Former Democrat Rep. Barney Frank has entered hospice care.

Barney Frank, 86, is in hospice care at his home in Maine, where he resides with his husband. Frank is suffering from congestive heart failure.

Barney Frank was one of the Democrat Reps who authored the Dodd-Frank bill, which was put in place after the 2008 bank crash.

The government arguably caused the failure and then turned around and put in a massive amount of regulations in response to the failure.

The Dodd-Frank bill put enormous strain on smaller banks, and eventually, some of the regulations were rolled back.

Ironically, Barney Frank sat on the board of Signature Bank, a New York-based commercial bank that collapsed in 2023 after depositors withdrew money in a panic amid a string of bank failures.

Politico reported:

Former Rep. Barney Frank, a liberal icon who was a key architect of the landmark Wall Street regulations Democrats enacted in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, has entered hospice care at his home in Maine. And as one of his last acts, he is preparing to release a book repudiating his party’s left flank.

A champion of liberal causes during his 32 years representing Massachusetts in the House, Frank says progressive Democrats have “embraced an agenda that goes beyond what’s politically acceptable.”

“Until we separate ourselves from that agenda, we don’t win,” he said in an interview Tuesday.

Frank, who served in the House from 1981 to 2013, said he feels “very good — no pain, no discomfort,” but has entered hospice care as he deals with congestive heart failure. He is remaining in his home in Ogunquit, Maine, where he moved with his husband after retiring from Congress.

“At 86, I’ve made it longer than I thought,” Frank said. “At some point, my heart’s just going to give out, and it’s reaching that stage. So I’m taking it easy at home and dealing with it by relaxing.”

A new national survey suggests the battle for Congress remains wide open, with Republicans and Democrats deadlocked heading into the 2026 midterms.

The Harvard CAPS/HarrisX poll, conducted April 23 to 26 among 2,745 registered voters, found 50 percent support for each party on the generic congressional ballot.

The survey carries a margin of error of 1.87 percent.

Voter engagement shows a slight Republican edge.

Among GOP respondents, 62 percent said they will definitely vote, compared to 59 percent of Democrats.

Another 18 percent of Republicans said they would probably vote, versus 17 percent of Democrats.

Independent voters lean slightly Democratic, breaking 52 percent to 48 percent, though overall turnout among independents trails both major parties.

On presidential performance, voters are evenly divided. Half say President Donald Trump is doing better than Joe Biden, while half say worse.

Trump’s overall approval rating stands at 42 percent approve, and 53 percent disapprove, improving to 46 percent approve and 51 percent disapprove among likely midterm voters.

Economic concerns remain the priority of most Americans. Inflation and affordability rank as the top issues for 35 percent of voters, followed by the economy and jobs at 28 percent.

Immigration registers at 24 percent, health care at 22 percent, the U.S.-Iran conflict at 20 percent, and corruption at 18 percent.

The results cast doubt on the idea that Democrats are cruising towards a so-called “blue wave” in November.

However, the latest RealClearPolling average has Democrats up 5.4 percent on the Congressional ballot.

Some polls, such as Quinnipac, show Democrats up by as much as 11 percent, while Rasmussen and Morning Consult have them up by just three percent.

The Harvard poll also found Kamala Harris as the current frontrunner for the Democratic nomination in 2028, trailed by Gavin Newsom at 22 percent and Josh Shapiro at 9 percent.

Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance remains way out in front on the Republican side, with 48 percent support.

The Telegraph reported:

“An Indian billionaire’s son has offered to provide a new home for the feral hippos introduced to Colombia by Pablo Escobar, the late drug lord.

Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Asia’s richest man, has told the Colombian government to reverse its decision to cull 80 of the animals that have been wreaking havoc on rivers in the country. ‘These 80 hippos did not choose where they were born, nor did they create the circumstances they now face’, Mr. Ambani said.”

Colombian officials have approved the plan to kill (or ‘cull’) the 80 animals, since the government ‘had exhausted all other options to control their numbers’.

“Colombia is the only country outside Africa with a hippo population living wild, after Escobar, the founder of the Medellín cartel, imported four of the large mammals for a private zoo on his ranch.

After his death in 1993 at 44, the animals made a new life on river banks, procreating quickly. They have attacked fishermen and displaced native species.”

The Department of Justice indicted Dr. David M. Morens, longtime senior advisor to Anthony Fauci at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), on felony charges on Tuesday, including conspiracy against the United States; destruction, alteration, or falsification of records in federal investigations; concealment, removal, or mutilation of records; and aiding and abetting.

Morens, 78, allegedly helped orchestrate a scheme to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Department of Justice, Morens and his co-conspirators used his personal Gmail account to hide communications about restoring NIH funding to EcoHealth Alliance’s controversial bat coronavirus grant, the same grant tied to the Wuhan Institute of Virology that was terminated over lab-leak concerns.

They also worked to push the “natural origins” narrative and suppress alternative theories.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche called it “a profound abuse of trust” at the height of the pandemic.

FBI Director Kash Patel vowed the FBI “will not stop until you face justice.”

The taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project (WCW), which first exposed NIH’s gain-of-function funding in Wuhan and the infamous “Beaglegate” dog experiments, applauded the indictment but warned that Morens was not acting alone.

The organization also has the evidence to back it up.

In a blistering statement provided to The Gateway Pundit, WCW Senior Vice President Justin Goodman said:

On Tuesday afternoon, Sen. Chuck Schumer held a press conference, taking aim at President Trump’s new ballroom and blaming Republicans for the failure to pass a new DHS spending bill.

Schumer attended the press conference with a noticeably large bandage on his forehead, prompting one reporter to ask what had happened to it.

In response to the reporter’s question, Schumer shared that a “closet door was opened late at night and it met my forehead.”

Schumer, after answering the question, went on a rant regarding President Trump’s ballroom and stated, “We don’t need this ballroom; you want to help national security, the ballroom has nothing to do with it. Help national security by funding DHS.”

The Senator from New York added, “We don’t want to fund it, we don’t want to approve it, it is not necessary, it’s typical of what’s wrong with Donald Trump, focusing on the wrong things that appease his ego.”

Schumer’s comments come just days after 31-year-old Cole Allen allegedly opened fire inside the Washington Hilton Hotel during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The Trump administration and House Republicans have defended the ballroom plans, arguing that incidents like the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner highlight the need for a venue capable of accommodating large crowds.
