Drone light shows have become an attractive alternative to fireworks, and when done right, can be an amazing form of entertainment.

However, if it goes wrong, it can become quite a dangerous affair.

That was unfortunately the case in Sydney, Australia, where almost 90 drones fell from the sky over Darling Harbour during a traditional winter light show.

BBC reported:

“Organizers of Vivid Sydney, an annual three-week festival that features large light installations, said the malfunction on Monday evening, local time, was due to ‘unforeseen technical difficulties’ and has cancelled two upcoming shows.

Footage of Monday’s show captured dozens of drones as they tumbled out of the night sky, leaving bystanders confused by the aerial display.”

The British company behind the show blamed ‘a change in radio frequency’ for the glitch, and said that none of the drones fell outside ‘safety boundaries’.

“’During the performance on the evening of 25 May, Skymagic experienced a technical issue that resulted in 89 drones landing in the water around Cockle Bay’, a Skymagic spokesperson said, referring to the wharf area in Darling Harbour. The main cause was ‘an unforeseen change in the radio frequency environment occurring after take-off’, Skymagic said, triggering some drones ‘to enact failsafe landing procedures in response to compromised positional accuracy’.”

Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett is calling for the return of hanging as a federal execution method in response to one of the most depraved crimes in recent memory: the months-long torture, rape, and murder of 19-year-old Isabella Stroupe in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In a viral X post on Sunday, Burchett directly quoted a detailed account of Stroupe’s horrific death and asserted, “I have a bill to bring back hanging. Let’s see if all the tough talk by Congress holds up. Support the Drop Act.”

Stroupe, 19, was found dead in an east Charlotte apartment in early May.

According to court affidavits and police reports, she had been bound to a bed with a tow strap, wearing minimal clothing, and subjected to months of torture inside the residence she shared with her boyfriend.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested 24-year-old Thomaz Kenon Hamilton on May 5. He faces charges of first-degree murder and first-degree rape.

Hamilton initially called 911, claiming Stroupe was not breathing, but investigators uncovered overwhelming evidence of prolonged abuse, including weapons, blood-stained items, and cell phones at the scene.

Rep. Burchett’s legislation, the DROP Act, would explicitly authorize hanging as a legal method of execution for federal death penalty cases.

Burchett introduced the bill to force Congress to confront whether it truly supports tough-on-crime policies when faced with the most heinous offenders.

The congressman has emphasized that certain violent predators, especially those who commit prolonged torture, rape, and murder, do not deserve to live out their lives on taxpayer-funded prison sentences.

The first recorded hanging in what would become the United States occurred in 1623, when Daniel Frank was executed in the Jamestown colony for cattle theft.

By 1630, John Billington became one of the first men hanged in New England after he was convicted of murder.

Throughout the colonial era and into the early republic, hanging was the standard, practical, and widely accepted method for crimes ranging from murder and rape to treason.

Public executions drew large crowds as a deterrent, with gallows becoming a familiar fixture in town squares.

Until the 1890s, hanging remained the primary method of execution across nearly every state and at the federal level because it was simple, inexpensive, and required no advanced technology.

By the early 20th century, occasional botched executions, where the condemned suffered slow strangulation rather than a quick broken neck, prompted states to seek alternatives.

The electric chair, gas chamber, and eventually lethal injection gradually replaced hanging in most jurisdictions.

Public hangings ended after the 1936 execution of Rainey Bethea in Owensboro, Kentucky, the last one open to general spectators.

The final state-level hanging took place on January 25, 1996, when Billy Bailey was executed by his own choice in Delaware. The last federal hanging occurred decades earlier, in 1963, when Victor Feguer was put to death in Iowa.

Currently, no state actively uses hanging as a primary method, or even as a routine secondary method.

The DROP Act would restore it as an authorized federal option, returning to a proven, centuries-old American tradition of swift and certain justice for the most heinous crimes.

This isn’t just standard political rhetoric; it’s a calculated war on private enterprise. Insiders warn that the Mamdani administration, alongside radical housing transition allies like Marxist-style organizer Cea Weaver, is manufacturing a crisis to force property owners to give up, according to The Heritage Foundation.

The Heritage Foundation added that the scheme is dangerously simple:

1. The Rent Freeze Squeeze: Force a complete, multi-year rent freeze on rent-stabilized properties, making it economically impossible for mom-and-pop landlords to maintain aging infrastructure.

2. Weaponized Code Enforcement: Hit these struggling, middle-class owners with sky-high fines and crippling regulatory penalties for “deferred maintenance.”

3. The Government Buyout: Once the owners are thoroughly bankrupted and desperate, step in as a “market actor” to forcibly transfer the real estate to progressive allies.

A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a bid to block Tennessee’s new Congressional map that eliminates a racially gerrymandered district.

Earlier this month, Tennessee Republicans passed a new congressional map that eliminated Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen’s Memphis district.

Tennessee became the ninth state to approve a new congressional map amid the redistricting wars.

A judge previously allowed Tennessee’s new congressional map to stand.

Tennessee Republicans eliminated Cohen’s congressional district after the Supreme Court’s blockbuster ruling on racial gerrymandering.

The case, State of Louisiana v. Phillip Callais (and the related Press Robinson v. Phillip Callais), stems from Louisiana’s woke lawmakers caving to left-wing judges and creating a second “majority-minority” congressional district.

Last week, longtime Democrat Rep. Steve Cohen ended his reelection bid after Tennessee Republicans erased his district with a newly drawn congressional map.

Cohen has served as a Rep for Tennessee’s ‘majority-black’ 9th congressional district (Memphis) since 2007.

He previously served in the Tennessee Senate for more than two decades.

However, Cohen’s political career came to an abrupt end after the Tennessee Republicans eliminated his district.

On Tuesday, US District Judge William Campbell, a Trump appointee, denied a request for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to block the newly drawn map.

The ACLU and ACLU of Tennessee filed a lawsuit on behalf of black voters and Memphis-based organizations.

The Hill reported:

A federal judge rejected a challenge to temporarily block a new set of GOP-favored congressional lines in Tennessee on Tuesday, delivering a blow to Democrats who are all but expected to appeal the ruling as they look to undo new GOP redistricting.

U.S. Chief District Judge William L. Campbell Jr. denied a request from several Black Memphis voters and organizations — represented by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and ACLU of Tennessee — to temporarily halt the use of a new GOP-favored House map in the Volunteer State until a three-judge panel could weigh the merits of their case.

The voters argued in their filing that the new congressional map passed by Tennessee Republicans — which dismantles Rep. Steve Cohen’s (D-Tenn.) majority-Black district and creates a 9-0 GOP-favored House map — was racially discriminatory and was instituted in the midst of candidate filing deadlines before an upcoming August primary.
