Australia’s populist One Nation has claimed a major electoral breakthrough in Western Australia, capturing the state seat of Secret Harbor and dealing a major defeat to leftist Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his governing Labor Party.

One Nation candidate Luke Herdegen secured approximately 57 percent of the two-party-preferred vote against Labor’s Georgia Tree.

The result marks an important breakthrough for Pauline Hanson’s party, demonstrating its growing national support.

The by-election was triggered by the midterm retirement of senior Labor Minister Paul Papalia.

One Nation’s Western Australian leader, Rod Caddies, declared victory on Saturday evening, predicting the result would send “shock waves across the entire country.”

“There are no safe Labor seats in this state or in this country any more,” Caddies said.

Hanson similarly hailed the result as evidence that her party is becoming a serious electoral force capable of challenging Australia’s two major parties.

“The result in Secret Harbour should be a warning to Labor, we’re coming for more of your seats,” she wrote on X.

“Australians are choosing One Nation as a serious alternative to the tired old uni-party who have destroyed our nations economic prowess.”

One Nation has taken a seat where the Liberals have never been able to challenge Labor.

Former Nationals leader and current One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce said the victory demonstrated that the party’s strong polling numbers were translating into actual votes.

“Politics has changed,” Joyce said, arguing that One Nation was increasingly attracting former Labor supporters.

One Nation campaigns on lower immigration, tougher law and order, Australian economic nationalism, opposition to net-zero policies, and resistance to progressive policies on race and gender.

The result was also a bruising one for the establishment Liberal Party, which finished a distant third with just 17 percent of the primary vote.

Liberal frontbencher Jonno Duniam conceded the party had suffered a bad result.

“That is not a good outcome for my party, and it’s one that we need to look hard at and rectify,” Duniam said.

The result gives One Nation a notable foothold in Western Australia and bolsters its hopes of taking further seats in the future.

A real American mother just showed the country what actual love looks like.

Bonnie Pierce, 38, a St. Paul, Minnesota mother of four, died Monday after she ran back into her burning duplex to save her toddler daughter.

Firefighters found the unresponsive mom shielding little Grace with her own body. Pierce had already made it outside. She went back in anyway.

That is motherhood.

That is courage.

That is love in its purest and most sacrificial form.

According to local reports, St. Paul firefighters were called to a duplex fire in the 700 block of Magnolia Avenue East at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Pierce was home with two of her daughters. One girl, Aurora, kicked out an air-conditioning unit and climbed to safety. Pierce got out too. Then she realized Grace was still inside.

She ran back into the flames.

St. Paul firefighters pulled both of them out. Pierce had been without oxygen for about 15 minutes and suffered burns over 48 percent of her body.

“When firefighters entered the home, they found Bonnie shielding Grace with her own body,” the family’s GoFundMe states. “Bonnie was protecting her daughter until the very end, making the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to save her child.”

Bonnie never regained consciousness and died two days later. Grace survived and is expected to recover. Family members say she remains hospitalized but is improving.

Her sister Jenny McGovern put it simply at a press conference: “She died a hero and that’s what she’ll always be.”

“She died a hero and that’s what she’ll always be,” her sister, Jenny McGovern, said at a news conference Saturday at St. Paul Fire Department headquarters, according to the Twin Cities. “She’s the kind of woman who would give you the shirt off her back and run back into a burning fire to save her daughter.”

Bonnie’s mother, Terri Pierce, stood there grieving the child she raised and the grandchildren now without their mom.

“I want my baby back,” she said. “I miss her immensely. I’m trying to stay strong for my granddaughters.”

Neighbors have covered the home in flowers and chalk. They wrote one word over and over: HERO.

The heartbreaking story comes as a jury in Massachusetts weighs the fate of Lindsay Clancy, the former labor-and-delivery nurse who admits she strangled her three children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, just 8 months old, with exercise bands in the basement of their Duxbury home in January 2023.

That is the opposite of Bonnie Pierce.

One mother ran into fire. The other sent her husband away so she could murder her kids in the basement.

One mother used her body as a shield. The other used resistance bands as a noose.

One mother’s last act was protection. The other’s last act before jumping was filicide.

At least 20 hikers are missing after a flash flood ripped through the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

More than 60 people were evacuated from the Grand Canyon as heavy rains moved through the region.

Dozens of people had to be airlifted amid the sudden flash flooding.

“Monsoonal moisture will produce showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain over parts of the Southwest, Great Basin, and Central Rockies through Monday. Flash flooding is possible, especially in and around burn scars and in areas of steep terrain,” the National Weather Service said.

The National Park Service is asking the public to provide information for more than 20 individuals who may be missing or unaccounted for following a significant flash-flood event in Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area on August 29.

Grand Canyon National Park staff, in coordination with the Arizona Department of Public Safety, are continuing evacuation and response efforts and working to account for individuals who may have been in the affected area.

The National Park Service is asking anyone who knows of hikers or backpackers who were in the inner canyon along the Bright Angel Creek corridor on August 29, as well as anyone who had a campground reservation in the affected corridor, to provide information to the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB). This includes individuals who may have been traveling along the North Kaibab Trail from the North Kaibab Trailhead to Phantom Ranch, staying at Bright Angel Campground, or traveling or staying in the area known as “the Box” north of Phantom Ranch.

Nearly 10,000 public health complaints have exposed stomach-churning allegations involving street food vendors across Los Angeles County.

The complaints include dogs eating meat intended for customers, rodents running alongside food, and people urinating near cooking equipment.

The California Post, which obtained the records through a public records request, reported that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health received 9,746 complaints involving street vendors between 2023 and early 2026.

The allegations fill a staggering 662 pages.

One complaint concerning a taco stand near Hawthorne Boulevard alleged that workers lacked somewhere to wash their hands and failed to change their gloves.

“There was also a dog eating meat from the bag, and the guy still continued to serve the meat from that bag,” the complainant wrote.

The case was subsequently listed as “closed.”

Another complaint near Los Angeles International Airport described mice running near open containers of salsa and condiments positioned alongside garbage cans.

At Venice Beach, meanwhile, someone reported hot dogs, buns, and condiments being left “heating in the sun all day long.”

Other allegations included cockroaches emerging from a food truck, unrefrigerated raw meat sitting in the heat and people urinating around food preparation equipment.

The revelations come as far-left Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has ordered the LAPD to stop issuing criminal citations against street vendors, including those operating without required permits.

Bass said her administration “stands firmly with street vendors” and is also seeking the dismissal of criminal citations she believes were improperly issued.

Many of the vendors and staff are illegal aliens, protected from deportation by the city’s “sanctuary city” policies.

Los Angeles Business Federation CEO Stuart Waldman said the scale of the complaints was “worse than I thought.”

“It’s crazy to think that a brick-and-mortar restaurant can be shut down if the employees don’t wash their hands,” Waldman said, while street vendors may operate without bathrooms or refrigeration.

Los Angeles County says it has shifted its enforcement strategy away from individual unpermitted sidewalk vendors and toward larger organizations believed to control multiple operations.

An estimated 50,000 street vendors operate throughout Los Angeles, yet just 687 active vending permits were recorded as of September 2024. Only 53 were food-vending permits.

Business owners have also complained that unlicensed vendors can sell directly outside established restaurants and stores without shouldering the same rent, regulatory, and operating costs.
