North Dakota Mother Accused of Slitting Throats of Her Three Children After Telling Father, “Say Goodbye to Your Kids”

A 22-year-old Mandan, North Dakota mother is behind bars after police say she used a kitchen knife to cut the throats of her three young children on August 6. Two are dead. One survived. She told their father to “say goodbye to your kids” on video while holding a pistol at her hip.
Kailey Renae Erhart, 22, faces two counts of murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, terrorizing, and domestic violence. Bond was set at $3 million cash. A judge cited the “extreme violence” and threat to the community, according to Law and Crime.
Her five-month-old and three-year-old children died from their injuries. Her one-year-old son survived after undergoing extensive surgery and is expected to make a full physical recovery.
The case bears chilling similarities to the nationally watched Lindsay Clancy case, though authorities have presented no evidence that Erhart copied or was inspired by Clancy.
According to a police affidavit obtained by Valley News Live, officers were dispatched to a home on South Frontier Trail after receiving a report that a mother had stabbed her children.
When officers entered the blood-soaked home, they reportedly discovered Erhart holding a kitchen knife against her own throat.
Erhart, who was allegedly covered in blood, dropped the weapon and told police officers to kill her.
Officers followed a trail of blood into a bedroom, where they found all three children lying motionless on a bed with horrific injuries concentrated around their necks.
The five-month-old was pronounced dead at St. Alexius Medical Center that evening. The three-year-old died at Sanford Health early the following morning.
The one-year-old miraculously survived.
The child’s family later announced that his surgery was successful and doctors expected him to make a full physical recovery.
“Last night, he finally smiled at us, and it was the most beautiful thing we’ve ever seen,” the family wrote in an update reported by Gray News.
But the allegations describing what occurred before the children were attacked are even more disturbing.
Investigators reportedly recovered a video from the father’s phone showing Erhart carrying one of the children while holding a pistol against her hip.
“Say goodbye to your kids,” Erhart allegedly told the father.
The father reportedly wrestled the gun away from Erhart, disassembled it and scattered its pieces around the home.
Erhart then allegedly obtained a kitchen knife, chased the children’s father and grandmother out of the residence and locked herself inside with the three helpless children.
Mandan Police Chief Jason Ziegler described the crime scene as something “nobody should ever have to see.”
But here is where this horrifying criminal case becomes a potential government accountability scandal.
According to the affidavit, the children’s father had previously reported to mental-health services that Erhart threatened to kill herself and the children.
Erhart had also reportedly been committed to a mental-health facility sometime during the previous 12 to 18 months. She was placed on medication and allegedly cleared to remain around the children.
If those allegations are accurate, the public deserves answers immediately.
Who knew that Erhart allegedly threatened to harm these children? When were officials notified? What risk assessment was performed? Who determined that it was safe for three defenseless children—including a five-month-old infant—to remain in the home?
These children did not need bureaucratic excuses. They needed adults in positions of authority to protect them.
Erhart now faces nine charges: two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, three counts of aggravated assault and one misdemeanor count of domestic violence.
District Judge Marina Spahr set Erhart’s bond at $3 million cash, citing “the extreme violence in these alleged charges and the threat to the community, victims and children,” according to KFYR.
Erhart has not entered a plea and is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty.
The North Dakota bloodbath comes as a jury considers the fate of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother who admitted strangling her three children, Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and Callan, eight months,with exercise bands in January 2023.
Clancy’s attorneys argue that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and therefore should not be held criminally responsible. Prosecutors contend she deliberately sent her husband on errands before carrying out the killings.
As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, hundreds of women gathered outside the courthouse to support Clancy, turning the admitted killer into the center of a sympathy campaign while her three dead children were pushed into the background.
Gateway Pundit contributor Grant Stinchfield also warned that the Left had transformed Clancy into a martyr while seemingly forgetting the murdered children.
