President Trump participated in a Freedom 250 Grand Prix showcase as the Trump Administration prepares to hold the first-ever IndyCar race on the National Mall next month.
The President previously signed an executive order titled “Celebrating American Greatness with American Motor Racing,” directing preparations to be made for the race on August 22 and 23.
“I’m thrilled to be here with some of the most extraordinary figures in the history of motorsports, and any sport, if you think about it, as we count down to the Freedom250 Grand Prix, this will be like no other race ever,” Trump said.
IndyCar drivers Álex Palou, Felix Rosenqvist and David Malukus joined President Trump at the White House for the event.
The race car drivers gifted a “President Trump” helmet for the upcoming Freedom 250 Grand Prix.
President Trump was also joined by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
“I’m proud to preview the Freedom 250 Grand Prix with President Trump today,” Duffy said.
“Thank you, President Trump, for always going big for the American people — bringing raw horsepower and free tickets straight to the heart of the capital,” he added.
As the event concluded, President Trump watched an IndyCar crew conduct a lightning-fast pit stop.
The racing team changed four tires and refueled the race car in approximately 6 seconds.
President Trump was impressed with the crew.
