The House is finally back in session after a long August Recess.

August Recess is something many Americans aren’t too found of given how little Congress physically shows up to Washington, DC each year.

In each chamber the Members of Congress work an average of three days a week and in 2026 alone each chamber will be in session less than 100 days out of the year.

Congress will also get the month of October off to campaign for the midterms and there are even rumors that Speaker Johnson is trying to send the House home before the end of the month, which is when they are scheduled to leave.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported on the growing frustration with August Recess and why it adds to the assumptions that Congress works less than the average American.

How much work did House Members actually get done during August Recess? Do members of Congress treat it as a district work period or an extended vacation? The Gateway Pundit spoke to lawmakers that returned from their respective states.

Rep. Suhas Subramanyam, D-VA, declared that “everyday brings a new adventure in Virginia” and that he is “proud of the community.”

“We got events every day. In fact this morning we had an unveiling of an airport that’s out of a commercial airport. Yesterday we just announced the graduation of a bunch of young trainees at Micron who are gonna do semiconductor work,” Subramanyam told TGP in an exclusive interview.

“Our regional airport, though, will help us get to more local places faster.”

Rep. Tim Burchett, R-TN, was rather blunt about his time back in Tennessee during August Recess, where he “worked his ass off.”

“I worked my ass of, dude. Met with people daily. A lot of Meetings. A lot of constituent services. Visited all the counties I represent,” Burchett told TGP in an exclusive interview.

“I would say I visited a lot of the state of Tennessee actually.”

Rep. Rich McCormick, R-GA, was excited to talk about his time in Georgia during August Recess and even took the opportunity to promote Data Center expansion, which he is a leading advocate on.

“I went all over Georgia, talked to a bunch of businesses, went to a data center, talked about that. That’s a huge topic right now. I’m trying to make sure we have all of our facts straight, because if were going to make an informed opinion on data centers, we gotta have all the fact,” McCormick told TGP in an exclusive interview.

McCormick also boasted that there are over 235 data centers in Georgia, which is more than the number of counties in the state. Georgia has 159 counties.

“We have more data centers than here in Virginia. Democrats would say we have 400 more data centers in Virginia than you have in Georgia. They’ve been around for a long time. People don’t even realize. They walk by them every day. They don’t make a bunch of noise. They don’t produce a big heat signature.”

The debate surrounding Data Centers has become a continuous issue, as critics argue data center expansion will raise powers bills and supporters argue that data center expansion will create jobs and infrastructure.

Rep. Marc Veasey, D-TX, focused on his community initiative that he dubbed “Marc Means Business,” where he works at a different place once a month to “better understand the challenges his constituents face on a daily basis.”

“I go and work at a different place once a month. The first one that I did was deliver packages for UPS. I’ve done baggage at American Airlines. I’ve worked at barbecue places, taquerias. I’ve built three-ring binders at the last place in America, in Fort Worth, Texas,” Veasey told TGP in an exclusive interview.

“I’ve done over 100 and I’ve did a lot of great things over the break, but that was my favorite. I love doing that and i’m gonna miss that the most anything when I leave next year.”

Veasey will be leaving Congress in early 2027, as he decided not to run for reelection after Texas Republicans carved out his district in the “Redistricting War.”

Rep. Jonathan Jackson, D-IL, used August Recess to focus on campaigning and fundraising, which adds to speculation that Members of Congress only care about their reelections.

“Many meetings, a lot of constituents I hadn’t been able to quite catch up with. I had to do a lot of fundraising and support other candidates,” Jackson told TGP in an exclusive interview.

“Retooling what needs to happen in the next 30, 60, 90 days. Were 70 days from the midterms.

This is the last month the House will be in session before the midterm elections and they might not even be here the entire month.

According to a lot of these House Members, they spend a lot of time with the community during August Recess, but how much of that time is spent with their constituents vs a simple photo op?

August Recess remains one of the most disapproved aspects of Congress to the general public.

An angry father who nearly lost his daughter to a reckless illegal alien is winning the Internet after unleashing h*ll on congressional Democrats during a powerful and emotional testimony today.

As Fox News reported, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing on sanctuary policies across the United States. One of the individuals who spoke during the hearing was Marcus Coleman.

Coleman’s then 5-year-old daughter, Dalilah, suffered severe injuries in 2024 after an illegal alien from India driving an 18-wheel tractor-trailer slammed into a vehicle she was riding in. Thanks to the illegal alien, Dalilah has a traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and a shattered childhood.

She is also permanently disabled.

The truck driver, Partap Singh, had obtained a commercial driver’s license in California. Singh was driving at an unsafe speed and failed to stop for traffic in a construction zone before the crash.

Singh illegally crossed the southern border in October 2022 and was released into the country by the Biden regime.

Coleman has had to quit his job as a truck driver and is now struggling to provide for his nine children. He knows exactly who to blame for all of this: the Democrats’ open borders policies and their practice of undeserved benefits for those who deliberately break our laws.

During his testimony, he made this crystal clear. Specifically, he pointed to their support for sanctuary cities, free health care, and driver’s licenses for illegals.

Coleman also emotionally shared his family’s struggle since the avoidable tragedy before making clear he had no interest in hearing any empty words from the Democrats.

“I reject your sympathy, to be honest with you,” he said. “There’s no way you guys are sorry.”

COLEMAN: This is the end result of sanctuary cities right here (pointing at his daughter). And this guy was just going to work?

You guys want to talk about illegal immigrants who are just driving to work to be part of a community? This is what happens.

I had to stop truck driving. I no longer make the money I used to make.

I’m now pinching pennies. I have nine kids, by the way, that I take care of. And I had to sit there and stretch that all because of this right here.

It’s not her fault. It’s this (room’s) fault right here.

There’s no way that anyone should fall victim to this.

If I moved into your house without your permission and I started sitting there derailing your guys’ household and taking from your guys’ monetary and your guys’ food and stuff like that, you guys would have me either kicked out, ask me to move out or have the police escort me out.

It’s the same thing in the United States. These people come here; we did not invite them.

My wife is a (legal) immigrant; she did everything she was supposed to do. I don’t understand why any of you think it’s okay for a guy to just jump a fence to be entitled to the exact same rights I have.

In any other country, if anyone ever tried to do that, they’d go to jail…You guys want to give them free health care, free driver’s licenses, and the right to vote.

They want to turn the United States into India, into Russia, into Ukraine.

When I tuck my daughter in at night, she’s not a Republican or a Democrat; she’s 7 years old.

I reject your sympathy, to be honest with you.

There’s no way you guys are sorry. Not one of you guys have ever called me, not one of you guys have ever reached out to me, not one of you guys have ever sat there and seen me in the hallways and said, hey, sorry about your daughter.

Americans responded to Coleman’s testimony with widespread approval and tears. Some even called on him to run for Congress in 2028.

Canada’s Tariff Retaliation: They Need Us More Than We Need Them

Although Canada is a close U.S. ally, it is one of the only countries engaged in a tit-for-tat trade war with the United States. Ironically, severing trade ties with the United States would amount to economic suicide.

 

Since returning to office, President Trump has imposed tariffs on dozens of countries, from close allies like the European Union and Japan to rivals like China, using both emergency economic powers and long-standing trade statutes. The stated goals range from demanding reductions in trade tariffs and restrictions imposed by trading partners to curbing fentanyl trafficking and illegal migration, correcting trade imbalances, forcing supply chains away from forced labor, breaking U.S. dependence on China, and reshoring manufacturing as a matter of national security.

Most of these countries did not retaliate, and several negotiated new trade terms that gave the United States a better deal. Mexico declined to retaliate, with roughly 85% of its exports shielded under the USMCA. The European Union, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom negotiated reduced rates rather than imposing counter-tariffs. India responded to its 50% tariff with domestic tax cuts, while Brazil, hit with a 25% Section 301 tariff, pursued World Trade Organization consultations and established a domestic credit line for affected firms.

According to PBS, “Canada and China are the only countries that have retaliated against Trump in his trade war.” Both have engaged in tariff-for-tariff conflict with the United States over the past year and a half.

China’s retaliation has been more aggressive, although Beijing has also proven more open to negotiation. After Washington raised tariffs on Chinese goods, Beijing responded with tariffs of 10% to 15% on U.S. agricultural products, including soybeans. In October 2025, China also announced sweeping export controls on rare earths, gallium, germanium, antimony, and graphite. The United States depends on these materials for chips, magnets, and batteries.

Trump responded by threatening an additional 100% tariff on Chinese goods. The standoff eased at the Trump-Xi summit, where China agreed to suspend its rare-earth controls for one year, resume large-scale soybean purchases, and remove the retaliatory tariffs it had imposed since March 2025. In exchange, the United States halved its fentanyl-related tariff and extended exclusions.

Chinese commentators have since warned that Beijing could revive both the soybean freeze and the rare-earth restrictions if new Section 301 investigations proceed. Therefore, the truce remains fragile rather than settled.

One might expect China, a U.S. rival, to escalate a trade war, but Canada is the United States’ closest ally. Yet long before the trade war began, Canada imposed tariffs on U.S. imports.

Dairy products, including milk, cheese, and butter, faced over-quota tariffs of roughly 200% to 300% once shipments exceeded the quota volumes negotiated under the USMCA. This structure dated back to NAFTA and was reaffirmed under the USMCA in 2020. Poultry and eggs, including chicken and turkey, were subject to the same tariff-rate-quota system, with similarly steep over-quota rates protecting Canada’s supply-management boards.

Clothing and apparel faced Canada’s baseline nondiscriminatory tariff, averaging around 18%. Cultural products were also taxed to protect Canadian content, with rates of up to about 18% on broadcasting and publishing and between 6% and 16% on foreign-produced films and recordings. Imported spirits carried a per-liter, excise-style tariff of roughly CAD $2.87 plus 2.5% of their value. Grain products also faced some tariffs, although the rates were generally lower than those imposed on dairy and poultry.

That changed in April 2025, when Washington imposed a 25% Section 232 tariff on all imported vehicles, including the non-U.S. content of Canadian-built cars. Canada responded with its own 25% tariff on U.S. vehicles.

The standoff escalated from there. After the United States imposed 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, Prime Minister Mark Carney suspended trade talks, recalled Canadian negotiators to Ottawa, and announced that Canada “will match the U.S.’ new tariffs dollar for dollar.” Those retaliatory measures take effect on September 8.

This is the clearest case of a G7 economy choosing confrontation over compromise with its largest trading partner, and the numbers suggest that Canada is the weaker party in that confrontation.

A good example of how much more dependent Canada is on the United States than vice versa is Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s repeated threat to weaponize electricity exports. Ford has vowed to cut power exports to New York, Michigan, and Minnesota, the states directly supplied by his province’s grid. He declared that he would do it “with a smile on my face” and that Ontario would not give Washington “a grain of sand.”

Ford briefly carried out part of the threat in March 2025 by imposing a 25% surcharge on electricity sold to those three states. He backed down after Trump threatened to double tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum in response. Ford renewed the threat in August 2026 as the current standoff escalated.

Ford’s threats are backed by nothing. Canadian electricity accounts for less than 1% of total U.S. electricity consumption nationally. The U.S. Energy Information Administration puts net dependence at roughly 0.2% of total U.S. consumption. According to Penn State energy professor Seth Blumsack, “U.S. electricity operators likely have enough short-term capacity to replace any Canadian power that is withheld or becomes too expensive to buy.”

The United States buys Canadian power because of its price, not because of scarcity. Ontario and Quebec have a surplus of low-cost hydroelectric and nuclear capacity, while parts of the U.S. Northeast have some of the highest power prices in the country. Consequently, it is often cheaper for border states to import Canadian electricity during peak summer and winter demand than to operate their most expensive backup plants. If that supply were cut off, those states would sometimes pay more per kilowatt-hour, but they would not go dark.

Canada, meanwhile, has nowhere else to send that power. Canada exports electricity exclusively to one market, the United States. Its transmission grid runs north to south into the United States rather than east to west between Canadian provinces, leaving no alternative buyer for the surplus power. Electricity exports were worth roughly $3.3 billion to Canada in 2025. Threatening to cut them off is a threat to forfeit that revenue outright, not a source of meaningful pressure on the U.S. electricity supply.

Canada holds the switch, but flipping it costs Canada money while costing the United States a rounding error.

Canada’s overall trade figures tell a similar story. Canada sent 68% of its merchandise exports to the United States in the first half of 2026, according to Statistics Canada data. That was down from 76% in 2024 but still represented an overwhelming share. Other full-year data put the figure as high as 73%.

Exports to the United States alone account for roughly 17% to 18% of Canada’s entire GDP, while total Canada-U.S. trade represents nearly one-third of Canada’s economy. By comparison, trade with Canada accounts for roughly 3% of U.S. GDP.

The United States sent only about 15.4% of its total exports to Canada in 2025, the lowest share on record for either Canada or Mexico as a leading U.S. export market. Canada also runs a trade surplus with the United States. In 2025, the United States imported $453.6 billion in goods from Canada while exporting $426.3 billion to it. Consequently, Canada has considerably more to lose in absolute terms from a breakdown in the relationship.

Foreign investment follows the same logic, and Canada’s own government says so openly. Ottawa’s pitch to foreign investors emphasizes what it calls preferential, “virtually tariff-free access” to the U.S. and Mexican markets under CUSMA. Together, those countries represent a market of more than $30 trillion in GDP, far larger than the Canadian market alone.

The United States is by far Canada’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), accounting for 46% of Canada’s total inbound FDI stock, worth $452 billion as of 2023. Much of the capital flowing into Canadian factories and supply chains is not chasing Canadian consumers. It is chasing tariff-free access to the American market through Canada. If a prolonged trade war undermines that access, Canada risks losing the advantage that made it attractive to investors in the first place.

The Bank of Canada has outlined how costly a prolonged confrontation could be. Under its severe-tariff scenario, the central bank projected that Canadian GDP could fall roughly 5% below a no-tariff baseline. Business investment could decline by nearly 12% by early 2026, while unemployment could rise as export-sensitive industries, including autos, lumber, steel, agriculture, and energy, shed jobs.

Canada avoided the worst of that outcome only because roughly 90% of its goods exports remain exempt under CUSMA. The Bank of Canada now assumes that U.S. tariffs are permanent rather than a temporary shock that can simply be waited out. Even so, the government’s spring 2026 economic update acknowledged that tariffs contributed to declines in Canadian goods exports, reduced business investment, and job losses concentrated in Ontario and Quebec. Meanwhile, nominal exports to the United States ended 2025 nearly 17% below their December 2024 level.

Carney’s dollar-for-dollar pledge escalates a fight in which Canada holds the weaker hand by every measure of dependency, including export concentration, the trade balance, and the relative size of the markets each country stands to lose.

China can exchange tariff threats with Washington because it controls chokepoints in rare earths and critical minerals that the United States cannot easily replace. Canada holds no comparable leverage over the U.S. economy. It mainly controls how much pain its own exporters, autoworkers, and mortgage holders will absorb as the standoff continues.

The US will help Europeans free themselves from the yoke of their Leftist-Globalist elites.

Euro-Globalists are in a panic over the news that the US Donald J. Trump’s administration will reportedly spend $4 million to bolster right-wing media in ‌Europe.

This is said to be part of a package of at least $25 million for civil society groups working on conservative causes in the region.

What these sons of George Soros do not seem to understand is that this is a core Trump policy: ‘Cultivating resistance to Europe’s current trajectory within European nations.’

2025 US National Security Strategy:

“American diplomacy should continue to stand up for genuine democracy, freedom of expression, and unapologetic celebrations of European nations’ individual character and history. America encourages its political allies in Europe to promote this revival of spirit, and the growing influence of patriotic European parties indeed gives cause for great optimism.

Our goal should be to help Europe correct its current trajectory. We will need a strong Europe to help us successfully compete, and to work in concert with us to prevent any adversary from dominating Europe.

America is, understandably, sentimentally attached to the European continent — and, of course, to Britain and Ireland. Reuters reported:

“The grants risk deepening tensions between the Trump administration and European governments, some of which have already accused Washington of interfering in their domestic politics.

The U.S. ​State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor (DRL) says the funding is meant to strengthen transatlantic ties and promote ​free speech. It comes as European countries prepare for elections over the next couple of years, and ⁠as the Trump administration openly backs Europe’s populist right-wing and far-right parties.”

The State Department officially notified Congress of the allocation of these funds in August.

“Three million dollars were earmarked for ​a program to ‘document and analyze democratic backsliding in Europe as it relates to mass and illegal migration, the independent media landscape, and legislative agendas by supranational entities’, according to the people.

Another $1 million aims to create a consortium of independent journalists covering issues including national sovereignty, natural rights, and religious freedom in Europe, ​they added.”

UPDATE: Jury in Lindsay Clancy Murder Trial DEADLOCKED – Unable to Come to Unanimous Decision – Dismissed for the Day WITHOUT VERDICT

Update: The jury asked the judge to go home for the day without a verdict and the judge said yes.

The jury in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial sent a note to the judge on Monday morning, on day four of deliberations, and revealed that they could not come to a unanimous decision.

The jury comprises 9 women and 3 men.

Lindsay Clancy strangled her three children to death in January 2023.

The young children, Cora (5), Callan (8 months), and Dawson (3), were found dead in the Clancy, Massachusetts, home’s basement.

The jury is considering five verdicts:

– Guilty of First-Degree Murder
– Guilty of Second-Degree Murder
– Guilty of Manslaughter
– Not Guilty
– Not Guilty due to Lack of Criminal Responsibility

Last Thursday, on day one of deliberations, the jury was sent home without a verdict.

On Friday, the jury requested to see the knife that Lindsay Clancy used to slit her wrists after she murdered her children. Along with the knife, the jurors also asked to see two bags of prescription bottles found in the Clancy home.

On Monday, the jurors once again went home without a verdict. It was reported on Monday that some of the female jurors wore pink, which was interpreted to be in solidarity with Lindsay Clancy.

On Tuesday, the judge told the jury to continue deliberations.
