The Senate GOP on Thursday delayed the reconciliation vote to fund ICE and Border Patrol – and Senate Majority Leader John Thune admitted it is a political hit against President Trump.

The Senators will be on recess until June.

Last week, the Senate Parliamentarian struck down three key provisions of the Senate’s reconciliation bill

The House of Representatives previously passed the Senate-approved package to fund the Department of Homeland Security by voice vote, ending the 75-day shutdown.

ICE and Border Patrol were to be funded separately through a reconciliation package.

Senate Republicans put together a $72 billion reconciliation package to fund ICE and Border Patrol – however, GOP Senators had to go back to Elizabeth MacDonough, the Obama-era Senate Parliamentarian with new language.

The new reconciliation package stalled after lawmakers brought up concerns over funding for Secret Service.

The Republican Senators delayed the reconciliation vote because of the DOJ weaponization fund.

McConnell lashed out at Trump and Blanche and said, “So the nation’s top law enforcement official is asking for a slush fund to pay people who assault cops? Utterly stupid, morally wrong – Take your pick.”

“Senate Republicans said they will not be voting on a reconciliation package to fund the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration agencies on Thursday, delaying consideration of the measure in the face of opposition to the Justice Department’s new “anti-weaponization” fund and security funding tied to the White House ballroom,” CBS News reported.

“Senate Republicans’ $72 billion package hit a snag when members in both chambers began voicing concerns about the inclusion of $1 billion in Secret Service security funding, including for the president’s East Wing Modernization Project that features plans for a massive ballroom. Senators told reporters earlier in the week that they expected the Secret Service funding to be stripped from the broader package,” the outlet reported.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune admitted that Thursday’s decision to delay the reconciliation vote is also a political hit against President Trump.

Thune told reporters that Senate Republicans are responding to Trump’s snubs and endorsements.

“It’s hard to divorce anything that happens here from what’s happening in political atmosphere around us,” Thune said, according to Punchbowl News. “You can’t disconnect those things.”

Incoming Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh will be sworn in at the White House on Friday to replace Jerome Powell, whose second term expired last week.

Trump has repeatedly clashed with Powell over his refusal to cut interest rates, and he has said he would be disappointed if Warsh does not cut rates immediately upon taking over at the Fed.

Various reports suggest that this will be one of the challenges Warsh faces upon being sworn in.

Per the Hill:

Kevin Warsh will face a political and economic obstacle course upon taking the helm of the Federal Reserve later this week.

Warsh is set to be sworn in by President Trump on Friday as the next chair of the Fed board, taking over the central bank at a pivotal time for the U.S. economy.

After years raging against outgoing Fed Chair Jerome Powell, Trump made clear before Warsh’s nomination that he would only consider candidates he could trust to cut interest rates.

Spiking inflation and divides among Fed officials, however, could make it impossible for Warsh to appease the president while fulfilling his duties as Fed chair.

Other obstacles speculated to play a role in Warsh’s tenure include the Iran war, tariffs, a divide among Fed officials, and legal battles, most notably over Trump’s firing of Fed Governor Lisa Cook.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, the Senate voted 54-45 to confirm Warsh last week after the Justice Department last month dropped its criminal investigation into Fed Chairman Jerome Powell, which RINOs made a key issue in Warsh’s confirmation.

And what’s more, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the Russian military is preparing an ‘appropriate’ response to Ukraine’s alleged use of the Baltic territory to launch drone strikes.

Moscow Times reported:

“This problem exists, and our relevant services, primarily the military in this case, are closely monitoring the situation and formulating our country’s necessary response,” Peskov told the pro-Kremlin tabloid Izvestia, though he did not specify the scope of the measures.”

This worrying warning comes a day after Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) threatened Latvia.

The spy service stated Latvia’s NATO membership will not shield it from retaliation.

“Latvia’s foreign minister accused the SVR of running a disinformation campaign amid an internal political crisis triggered by Ukrainian drones straying into Latvian airspace and crashing.

U.S. Deputy Representative to the UN Tammy Bruce said that ‘there is no place for threats’ against Latvia, assuring member states that Washington ‘keeps all of its NATO commitments’.”
