A Missouri woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree “endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death” after she killed her infant daughter by putting her in the oven.

Prosecutors dropped a first-degree murder charge against the mother, Mariah K. Thomas, 28, as part of the deal.

Judge Sarah A. Castle sentenced the Kansas City woman to 13 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections with no probation.

The infant, Za’Riah Mae Thomas, was about eight weeks old when she was killed by the person she was dependent on for protection.

Kansas City police were called to a home on February 9, 2024, on a report that an infant could not breathe.

A relative who rushed home had said he smelled smoke and found the infant in her crib. He asked Thomas what happened. She told him she thought she had put the baby in the crib and had put her in the oven instead.

Officers found the baby unresponsive with burn injuries.

Firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene.

Thomas has been in the Jackson County jail since shortly after she was arrested.

The Daily Mail reported the killer mom will get time served for her pre-trial detention, so she is likely to serve approximately 11 more years.

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker said, “Our hearts are weighted by the loss of this precious life.”

Baker added, “We trust the criminal justice system to respond appropriately to these awful circumstances.”

Thomas was supposed to go to trial on the murder charge in October.

The Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s Latino Caucus was fired today after news broke that he is a convicted child sex offender.

Diego Rodriguez was previously convicted of using the dating app Grindr to have sex with teenage boys while working as a church youth leader.

Rodriquez was fired after Heartland Post minutes after exposed his criminal record.

According to Heartland Post, Diego A. Rodriguez was convicted of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime after he tried to meet up with an undercover officer posing as a teenage boy on the gay dating app Grindr. Rodriguez was working as a youth leader at a church in Racine at the time.

Rep. Pracilla Prado fired Rodriguez this afternoon.

JL Online reported that Prado fired the convicted child sex offender after news broke on Heartland Post.

She had no idea he was a perp.

Prado, a Democrat who represents Assembly District 9, which includes a portion of Milwaukee’s south side, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in an email that she fired Diego Rodriguez on Sept. 21, the same day Hispanic News Network first published a story Sept. 21 about Rodriguez’s criminal history and his political involvement.

“A recent article highlighted the problematic background of a member of my campaign,” Prado said in a Sept. 22 statement. “The conduct of this individual is completely unacceptable and once this information came to light, I made the immediate decision to terminate him from my campaign.”

Rep. Prado is a member of the Wisconsin legislature.

The Justice Department on Tuesday announced a postal worker was indicted for discarding more than 300 mail-in ballots in a dumpster.

A grand jury indicted 34-year-old Damon Matai Seei on September 16 on one count of Unlawful Secretion, Destruction, and Delay of Mail.

Seei was arraigned at a federal courthouse in Utah on Tuesday afternoon.

“[On] June 3, 2026, SEEI threw away some of the mail, which he had been entrusted to deliver, into a dumpster in a church parking lot. He later admitted in an interview that he threw away the mail because he wanted to “lighten his workload” so he could presumably go home earlier,” the Justice Department’s detention memo read.

“When American voters lawfully cast their vote, they should feel confident that it is counted,” said Acting Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter.

He continued, “Allegedly throwing away hundreds of ballots is a serious federal crime that undermines the integrity of our elections. Ballot integrity is not a partisan issue.”

“When the defendant allegedly threw away the mail he was entrusted to deliver, he also threw away the chance for those citizens to exercise their right to vote,” said U.S. Attorney Melissa Holyoak for the District of Utah.

“Our office, along with our law enforcement partners, takes these offenses seriously and will continue to investigate them to ensure justice is served for anyone whose constitutional right to vote has been infringed,” she said.

Melissa Holyoak said an investigation began after voters reported not receiving their ballots and officials identified unusually low voter participation.

Seei told investigators that he did not have a political motive.

The border came to the yacht club this past week.

Surveillance video from Saturday afternoon near Cypress Street in Newport Beach, California, shows a panga fishing boat easing into harbor. It then shows at least a dozen people climb off one by one and walk into the neighborhood. The empty boat was left behind after scratching and denting a nearby yacht. Local Fox affiliate KTTV aired the video.

Law enforcement is reviewing the situation and the Coast Guard is believed to have the vessel. So far, no public word of arrests has been made.

City Council member Erik Weigand called the incident, a bunch of guys off a boat slamming into the neighborhood trying to get away fast, unsafe.

A local resident said she loves immigrants and is a granddaughter of one and that people should come the right way. “We have a right to know who’s here.”

This is not the first panga full of illegals to arrive in Newport Harbor. Two years ago, more than 20 people walked off a boat and into vans. The Coast Guard later intercepted a load that included passengers from Uzbekistan and Russia.

Maritime landings off Southern California have been a running story for years. Martha’s Vineyard learned the same lesson the hard way: It’s all about compassion until the bus stops on your street.

Through the 1990s, 2000s, and into the 2010s, both parties said this sort of immigration was bad.

Bill Clinton talked about controlling the border. Barack Obama was known by immigration advocates as the “deporter-in-chief.” Secure the border line, allow only legal immigration, and no silent dumps of migrants into a suburb. That was not a fringe position. It was the norm.

Then President Donald Trump said the same thing out loud, and half the political class decided the old consensus was suddenly immoral. Some of that was raw politics, but it was also more bodies and more districts for Democrats, and therefore more power.

Trump agreed with what they used to believe. So they disagreed with themselves and called the old immigration norm “hate.”

Open-borders views then became fashionable. Sanctuary cities followed. The constant landings of illegals onto American soil followed that in turn. Newport Beach is what that looks like when the panga does not hit a ranch in Texas or the farm land of Alabama. Instead it hits a dock next to a yacht and the passengers melt between the houses.

Should a coastal city this rich still pretend the border is someone else’s problem?

Watch the video. A quiet boat. A scramble off the gunwale. A party that voted for the policy and just met the product.

A country that cannot say who comes in cannot protect what it already has jobs, hospitals, schools, or the people who followed the law. Secure borders are not a mood. They are how a nation stays a nation.

Preventing this used to be boring, bipartisan common sense. It has now became a loyalty test. The test is now docking in Orange County. Fix the law, secure the borders of our nation or get used to the wake.

While the world is reeling from the wars in the Middle East and in Ukraine, the Korean Peninsula is turning into an even bigger powder keg.

With ‘Rocket Man’ Kim Jong Un’s regime developing massive missile capabilities, including nuclear weapons, the region is turning into a potential hot-spot for trouble.

Today (22), it arises that North Korean state media is alleging that its latest missile tests on Sunday involved a new weapons system of ‘great significance’.

Photographic evidence suggests that Pyongyang launched a missile described as hypersonic, reported to have been the Hwasong-11E-1 hypersonic SRBM (short-range ballistic missile).

“North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said the weapon’s development would strengthen the country’s war readiness and give its enemies an ‘incurable headache’, the North’s official Korean Central News Agency said. He did not describe what the weapon was.

Kim observed Sunday’s tests with his teenage daughter, widely seen as a potential successor.”

“The launches extended a recent run in military displays, including live-fire exercises and the commissioning of a new warship, as Kim continues to flaunt his growing nuclear program despite U.S. calls to revive diplomacy.

Following years of intensified testing, Kim now has an extensive arsenal of nuclear-capable missiles, including long-range weapons potentially capable of reaching the U.S. mainland and shorter-range systems designed to overwhelm missile defenses in South Korea and Japan.”

“Hypersonic vehicles travel at least five times faster than the speed of sound and are highly maneuverable. They are therefore much harder to track and intercept than ballistic missiles, which, though very fast, follow predictable trajectories.

The United States and a number of other countries have been developing hypersonic weapon systems for a number of years now, so it’s no big surprise that North Korea is working on one as well.

[…] [North Korean state media] said that Kim described the system as a type of ‘ultra-modern defense technology’ that ‘would give the enemy an incurable headache and a very cruel and unavoidable blow’, according to the South Korean news agency Yonhap.”
