A New York Times employee suffered a brutal death in a family-related incident over the weekend in California.

The New York Post reported on Monday that 40-year-old Jonathan McKinsey was allegedly killed by his Chinese in-laws in the parking lot of Dublin Sports Grounds in Dublin, California, around 3.p.m Saturday.

Witnesses revealed that they had seen two masked assailants approach McKinsey, who served as the Times’ head of engineering for games player experience, in the lot before his death. Then, the shooters identified as Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, who are both 77 years of age, took turns blasting bullets into McKinsey.

A passing cop later arrested them.

The Post reports that police patrolling the area noticed McKinsey with multiple gunshot wounds while emergency dispatch began receiving 911 calls.

First responders attempted to revive McKinsey upon arrival at the scene, but it was too late.

The Post reports that Zhang and Chen were booked into Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of murder. McKinsey had been married to their daughter, Candice Jang.

Images allegedly showed the Chinese couple being taken into custody. Footage from the scene also showed a body lying in the parking lot in broad daylight.

Booking records obtained by the New York Post show that Zhang and Chen have been charged with several offenses related to McKinsey’s death.

These include first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, dangerously firing a gun, and child endangerment that could’ve caused major injury or death.

Police have not released a motive for the killing of McKinsey at this time.

McKinsey began working for The New York Times in 2023. Before heading up the Times’ games platform, McKinsey was an engineering manager at Splunk and had studied at UC Berkeley.

Zhang and Chen are being held in jail without the possibility of parole.

Their arraignment has been scheduled for Wednesday.

New York Democrats just lost again.

A second federal judge has now struck down Gov. Kathy Hochul’s Climate Change Superfund Act, the Albany scheme that tried to shake down American and foreign energy companies for $75 billion over alleged “local effects” of climate change.

According to a Department of Justice press release issued Monday, U.S. District Judge P. Kevin Castel of the Southern District of New York granted the United States’ motion for summary judgment last week, declared the statute unconstitutional, and permanently enjoined the state from enforcing it.

Castel, a George W. Bush appointee, found that New York’s law is preempted on two independent grounds: the federal Clean Air Act and the foreign affairs doctrine. The court also held that the United States has standing to defend its sovereign authority over interstate emissions and foreign policy.

That is the second knockout in a month.

As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier this month, Chief Judge Brenda K. Sannes, an Obama appointee in the Northern District of New York, already shredded the same statute, calling it an “unusual and sweeping” law that was “simply beyond the limits of state law.”

Now Manhattan has piled on.

“New York’s woke climate change law is not only unconstitutional, it is harmful, jeopardizing every American’s access to affordable and reliable energy,” Associate Attorney General Stanley E. Woodward, Jr. said in the Justice Department statement.

“We are pleased with the district courts’ decisions finding New York’s law unlawful and recognizing that the Federal Sovereign, not the States, regulates our Nation’s energy market. This Department of Justice will take every step to stop those who wish to thwart President Trump’s agenda to unleash American energy dominance.”

Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of the Energy and Natural Resources Division added: “Both federal judges to consider New York’s Climate Change Superfund Act have held it unconstitutional. Both hold that the federal government is responsible for setting national policy on global pollution, not states.”

Hochul signed the law in December 2024. As The Gateway Pundit first reported at the time, the statute ordered large oil, gas, and coal producers to pour $3 billion a year for 25 years into a state-run “climate adaptation” slush fund.

The targets were not limited to companies operating in New York. Regulators in Albany claimed the power to assign strict liability to any firm they decided was responsible for more than one billion tons of greenhouse-gas emissions between 2000 and 2018 — including extraction and refining that happened halfway around the world.

No finding of illegal conduct was required. Past legal production was enough.

According to Reuters, the first payments were supposed to start in 2028. Vermont passed a similar law. Other blue states were lining up to copy it.

Elon Musk is criticizing New York’s voting rules after his mother, Maye Musk, said a woman at a polling place angrily knocked away the ID she offered while voting.

Maye Musk, the 78-year-old model, dietitian, and author, was responding to a list of the 14 states that still refuse to require voter ID at the polls. Those states, as conservatives have noted for years, reliably deliver Democratic wins.

That is not a first for Maye. During the 2024 cycle she said early voting in New York City required no ID at all and that workers “won’t even look at your ID.” Later she described being told to sign a form, stuff it in an envelope, and drop it in a box while the worker “refused to see my ID.”

After his mother, Maye Musk, described being met with hostility when she tried to show identification at a New York polling place, the X owner dropped a charge that Democrats in the country’s two largest blue states have spent years pretending is “disinformation.”

Don’t take Musk’s word for it. Take Letitia James.

The New York Attorney General’s official voting-resources page states, in black and white, that voters “are never required to present photo identification to cast an in-person ballot” and instructs New Yorkers: “If you see or hear of anyone improperly requesting voter identification, contact OAG.” Read it here.

Poll-worker guidance tracks the same line: do not ask for ID unless the voter file is already flagged. Signature matching is the substitute. No photo. No citizenship check at the table. Just a scribble.

That is why a poll worker would get angry at a woman holding out a government ID. The training says don’t look. The AG’s office says report the person who asks.

California is even more aggressive. In 2024, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Senate Bill 1174, which bars cities and counties from requiring identification at the polls, a direct strike at Huntington Beach after voters there passed their own ID rule. Courts later killed the local measure. Sacramento made sure no charter city could close the barn door.

As The Gateway Pundit reported last month, California still lets applicants register online with no driver’s license and no Social Security number. The state’s own acceptable-ID list for the rare first-time voter who actually gets asked includes a gym card, an insurance card, or a credit card.

You can vote for governor with a Planet Fitness membership. You cannot cash a paycheck with one.

The hypocrisy is not subtle.

According to Fox News, New York City demanded two photos, two original IDs, and a Social Security card from emergency snow shovelers last winter, the same city that tells election inspectors not to look at a voter’s license.

As The Gateway Pundit reported in August, Socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani floated ID requirements for his government grocery stores so people wouldn’t resell discounted food. President Trump’s response was the obvious one: they will check your papers to buy milk, but not to choose the people who run the country.

Need a beer? ID. Board a plane? ID. Pick up a prescription? ID. Decide who controls the House in November? In New York and California, that is treated like a poll tax.

President Trump is scheduled to make an announcement on plans for a $15 billion steel plant in Iowa during an event in the Oval Office this afternoon.

Trump had suggested that the announcement would center on AI, telling reporters that he had dinner plans at the White House with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. The comment came after he returned from the Presidents Cup golf tournament in Chicago late last night.

On Tuesday, Trump will also meet with Amodei and other top AI CEOs at the White House with House Speaker Mike Johnson.

However, reports suggest that Trump is set to announce that a new $15 billion steel mill, the largest in US history, will be built in eastern Iowa by Minnesota-based Mesabi Metallics.

Per Reuters:

Trump is expected to unveil ​the proposal at the White House with executives from Mesabi ​Metallics, which recently opened Minnesota's first new iron ore mine in 50 years, a White House official said.

The project will be fully vertically integrated, with ​Mesabi using iron ore from its Minnesota mine to produce steel in Iowa. ‌The ⁠first phase will produce 7.5 million tons of steel annually, with the plant eventually expected to reach 10 million tons, which the White House described as the largest steel plant in ​US history.

The ​Minnesota mine ⁠represents a $2.5 billion investment and is expected to create about 350 jobs, while the Iowa steel ​plant is expected to create at least 1,750 ​permanent ⁠jobs, the official said. The first phase is also expected to support 5,000 to 6,000 construction jobs, the official said.

"President Trump ⁠is delivering ​on his promise to rebuild American ​industry, reshore manufacturing, and create new jobs," White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said.
