent years attacking the family, undermining the value of parenthood, and treating children less as a blessing and more as a burden.

That movement has been led overwhelmingly by Democrats and the institutions aligned with them. 

The modern left has built a political culture that prioritizes radical individualism, dependency on government, and hostility toward the traditional family structure that historically produced stable communities and national continuity.

Abortion has also played a major role in this decline. In 2025, more than 1.1 million abortions were performed in the United States. That number alone should force a national reckoning. 

A country already suffering from historically low fertility cannot afford to eliminate hundreds of thousands of future citizens every year and then pretend demographic decline emerged out of nowhere.

The same political coalition that claims to care about fairness, economic justice, and the future of younger generations continues to defend a system that reduces the size of those generations before they ever have a chance to live.

That reality will have lasting consequences for Generation Z and those who come after it. A smaller younger population will be expected to support a large retiring population while also dealing with debt, inflation, housing costs, and slower economic growth. 

Fewer workers will be asked to carry a larger burden. That is not a sustainable formula. It is a recipe for long-term national strain.

Democrats also have a political incentive to sustain a culture that weakens family formation. Marriage, parenthood, and community responsibility often change political behavior. 

People with children tend to think more seriously about school curriculum, neighborhood safety, taxes, cultural stability, and parental rights. Raising a family often makes politics more concrete, shifting attention away from abstract ideological slogans and toward the institutions that shape a child’s life.

That shift does not generally benefit the modern left, whose agenda depends heavily on weakening parental authority and expanding the role of the state.

A healthy society should want strong families, rising birth rates, and a culture that sees children as essential to the nation’s future. 

America should be making family formation easier, not harder. Public policy should reward marriage, support parents, and treat demographic decline as a national emergency. Instead, the country has spent years moving in the opposite direction.

No civilization can preserve its strength while refusing to reproduce itself. A country that cannot replace its own population eventually loses more than economic growth. It loses confidence, continuity, and the human foundation on which every serious nation depends. 

America’s birth-rate decline reflects political choices, cultural priorities, and a left-wing worldview that has treated family life as optional, inconvenient, or even oppressive.

I’ve been in bar fights. Real ones. The kind where you find out very quickly who your friends actually are.

Here’s the code every veteran, every operator, every person who has ever had to make a split-second decision about loyalty understands at a bone-deep level: you show up. Whether your buddy started it or not. Whether he’s right or wrong. Whether the odds are good or bad. You get off your barstool, you stand beside him, and you sort out the details after the fists stop flying. That’s not bravado. That’s the foundational contract of any alliance worth the name.

For seventy-five years, America has honored that contract with NATO. Every time. Without conditions. We showed up in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, Libya, and most recently Ukraine, where I personally and so many other Americans helped integrate supply chains, equipment, and logistics after Russia came across the border. Not as a government official. As an American who understood what the moment required and had the relationships to act.

Europe, now, has largely watched from the barstool.

The frustration is not new. And it is not partisan. I remember standing aboard Air Force One, waiting for President Trump to board, with Secretary James Mattis shortly after he returned from a NATO meeting where he had delivered the Trump administration’s blunt message: pay your fair share. I asked him, “What did you say to them?” He looked at me and said simply: “I asked them, who is going to care more about your kids than you?”

He was trying to shame them off the barstool. A four-star Marine general, reduced to appealing to basic parental instinct because decades of diplomatic pressure had produced nothing.

He wasn’t the first to try. Barack Obama told The Atlantic flatly: “Free riders aggravate me.” Atlantic Council Obama, Bush, Gates, all pulled at Europe’s sleeve. All got varying degrees of nowhere. Trump finally got results. At the 2025 NATO summit, member nations committed to 5% GDP defense spending, a commitment NATO Secretary General Rutte credited directly to Trump’s pressure. White House Credit where it’s due.

But writing a bigger check is not the same as getting off the barstool. Iran has just proven that beyond any reasonable doubt.

A source close to the White House, quoted recently in Politico, said what every operator and frontline veteran has been saying privately for years: “It’s like these [expletive] always talk about Article Five, Article Five, Article Five. Iran has been blowing up our soldiers and ripping their wings off for half a century, and we finally responded, and now they’re going after all our major non-NATO allies and the United States, and you guys are not only saying you’re not going to help but you’re closing your airspace to us. Really?”

Read that again. Closing their airspace. Not troops. Not treasure. Not even a strongly worded statement of solidarity. Just: you may not fly over our territory to defend the alliance we all signed up for, the same alliance whose Article 5 guarantees you’ve been invoking like a prayer since 1949.

Think about what that means in bar fight terms. Your mate is in the middle of a brawl. The other guy has been throwing punches for fifty years. Your mate finally swings back — hard. And rather than stand up, his so-called friends at the bar won’t even move their chairs out of the way.

When Washington drew up military plans to strike Iran, those plans included the use of both Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford, bases the United States has defended, funded, and operated from for generations. The War Zone The UK government initially refused the request.

Iran struck a British RAF base in Cyprus with a drone on March 1st. British sovereign territory was being hit. London’s first instinct was still to check with the lawyers.

In a bar fight, that’s the moment you realize the guy you’ve been covering for twenty years just watched you take a bottle to the head and asked the bartender for a napkin.

Article 5 has been invoked exactly once, September 12, 2001. In the wars that followed, America’s NATO allies lost over a thousand troops in combat over twenty years. CBS NewsThat matters. They showed up for us after 9/11, and I will never diminish that. But here was a moment requiring nothing remotely close to that commitment. No boots on the ground. No declaration of war. Just: let the Americans use the bases we already pay for, and don’t close your airspace when we’re fighting a regime that arms Moscow’s proxies in the very war you claim is Europe’s existential priority.

Europe couldn’t manage even that.

America makes mistakes when we act. But Europe never asks the harder question: what is the cost of not acting? What has fifty years of appeasement and accommodation cost in Iranian aggression? What does it cost when the world’s energy jugular gets held hostage and your allies won’t even open their airspace to help clear it?

The bar fight doctrine is unambiguous: you show up for your mate. Every time. Without waiting to see how it plays out. Without consulting your lawyers. Without checking whether your airspace permission forms are in order. That’s what Article 5 was supposed to mean. That’s what America has delivered, imperfectly but consistently…for three quarters of a century.

Mattis tried to shame them off the barstool. Obama called them freeloaders. Trump stopped being polite with them. The question Europe must now answer is brutally simple: when the fight comes, and it will come, are you in it? Or are you the guy nursing his drink, watching from a safe distance, fully expecting us to bleed on your behalf?

The U.S. Coast Guard has made a drug bust valued at more than $33 million as part of an interdiction effort launched by the Trump administration last year.

The U.S. Coast Guard cutter Escanaba seized 4,510 pounds of cocaine, worth $33.9 million, while on an Easter Sunday patrol in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, according to a Department of Homeland Security news release.

A U.S. patrol aircraft alerted the Escanaba after it spotted a suspected narco-terrorist vessel, and the crew started throwing suspected contraband overboard.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was launched after the contact off the coast of Ecuador.

The release said that the cutter “deployed its over-the-horizon cutter pursuit boat crew and relaunched the helicopter aircrew to recover the contraband.”

The action was part of Operation Pacific Viper.

A 2025 news release noted that “Operation Pacific Viper is part of a wider effort ordered by President Trump to combat foreign drug cartels in Latin America.”

During the ongoing operations, “the men and women of the Coast Guard will continue deploying overwhelming force against the cartels, cutting off the flow of drugs into the United States and put an end to the cartel’s reign of terror,” the release said.

The release noted that the first 19 operations netted a total of illegal drugs worth $473 million, including 61,740 pounds of cocaine and about 14,400 pounds of marijuana.

After the most recent seizure, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said that “Operation Pacific Viper plays a central part of President Trump’s fight against the cartels at sea, cutting off their ability to make money by trafficking their poison into our country.”

“This operation has already seized over 215,000 pounds of cocaine and has arrested over 160 suspected narco-traffickers. The brave men and women of the Coast Guard are saving American lives by keeping these deadly drugs out of our communities and off our streets,” he added.

The release said that the Coast Guard “has surged cutters, aircraft, and tactical teams to interdict, seize, and disrupt the flow of cocaine and other illicit drugs.”

“These efforts are a critical part of the Trump administration’s strategy to fight narco-terrorism and dismantle transnational criminal organizations,” the release said.

Through Operation Pacific Viper, the Coast Guard has taken in 215,000 pounds of cocaine and detained 160 suspected narco-traffickers.

In one November 2025 seizure, the Coast Guard cutter Stone offloaded more than 49,000 pounds of illicit drugs worth $362 million.
